The Naruto sequel, Boruto, has managed to stand out from its predecessor with a unique storyline that follows the complex journey of Boruto Uzumaki. Due to his turbulent life, the protagonist and his allies face a variety of powerful antagonists seeking to destroy the world. The first part of Boruto revolved around the main characters’ struggles against Kara, an organization created by Isshiki Otsutsuki, with the aim of cultivating the God Tree.

After this celestial being was defeated by Baryon Mode Naruto, most fans were expecting the next primary villain to be Code. However, following the timeskip in the story, new and extremely dangerous foes were revealed. These are the Human God Trees, sentient beings created from Code’s Claw Grimes, serving as the main antagonists in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.

Also known as Shinju, the creation and existence of this race are among the most unique in the Naruto universe. Given the difficulties faced by Code in achieving his objective, he used his Claw Marks to split the Ten-Tails up into an army of Claw Grimes. Unbeknownst to him, however, the remainder of the Ten-Tails evolved into a self-aware humanoid God Tree known as Jura.

When a Claw Grime consumes a normal person, the victim transforms into a small tree with their unconscious original body protruding from it. Consequently, a new Human God Tree is born, carrying the chakra signature of the individual who was consumed. These beings resemble their original forms and possess motivations rooted in an exaggerated version of their counterparts’ personalities.

Despite this, the Human God Trees see themselves as separate beings. They cannot be strictly classified as evil since they are a newly created race filled with curiosity and seeking to build knowledge. They mainly follow their instincts and are unrestrained in pursuing what they believe to be right. As a result, the Human God Trees often end up causing rampant destruction when chasing their goals.

Having been created by the Ten-Tails, these beings are intimidating and can easily overpower Code himself. They possess the Rinnegan, can perform the Tailed Beast Ball, and are capable of using Wood Release. At the same time, each Human God Tree can use the special jutsu of the main body they are connected. These are much more potent renditions and can cause large-scale destruction if desired.

Currently, no Human God Tree has permanently died in the series. Yet, it has been revealed that upon defeating one of them, their core, the Thorn Soul Bulb, remains. These Thorn Soul Bulbs can be used to resurrect Human God Trees if they are retrieved. Boruto also believes they are the key to reviving the original body that has been affected by the Claw Grimes.

Every Known Human God Tree in Boruto

The Human God Trees revealed in Boruto so far include:

  • Jura - The leader of the Human God Trees, who is the only one not created because the Claw Grimes consumed an individual.
  • Hidari - A sentient being created based on Sasuke. His target is Sarada Uchiha.
  • Matsuri - A Human God Tree made from the template of Moegi. She is attracted to and targets Konohamaru.
  • Mamushi - A member of this race made due to Bug being consumed. He targets Eida and is capable of seeing through her Senrigan.
  • Ryu - The newest Human God Tree made from Shinki. His motivations are directed towards his main body’s adoptive father, Gaara.

To conclude, the Human God Trees are among the most fascinating and powerful protagonists in the Naruto and Boruto universe. They do not have any particular ambition but are driven by instinctual desires connected to the main bodies they were created in. Their ambiguity is what makes them so fearsome, and there is little hope for the main cast in a direct confrontation.
