AMC alum Michael B. Jordan overseeing Netflix family superhero series

All My Children's Michael B. Jordan has been tapped to executive produce a Netflix series about a young African American boy with super powers.

Netflix has given the go-ahead to an African American superhero family drama that will be executive produced by All My Children alum Michael B. Jordan (ex-Reggie Montgomery).

The series, Raising Dion, is a ten-episode straight-to-series drama, that revolves around a black mother who discovers her young son has multiple and constantly changing abilities.

Raising Dion is based on the short film of the same name created by Dennis Liu. Liu will direct the series, and industry vet Carol Barbee, who wrote the Netflix adaptation, will also serve as an executive producer along with Jordan, Charles D. King, Kim Roth, and Poppy Hanks.

"We haven't seen this type of superhero story before - an origin myth full of imagination, wonder and adventure, all grounded in the experiences of a modern single mother. Michael B. Jordan is an exciting and dynamic talent, and I'm excited to see him, Carol, and the team translate Dennis' unique vision to television," said Cindy Holland, VP of Originals at Netflix.

"I started this project many years ago because I wanted to see more diverse representation on film and television and I'm excited to partner with Netflix, who I know shares that commitment," Liu told the Hollywood Reporter. "More than ever, we need more stories told from different points of view and my hope with Raising Dion is to create a cinematic experience for all families that will lift your spirits and make you laugh and cry."

In addition to serving as executive producer, Jordan will also appear in the series in a supporting capacity. While casting for the series started way back in February, to date, Jordan is the only one attached to the project.
