Bleach is a series full of powerful Soul Reapers, Hollows, and ancient spiritual realms. Only a few characters have managed to command fear, but none of them are as close as Sosuke Aizen. Sosuke Aizen is the primary antagonist of the first part of the series. Initially introduced as a soft-spoken character, his transformation into a villain shocked fans and reshaped the entire narrative of Bleach.

Initially, Aizen comes off as an ideal leader as he was the former Captain of the 5th Division in the Gotei 13. Before he showed his true colors, he was gentle and was respected by everyone in Soul Society. His Vice-Captain, Momo Hinamori, held him in the highest regard and almost idolized him.

However, this version of him was just an act, as the persona was crafted solely to make viewers and other characters believe that Aizen was one of the few trustworthy individuals in Soul Society. He successfully managed to conceal his true ambition and power till the time was right.

When he was in Soul Society as the lieutenant of the 5th Division under Captain Shinji Hirako, Aizen conducted illegal experiments in secret. His goal was to merge Hollow and Soul Reaper powers. It was ultimately completed by Urahara. It did not take long for Shinji to start suspecting Aizen and started keeping an eye on him.

But Aizen was a step ahead and used Kyoka Suigetsu’s complete hypnosis to mislead everyone, including his captain. After being successful with his experiment, he turned Shinji and others into Visoreds and conveniently blamed Urahara, which led to his exiling from Soul Society and Aizen's walking free.

This act was the first step of his plan to take over the Soul Society. Soon, he was even promoted to become the Captain of the 5th Division. After this, he took the time to build a reputation as a kind person and kept earning admiration from many. However, Aizen kept on continuing his experiments in secret.

As he planned to overthrow the Soul King, he needed trustworthy allies to help him gather intel and help with the rebellion. He ultimately found two Soul Reapers who were ambitious and powerful. Gin Ichimaru and Kaname Tosen worked closely with Aizen as they became his trusted allies and supported the idea of taking over the Soul Society.

For his schemes to work, he planned to fake his death and manipulate everyone with Kyoka Suigetsu into believing that the corpse he planted was indeed of Aizen. Amid the chaos of others trying to understand this situation, Aizen stole the Hogyoku from Rukia's body.

When his betrayal came to light, he did not think twice about stabbing Hinamori, who still believed in him. Eventually, he managed to escape after defeating several captains of Gotei 13 and escaped to Hueco Mundo with Gin and Tosen.

After reaching Hueco Mundo, he started building his army of Arrancar and Espada by transforming Hollows with the Hogyoku’s power. He led an all-out war against the Soul Society as the final step of his plan. He easily overwhelmed several captains, including Komamura, Hitsugaya, and even Shinji Hirako, who returned as a Visored.

Aizen’s hubris was his overconfidence, which Ichigo managed to shatter because, after training in the Dangai, he achieved a new form that surpassed even Aizen’s evolving power. After Ichigo overpowered him in a battle to the point where Aizen was no longer in a position to fight. Urahara took over and activated a sealing kido spell, and finally, he was imprisoned.

He was sentenced to 20,000 years in Muken, the deepest level of the Soul Society’s prison, although the sentence was later reduced to 1,000 years after he helped in defeating Yhwach, the Quincy King, during the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc in Bleach.

After being imprisoned and sentenced to the deepest level of Soul Society's prison in Bleach, Aizen makes a comeback during the Thousand-Year Blood War Arc. He was given a chance to regain his freedom for a limited time if he chose to help the Soul Society fight against the antagonist of the arc, Yhwach - the Quincy king.

Aizen was a trump card for the Soul Society as they faced annihilation by Yhwach. Reluctant about the offer, Aizen eventually helped them by using his illusion to disorient Yhwach at a crucial moment. It helped Ichigo create an opening to attack the villain and finally emerge victorious. Even if his role was limited, it was very important for the Soul Society to reclaim their victory and shift the fate of the world.

Currently, Aizen is still in prison in Bleach but with much fewer restrictions and is kept alive as the Soul Society acknowledges him to be their greatest asset in times of need.

To conclude, Sosuke Aizen from Bleach is a character who challenges the higher authority and dares to defy the divine. Aizen remains one of the most compelling and complex antagonists in anime. Whether the viewers saw him as an antagonist or a fallen angel, one thing is clear: Aizen changed Bleach forever.
