In Naruto and Boruto, Sasuke Uchiha is one of the strongest Uchiha who possesses great power and the Rinnegan. Yes, he does indeed lose his Rinnegan. Boruto (under Momoshiki's control) stabs Sasuke in the eye during a fight.

During the fight with Madara, Sasuke manages to reach Hagoromo and have a telepathic conversation after being stabbed in the chest and on the verge of death. Hagoromo Otsutsuki (widely referred to as the Sage of Six Paths) infused the eye into him. With Naruto, he was able to defeat one of the greatest beings the Naruto world has ever seen.

And ever since he awakened this eye during the Fourth Great Ninja War, it has become one of his most lethal weapons. With his Rinnegan, he was able to use strong techniques such as space-time ninjutsu and Amenotejkikara (his teleportation move). He also had the ability to sense chakra across dimensions.

Sasuke used the Rinnegan to perform strong techniques that most ninjas couldn't defend against. He was able to instantly switch places with others or objects, move between different dimensions, absorb chakra-based attacks, and do even more things. In the Boruto era, he frequently used these powers to explore the increasing menace of the Otsutsuki Clan. In many ways, Sasuke was a hidden weapon the Hidden Leaf could bring out when needed. He protected the Hidden Leaf secretly, and his Rinnegan made it easier.

As Isshiki’s time was running out, he attacked Konoha to take Kawaki and use him as his new vessel. He and Naruto didn’t only fight Isshiki this time — they had fought him multiple times in the series and lost. During their clash, Sasuke frequently used his Rinnegan to assist Naruto in dodging fatal attacks from Isshiki Otsutsuki. Naruto and Sasuke were strong, but Isshiki always won their fights.

To defeat him, Boruto, Sasuke, and Naruto teleported to another dimension for what turned out to be their last showdown with Isshiki. Even with all their hard work, Isshiki was still too powerful for them. At this moment, Naruto activated Baryon Mode, making a final attempt to defeat Isshiki. Once they took down Isshiki, Momoshiki, who had been “sleeping” inside Boruto, chose to show himself.

The answer to whether Sasuke loses his Rinnegan comes during this intense period in the story. After Isshiki is defeated, there is a brief moment of calm. However, the scenario quickly becomes gloomy. Boruto attacks Sasuke because Momoshiki has taken control of him. Momoshiki stabs Sasuke’s eye with a kunai and destroys the Rinnegan.

This moment shocked fans all over the world. It wasn't just the loss of arguably the most powerful eye in the Naruto franchise. It symbolized a giant shift in the balance of power. The strength of the good guys in Boruto had reduced. Sasuke, who had relied on the Rinnegan for so long, was now forced to fight without one of his biggest advantages. The number of things he was capable of in combat dropped significantly. His fighting style and tactics all had to be changed as a result. The attack also showed how serious the existence of Momoshiki was. How much more can he influence Boruto’s actions if left unchecked?

But like a true shinobi, after losing the Rinnegan, Sasuke doesn't give up. Instead, he adjusts to his new reality and continues to fight alongside Naruto and the others. But it’s clear that this loss weakens him. He can no longer teleport, jump between dimensions, or use other high-level Rinnegan abilities. In battles now, Sasuke mostly uses his Sharingan, sword, and experience.

Will Sasuke Get His Rinnegan Back in Boruto ?

Right now, in the Boruto manga and anime, Sasuke still hasn’t gotten his Rinnegan back. He is currently trapped in a tree following a battle with Code. And fans have come up with many theories on how he could potentially get it back. Some include getting it from a claw grime or taking cells from Naruto. But there is no confirmation of that happening yet. He is currently trapped in a tree following a battle with Code, where he was eaten by one of Code’s claw grimes. A Human God Tree version of him called Hidari roams the lands.

Conclusion

Yes, Sasuke loses his Rinnegan in Boruto, and it is a surprising moment. It’s not just that he’s losing one of his devastating powers; he’s going to need to change his style as a fighter. The world is changing, new threats are emerging, and even iconic powerhouses like Sasuke are not invincible. His bravery and experience still make him a key character. Even without his Rinnegan, Sasuke is still easily one of the strongest and most respected ninjas in the Boruto world.
