Chainsaw Man features a variety of creative devils, each of whose existence depends on the fear they inspire in humanity. Part 2 of the manga, titled the Academy Saga, has continued this trend and introduced fascinating characters such as the War Devil, the Falling Devil, and the Aging Devil.
However, the Famine Devil is one notable entity who was foreshadowed in the very first part by Makima and has been the biggest point of mystery in the series. Her eventual reveal in the manga ended up being a major twist that has fans buzzing to this day. As the name indicates, the Famine Devil is a member of the Four Horsemen who represents humanity’s fears of starvation and famines.
While readers believed that she was introduced earlier in Chainsaw Man Part 2, this was false. Rather, the person known as “Fami,” who was on screen most of the time, was the Death Devil. She had borrowed her sister’s identity to carry out her goals secretly. However, this was unveiled when the real Famine Devil finally appeared in the current arc of the manga.

Making her first appearance in chapter 195 of the Chainsaw Man manga, the Famine Devil appeared as a new High School student, though her true identity hadn't been revealed yet. Soon after, she told her classmates that she had arrived to save them. Through dialogues like this, Fujimoto led fans to assume that this new character was the Death Devil. However, it was a fake-out.
The real Famine Devil is a very shy and meek girl with low self-confidence. She is quick to cry and stutters while speaking. At the same time, the Famine Devil has a hilarious sense of superiority, refusing to take out the trash when her classmates asked her to. She believes her powers make her more important than others, but still wishes to protect humans. Her main goal is to stop the Death Devil from destroying humanity.
Her personality and actions are completely different from her sisters, Control, War, and Death, all of whom make up the Four Horsemen. The Famine Devil is also very naive and believes others at face value. When her annoyed classmates asked her to go outside and crush ants, she immediately obeyed them.

Famine pities people and believes the only true way they can be saved is through death. She shared her ideology with a boy from her class who felt bad for her, right before attempting to kill him. However, her objective was momentarily stopped by Fakesaw Man, who fought Famine while also believing her to be the Death Devil.
Through their comedic confrontation, the Famine Devil showed her formidable abilities. Famine’s primary skill is her ability to absorb the life of others. When she was struggling to face Fake Saw Man, she drained her classmate to instantly heal herself. Even when she was cut up into many pieces, she could stay alive and talk through her decapitated head.
However, it is hard to see her as intimidating since she has a false sense of confidence in her combat abilities. When Famine began her fight against Fakesaw Man, she was eager to show off her martial arts skills. Unfortunately, this left little damage on her opponent, who remarked on how weak she was.
Only after being brutally beaten down by Fakesaw Man and accused of being the Death Devil did she finally confirm her identity as the Famine Devil. At this point, “Fami”, who fans had thought of as the Famine Devil, appeared and established that she was the fearsome Death Devil. This huge Chainsaw Man twist dropped the jaws of readers who couldn’t believe that the main antagonist was living in plain sight all along.
The Famine Devil’s fate in Chainsaw Man
Soon after the Death Devil appeared, she restrained Fakesaw Man and the Famine Devil using the Falling Devil’s powers. She then cleared up the confusion about her identity and consumed both of them using her crows.

After this, Famine and Fakesaw Man were released from her mouth, seemingly retaining their sanity. However, the Death Devil then commanded them to plunge mankind into an abyss of terror. They were left with no choice but to obey her as the Famine Devil kept shouting out “Salvation”.
Hence, right after appearing in Chainsaw Man, the Famine Devil’s identity was mistaken, she was defeated by Fakesaw Man, and fell under the control of the Death Devil. She is currently serving the very person she wished to stop in the first place.
