Among the many complex yet poignant moments in Hunter x Hunter, Kite’s reincarnation stands near the top. As a mentor to Gon, Kite’s fate was the major driving factor of Gon’s mental turmoil during the Chimera Ant Arc. While his eventual tragic ending came as a shock to both the protagonist and fans, the series indicated that he had been reincarnated later.
This was a confusing sequence of events that left many viewers confused. Togashi is yet to give a concrete answer on Kite’s rebirth, but hints across Hunter x Hunter and countless theories point to the fact that Kite’s unique Nen ability, Crazy Slots, was responsible for his return.
As the disciple of Ging and the man who saved Gon Freecss as a child, Kite reunited with the protagonist at the start of the Chimera Ant Arc. Together, they explored NGL and soon got caught up in the Chimera Ant invasion. While Kite put up a valiant fight against many of the creatures, he was eventually overpowered by Pitou.

After ensuring Gon and Killua had retreated, this seasoned Hunter was killed and beheaded by the ant. However, Gon did not realize Kite was dead, particularly since Pitou had reanimated him to use him as a dummy. Due to this, the protagonist went to great lengths and sacrificed his morality for the sake of making Pitou heal Kite again.
However, in one of the most memorable scenes in the series, the Chimera Ant expressed how Kite was already dead, pushing Gon to use Limitation Transformation and brutally kill them. While many believed this was the tragic ending to Kite’s life, Hunter x Hunter delivered an exciting twist.
Alongside Meruem, another child was born to the Ant Queen at the end of her life, remaining undetected by the other Chimera Ants. Colt eventually discovered and raised this child. The truly surprising reveal came when the child identified themselves as Kite and possessed all of the late Hunter’s memories.

They were mature beyond their years and spoke to Gon as if they had always shared a bond. No direct explanation was given for this phenomenon, but hints were provided. Ging Freecss, Kite’s mentor and one of the smartest individuals in the series, hypothesized that Kite’s reincarnation was tied to his Crazy Slots ability.
This is a Conjuration skill that summons a Nen beast resembling a clown. When activated, the beast would work like a slot machine and give a number from 1 to 9, where each number had an associated weapon. However, there were only a total of three numbers revealed throughout Hunter x Hunter.
The first was number 2, which conjured a large scythe. Number 4 created a carbine which could shoot powerful bullets. Finally, right before facing Pitou, Kite got Number 3. This seemed to be a normal stick, but its true function was never revealed.
How Crazy Slots reincarnated Kite in Hunter x Hunter
Given the mystery surrounding the final weapon Kite used against Pitou, most fans believe that it was the cause behind his reincarnation. When Gon met Ging during the 13th Hunter Chairman Election Arc, the Hunter told his son that Kite’s Crazy Slots had a skill that activated when he did not wish to die.
Hence, if he was alive, that was the likely reason. Therefore, most sources suggest that Kite’s reincarnation is tied to his Crazy Slots Nen ability. Some believe that Kite may have been fed to the Ant Queen and his soul transferred over to the newly born Chimera Ant. However, since Pitou considered him to be a special opponent and never turned him in, this theory is less convincing.
Additionally, it has not been confirmed that Number 3 in the Crazy Slots is what caused Kite to reincarnate. While it is highly likely, since the weapon generated did not seem intimidating enough to face Pitou, there is also a chance that it was another number Kite got before his off-screen death against Pitou.
