The Naruto and Boruto universe has no shortage of smart individuals, ranging from the noble Itachi Uchiha to the villainous Orochimaru. Even among these prominent figures, Amado Sanzu stands out for his intellect, captivating fans with his ambiguous role.
Initially introduced as an antagonist, Amado was the head researcher of Kara, Jigen’s secretive organization aiming to carry out the Otsutsuki will. He helped develop scientific ninja tools, analyzed the great Shibai Otsutsuki’s DNA, and created cyborgs whose powers exceeded Jigen’s.
However, his true intentions were always a mystery. Amado had created Kawaki as the perfect vessel for Isshiki Otsutsuki but ended up betraying his benefactor and defecting to Konoha. Only upon changing sides and being questioned by Konohamaru and others were his incredibly complex role and motivations in Boruto revealed.
Amado Sanzu - The Enigmatic Genius
Amado is a highly practical and insightful genius possessing unparalleled knowledge about the Otsutsuki lineage. He is blunt, composed and always in control of the situation. Amado’s cleverness is not restricted to merely technological development but people as well. He can accurately predict future events through the steps taken by his peers and their personalities.
This was seen immediately after he moved to Konoha and predicted that they would try taking him prisoner. To avoid this, Amado placed a fake bomb on Shikamaru’s son and led the high-ranking official to believe he could kill him if desired. This allowed him to talk with Naruto and Shikamaru, explain his position, and receive asylum.
Amado Sanzu may have been a part of Kara, but his goals never aligned with Jigen’s. Rather, he was merely using the organization as a means to an end. His goals were not based on betrayal but rather desperate hope. In the past, Amado had lost his daughter Akebi to a disease without being able to cure her. He wasn’t dispirited as he believed he could clone her into a new body and imprint her memories.

This became Delta, one of Amado’s inventions. Unfortunately, despite their similar appearances, Delta was noticeably different from Amado’s daughter. At this juncture, he was approached by Jigen, the vessel of Isshiki Otsutsuki. Promising to bring Amado’s daughter back with his celestial powers, Jigen hired the scientist as a researcher and developer at Kara.
However, Amado was far from subservient. He realized how Isshiki’s plan would destroy the world and his dream would be left unfulfilled. Therefore, he came up with a grand scheme meant to fulfill his wishes and stop the antagonist. Amado created Kashin Koji, Jiraiya’s clone, to work from within Kara to bring down Isshiki. Concurrently, he assisted Kawaki in escaping to Konoha and joining Naruto’s family. Soon after, he moved to Konoha himself and contributed invaluably.
Amado’s Influential Role in Boruto
It is no overstatement to say that Amado is one of the most important figures in Boruto. He is trusted by neither ally nor enemy but remains unwaveringly dedicated to his goals. Following Jigen’s fight against Naruto and Sasuke, Amado’s clone Kashin Koji attacked the leader of Kara. Despite failing to kill him, his efforts helped destroy Jigen’s vessel and forcibly resurrect Isshiki Otsutsuki.

As a result, Kawaki’s Karma disappeared, and Isshiki was killable. Amado continued giving invaluable resources and information, fixing Kawaki’s arm and strategically working to kill Isshiki. This paid off as Isshiki died after battling Naruto’s Baryon Mode and pushed the Otsutsuki will onto Code - a failed Otsutsuki vessel made by Jigen and Amado.
His role merely began there, as this genius became deeply involved in the lives of both the protagonists and the antagonists. He helped Boruto control Momoshiki through medicinal pills and caused Kawaki to control his Karma powers without Isshiki’s influence. At this point, Amado’s true wishes were revealed.
Given his failure with Delta, Amado aimed to resurrect his daughter by embedding her data into Kawaki’s Karma. The deuteragonist could then place his seal on a clone to bring back Akebi. Although the results were uncertain, it was Amado’s only solution.
Unfortunately, he hasn’t had the chance to do this yet. This is mainly because of Kawaki’s rebellious personality and Code’s new Kara. The introduction of Eida and Daemon, monstrous beings created by Amado with Shibai Otsutsuki’s DNA, went on to bite the scientist's back.

With Eida’s omnipotent powers rewriting everyone’s memories, Amado and the rest of Konoha swapped Boruto and Kawaki’s positions in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex. This led to yet another unbelievable display of Amado’s intellect, as he was the only individual who came to realize the swap had occurred between the main characters solely based on evidence.
To conclude, Amado is a morally grey character who has captivated fans through his nonchalant personality and brainpower. He cannot be categorized as a hero or a villain, as he is solely driven by his own motivations. Since he requires Kawaki’s Karma to bring back his daughter, he is currently allied with Konoha. Given the chaotic turn of events in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, there is little doubt that his intriguing persona will continue stealing the spotlight.
