Nick & Sharon's:

Sharon wakes Victoria who was sleeping on the couch. Sharon didn't sleep well after her ordeal with Matt Clark but can't bring her self to talk about it. The most frightening part was when she looked into his eyes and realized who he really was. Nikki and Victor arrive. No news on Matt Clark yet. Sharon can't believe he has gotten away again. She is thankful that at least Nick will be returning home. They aren't so sure as there isn't enough evidence linking Matt to Nick's arrest. Sharon cries that it isn't fair. Cassie wakes and is overjoyed to see her mom. She asks about the bruise on her face and Sharon covers. Noah too is happy to see her. Vic reports that the cops have found a car in the ravine. The 2 occupants have been rushed to the hospital but have not been ID'ed. Vic will head over and report back to Sharon. Cassie prays for Nick's safe return.

Nick calls out for the guard who has nothing new to tell Nick about what his parents are up to or how his wife is doing. later Nick is going stir crazy to Warton's annoyance. Nick wants to know how long Larry has known that Matt was gunning after Sharon. Later Victor arrives and tells Nick that Sharon is all right and that Nick is free on bail. Matt hasn't confessed yet and isn't expected to live. Nick must get the truth from him before it's too late. Warton wonders if Nick has already forgotten how Larry helped him. Nick tells him he has something else to do first.

Raul's parents have also returned. Mac and Rianna wonder if Billy and Raul will finally become friends again. J.T. sarcastically tells Mac to call him as she's dying to tell him and he would be love to hear it from her.

He figures that she spoke with J.T. She tells Billy to cut J.T. some slack after what Mac is putting him through. He can't believe she still thinks there's something going on between Mac and J.T. Brittany keeps hinting at Mac either having sex with J.T. or will soon be. She tells him J.T. hasn't said anything, which only proves to her that he is having sex with her since he'd have no reason to brag. She tells him to just keep his eyes open where J.T. and Mac are concerned.

John and Jack talk about Raul's improving condition. They wonder about the Summer campaign. Jack needs to head out but John asks about where Jack stayed the night. There's a knock on the door and it's Phyllis who has brought all of her belongings. She's moving in!

The DA reports that the fingerprint match they did on Carter Mills matches Matt Clark who is in critical condition. Vic want sot know why they haven't freed Nick. The DA doesn't see how Matt ties into Nick's case which enrages Victor. He fills in the DA that Matt has been working at CL for almost a year which gave him access to set up Nick. The DA will speak with both Larry Warton and Matt if he recovers but there is still no evidence connecting him with the drug set up.

Williams Investigations:

Ashley told Brad that her baby was growing up -- she had been losing weight and should start taking a bottle instead of breast-feeding. She was sad about this and they discussed possibly having another baby.

Mackenzie chatted with Billy in the coffee house without him knowing that it was her right across the table. CleanQueen encouraged Billy to talk to Mac about his concerns. Before they finished the conversation, Brittany noticed what was going on while looking over Mackenzie's shoulder. Billy almost starting talking to Mac, but Brittany insisted that they speak out on the patio. She hinted that she knew what he was planning, and admitted that she was watching him chat online. He became angry at her snooping, then she dropped the bombshell -- CleanQueen had been in the room and it was Mackenzie. . . .

Paul told his mother about his call from Chris. She was supportive of him and didn't nag like usual. She didn't even mention her meeting with Ms. Brana -- when he brought it up, she said that she trusted him and invited them all to dinner sometime.

Christine and Michael talked about the case going into June and her week off in May. He offered to come and help anytime and she confided in him about her problems with Paul. She even asked him for advice, of which he had none to give. He didn't tell her that he was planning the Fiji trip, but he told his secretary to pay for it in full. The prospect of a week in Fiji with Chris was very appealing to him at that point. . . .

Later at school, Rianna and Mackenzie talked about going to visit Raul after school and about the relationships among their group of friends. Mac told her that she was suspicious of Brittany and that she had a feeling that Billy didn't believe that she had been honest about her relationship with J.T. Rianna kept trying to get information out of her about what the real issues were, but Mackenzie just said that it was time to be honest with Billy about everything -- that it does no one any good to keep secrets.

Victor made sure that Nicholas could handle talking to Matt Clark without losing control in the hospital room. The D.A. allowed him to go in with a recording device hidden inside his shirt. He also insisted on a guard, under Matt's disapproval.

While waiting for Nicholas to come out, Sharon became lightheaded and dizzy. She sat down and the doctor looked her over. He told Victor to take her outside for fresh air and make sure that she had something to eat. She insisted on waiting for Nicholas to come out before she went anywhere.

The first thing that Matt did was tell Nick to take off his shirt. Nick disposed of the wire per Matt's request. Matt wouldn't reveal any of his methods or admit to anything, even though he was about to die and breathing through a ventilator tube. He wanted to talk about Sharon. He said that she was even better the second time, telling Nicholas that he had taught her well. Nick thought that he meant in the cabin, and knew that there had been no rape there. Matt made it clear that it had been another time, with the Mexican food and margaritas at their home. Nick still didn't believe him and refused to play his games. Nick demanded that he stop his games because they had all been for nothing, Matt was dying and Nicholas was free. He told him that he had won and Matt has lost. Finally, Matt began gasping for air and Nick sent the guard for help. He asked Matt what he could do for him, and came close to his bedside. Matt grabbed the ventilator tubes from his own throat and put them into Nick's hand. His final words were, "No, I Won!" and the heart monitor went flat. Nicholas stood there with the tubes in his hand as the guard returned to the room. . . . .

Friday, May 11, 2001

The ventilator drops from Nick's hand as the guard pulls him from Matt Clark. The doctors and nurses rush in and try to save him to no avail. Matt Clark is dead.

The DA asks the guard what happened and he tells him that he saw Nick holding Matt's breathing tube in his hand. Sharon and Victor can't believe it. Victor tries to tell the DA that Nick would not have done that but the guard tells it differently. Nick wanted to throttle Matt at one point and then was later found holding the breathing tube. When asked by Victor why he left the room the guard tells him that Matt was having trouble breathing and that Nick was the one who asked him to leave. Victor presses for more details but the guard's story doesn't waver. He theorizes that the tube came out accidentally and Nick was trying to reinsert it but Dr. Walker can't speculate. The DA reminds Victor how on the edge and angry Nick was just prior. The DA refuses to pin everything on Matt just because he's a bad person. The evidence points to Nick in both Matt's death and the drugs and what a nice scapegoat Matt makes to the Newman family. Victor tells the DA point blank that he doesn't like him. The DA asks for Nick but he's disappeared. Victor's sure he's on his way home but the DA warns that if Nick has fled there will be Hell to pay.

This surprises both Ryan and Victoria who tell her she can't trust Jack. Phyllis can keep her personal and professional lives separate and if Victoria's has a problem with it she can fire her.

She's even going to trim her Men's line budget as per Ashley's suggestion. When she asks when Jack will be coming in John hesitates which only worries Jill. Jack arrives and tells Jill he was delayed helping Phyllis move in. Jill is flabbergasted. Jack asks to see her ideas and is impressed by her streamlining her own budget. She can't keep quiet for long though and asks how could he do this. It's his family home. Jack changes the subject to Sean and promises to end any relationship between them if she interferes with him and Phyllis. Jill looks forward to seeing Ashley's reaction. Phyllis overhears Jill badmouthing her and steps up to the plate.

Walnut Grove:
Rianna and Mac talk about Mac's growing closeness with Billy. She wants to tell Billy the truth. Rianna warns her not to ever let her guard down where Brittany is concerned. Mac isn't worried about Brittany with the ammo she has on her. She can't explain now but will once Billy knows everything. Just then Billy shows up. Before she can admit to it Billy asks her if she really is CleanQueen. She admits it and he's crushed. She tells him how it all happened starting with Esther and the Winter campaign. He can't believe she would do that to him. She tries to apologize and focus on the positives but he can't get over her lies. She leaves and Brittany swoops in to 'comfort' Billy. Mac tells Rianna how it all blew up in her face. She doesn't understand how Billy found out. Rianna offers to tell Billy how Mac was planning on telling him the truth. Brittany wastes no time painting Mac as the villain and asks what they chatted about. she gets annoyed when Billy won't talk about it with her.

Katherine stops by to see Nikki wondering how she's doing. Much better now that Nicholas is out on bail. Soon the nightmare will be out of their lives. Kay can't believe that it was Matt Clark behind the whole scheme. Victor then calls asking if Nick and Sharon are there. Nikki is surprised Nick hasn't rushed home to see the kids. Kay theorizes that they are alone together for some private time. Nikki agrees that they are probably blissfully together.

Hospital Chapel:
Sharon pleads to Nick to leave the country. Take the car and head to Canada. They will meet him there later. Does she think he killed Matt Clark, he asks. Matt deserved she tells him. But he swears that he kept his cool and tells her how Matt did it to himself. Sharon can't believe Matt could do it but Nick knows that Matt hated him so much and knew he was dying so he had nothing to lose. If Sharon could think that it was true then the police must surely think it too. They wonder how they can exonerate him. Sharon thinks the only solution is to run.
