After publishing 171 chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gege Akutami had one more surprise for fans: an epilogue featuring short stories about various characters, offering insights into their lives after the main plot's events. Perhaps the most talked-about among them is Yuta Okkotsu, who is the acting head of the Gojo Clan and the appearance of his grandchildren. This started the spark of intense fan speculation. Jujustu Kaisen suggested, without explicitly confirming, that Yuta married Maki.

The epilogue in Jujutsu Kaisen starts with two children playing inside a storage unit filled with relics from the past. The room is the Gojo clan's facility room, so we know that the clan is still active. Among various items in there, we see Panda’s cursed corpse, which has been out of commission for a long time.

We also have information that this scene takes place 62 years after the Shinjuku Showdown Arc in Jujutsu Kaisen, and the year is 2080. Gege Akutami leaps forward in the timeline to reveal that Yuta Okkotsu is still alive without actually getting him onscreen.

Rather, we see two children, one boy and a girl. The girl resembles Yuta in facial structure and expression. She wears his ring around her neck, the same one previously used by Yuta to summon Rika. The boy strongly resembles Maki Zenin, to the point that many fans immediately saw a similarity to Megumi Fushiguro as well.

This means that Maki could be their grandmother, implying that the Zenin clan genes are strong. As we also know, the Zenin clan has strong facial structure and physical characteristics. Logically, it makes sense to connect the dots and helps us conclude that Maki marries Yuta and has children. These two grandchildren are the result of that lineage. Their grandchild also said something, which later helped Panda drop an important hint.

“These are Grandpa’s treasures. It is supposed to be a special cursed corpse.”

Because we see this story from the lens of Panda, none of the said characters made any appearance. Panda himself was inactive for a long time before he sprang up to interact briefly with the children. His words are playful but carry meaning that carries the biggest hint:

“Are you really Yuta’s children? This kid has a bad personality!”

This one line was enough to confirm one parent's identity by referring to them as Yuta’s descendants and teasing them in a familiar, almost nostalgic way. The fact that Panda was preserved by Yuta also teases about the fact that Maki might be involved because the relationship they had during Jujutsu High was not forgotten.

Another thing we know is that Yuta Okkotsu has taken over the Gojo clan in Jujutsu Kaisen and is now their acting head. This particular hint also means a new hierarchical system in Jujutsu World. Also, now that the clan has the bloodlines of both the Zenin and Gojo families, the next generation would be on a different level.

The author deliberately did not show any details because he wanted to maintain some mystery while keeping things open-ended for readers. According to fans, Maki and Yuta made sense as a deeply compatible couple in Jujutsu Kaisen. Their time fighting together in the Culling Game arc deepened their bond. They shared goals, supported each other, and, more importantly, grew alongside one another.

What does this mean for Rika in Jujutsu Kaisen?

For the longest time, fans saw Rika as a direct romantic interest for Yuta. But it was not possible because she was a cursed spirit and Yuta was still alive. Rika has been part of his direct development as a socerros and was given importance for this as she was also subtly mentioned in his epilogue. The granddaughter is seen wearing the ring that once bound Rika to Yuta.

It again hints to the possibility that she has now become the protector of their lineage. It also closes the arc of Rika’s role in Yuta’s life. While she may not be physically present as a cursed spirit anymore, her essence — and the symbol of her bond with Yuta — now shields the next generation in Jujutsu Kaisen.
