Boruto follows the tumultuous life of Naruto’s son, Boruto Uzumaki, as he aims to live up to his father’s legacy. While initially dealing with the protagonist’s complex home life, the series soon introduces dangerous antagonists such as the Otsutsuki Clan and the Human God Trees.
As a result, several cast members, especially those carrying over from Naruto, face immense danger. For those who are not caught up with the manga, a natural question that arises due to this is whether the deuteragonist, Sasuke Uchiha, is dead. No, Sasuke is not dead in Boruto, but he is currently incapacitated.
Sasuke’s confusing yet tragic fate is revealed in Two Blue Vortex. To completely understand it, however, it is important to trace the events from before the timeskip. In the original Boruto manga, Sasuke was the Shadow Hokage and the teacher of Boruto Uzumaki, working stealthily to protect Konoha along with Naruto.

Due to this, he toyed with death several times, suffering brutal beatdowns at the hands of the Otsutsukis and even losing his Rinnegan to his own disciple. Nevertheless, the formal deuteragonist was always able to survive with his immense powers and the help of his allies. Unfortunately, when faced with an ability beyond all understanding, Sasuke was left without an answer.
This refers to Eida’s Omnipotence skill, which rewrote the history of the entire world and made Boruto and Kawaki switch places. Triggered due to Kawaki’s intense desire to protect Naruto, it made him seem like the Hokage’s son, while the protagonist was labeled his own father’s killer. At this point, all of Konoha aimed to apprehend the alleged murderer.
However, Sarada was one of the few who were left unaffected by Eida’s power. Confused about what to do, she pleaded with her father, Sasuke, to protect Boruto. Though Sasuke had his memories rewritten, he trusted his daughter and helped Boruto defect from Konoha while becoming a traitor himself. In addition, Sasuke also had doubts of his own since he could sense Momoshiki inside Boruto, while his altered memories indicated that he would be in Kawaki.
Hence, going with the judgment of his daughter, the Shadow Hokage set out with his disciple and trained him during the timeskip leading up to Two Blue Vortex. He imparted every technique he knew to Boruto while praising his talent. Unfortunately, disaster soon struck.
The Claw Grimes, created by Code splitting the Ten-Tails, confronted Sasuke and Boruto when they were in hiding. While Sasuke could injure Code’s eye, they were fighting an uphill battle. To ensure the protagonist remained safe, he jumped into the thick of the fight on his own.
At the end of the chaos, Boruto found that his master had been turned into a tree, hinting he had been bitten by a Claw Grime. He currently remains in this state, where he is unconscious but not dead.

Can Sasuke Be Revived in Boruto?
While Sasuke is not dead, his revival is a whole other question. Currently, there have been no successful cases where victims of Claw Grimes have been brought back to their original forms. The Human God Tree, Hidari, also exists because of Sasuke’s condition and shares his chakra.
However, according to Kashin Koji, there is a way to undo a victim’s condition. The core of a Human God Tree is called the Thorn Soul Bulb, and as long as it exists, the antagonists can be revived innumerable times.
Concurrently, should the Thorn Soul Bulb be used on the tree surrounding the original body, it may revive the person. Based on this hypothesis, Boruto attempted to take Hidari’s Thorn Soul Bulb to save his master. Regretfully, he couldn’t achieve this due to Jura’s interference.
Sasuke is not dead in Boruto, but he cannot be perfectly described as alive either. Having fallen prey to the Claw Grimes, he is currently a tree whose chakra is being used by the Human God Tree Hidari. Boruto Uzumaki is desperately working towards reviving his master and protecting Konoha from the new and dangerous group of antagonists.
