The Newmans
Victor spends some time brooding over the trouble Diane has caused him and his family, including the new baby. He summons the family to his office.

Nick and Victoria discuss Nick's shock at seeing Sharon so drunk with Carter. Victoria reminds him of how great Sharon is and suggests he cut her some slack for being human. Nick runs into Sharon in his dad's office and tells her that he forgives her for last night and is sorry he overreacted. (He also joked that he hopes next time she wants to get wild she does it with him!)

Nikki runs into Katherine at Gina's. Katherine asks her help in planning Mac's birthday party. Kay is worried about Mac being so tightlipped about the problems in her life, but Nikki reminds her that teenagers are like that. Nikki relates her recent conversation with Victor and asks Kay if she thinks he could have meant their decision no to have another child. Victor calls and Nikki leaves for Newman Enterprises. Victoria and Nikki arrive and the family speculates on whether the news about the baby will be good or bad.

Mac
Mac tries to persuade Brittany to stop Billy from going to the rave and the two girls argue. J.T. overhears their fight and lets a passing Raul know that they are fighting over Billy. The argument gets so heated that Brittany shoves Mac and tells her to get some self-respect because no one is interested in what she has to say. After Brittany storms off, Raul approaches Mac to get the story. He is upset to learn that Mac would get so upset over Billy. Raul reminds Mac that there is nothing they can do about Billy and tells her that she is not his guardian angel.

Nina and Tomas
Nina runs into Jill and mentions that Phillip may need a place to stay for a while as she and Tomas pound out her screenplay. Jill congratulates her on her success and loves the idea of Phillip staying with her for a few weeks. Back at home, Tomas still has writer's block and is frustrated to the point of wallowing in self-pity. Tomas lashes out at Nina for "dumping" Phillip on Jill just so she can work on her screenplay. Nina tells him to relax. He says he can't believe who he has become. Things start to smooth out between the two until Nina asks him to read her ideas for the scene they were working on. When Tomas gets ruffled, Nina calms him down by explaining that it was he who inspired her and that they are collaborating as a team.

Tidbits

· Diane runs into Phyllis at Michael's office. They bicker and the pot calls the kettle black many times. Things escalate into threats and nasty words.
· Malcolm buys Alex a coffee and offers to help her straighten things out with his brother even though they are not currently getting along. He also offers and confidential "ear" to what he sees as a driven woman who needs to win.
· Ashley invites Neil to bring Olivia over for dinner. He doesn't give her a firm answer, but when Alex interrupts their conversation, Ash can tell that the woman is under his skin.
· Tomas continues to lambaste a stunned Nina, but eventually reveals that he is afraid if he goes to L.A. he will lose what little self-confidence he has rebuilt. Nina agrees to go alone. When Nina asks if he will be around when she gets back, Tomas evades the question by saying "where else would I be?"

Nina stops by his office to update Paul on her trip to L.A. and to ask for his help with Phillip while she's gone. He reveals that he knows about Tomas and is caught off guard when she reveals that Chris wanted to get pregnant while working in Hong Kong. Nina then pays Tomas a visit and as he talks about the great times they've shared together, she spots his suitcase and realizes that he's leaving town and leaving her. Alex apologizes to Neil for being so pushy and states that this case is too important for any bickering to get in the way. The two jump into their work together but when Neil later asks why she apologized, she finally confesses that she talked with Malcolm. Neil's furious that she did so and lets her know it. When a weary Michael returns from court, he finds an angry Phyllis waiting to complain about Diane's treatment of her. She apologizes for her comments earlier about him and Chris and then asks him to take her out to dinner, hinting that she's going back to her old resolution of playing the field. Victor proudly announces to his family that the paternity test shows that Diane's baby is not a Newman. After they leave, Victor thanks Nikki for her support. Nick decides to make plans for a vacation for him and Sharon.

At Carter's apartment he is planning on making the sale of 'X' at inventory tonight. He places the 'X' in a bag of coffee with plastic gloves. Tricia calls him and asks him to go out to dinner. He tells her he has to work, and no one can cover his shift. She asks him if he's found a new job. He tells her no luck but that he's ready to leave and start a life with her. After she hangs up, Ryan comes in. She wonders why he didn't call and let her know that he was coming over so that she could make plans not to be there. He tells her that he's there because she worried him the last time he saw her. She tells him that she is getting better and is moving on, starting fresh in a new place. He asks her if she thinks it's the right thing. She says she has to leave. He asks if she'll be back soon. She tells him that it doesn't matter because he won't be there anyway. After she leaves, Ryan makes a call to Tricia's doctor and leaves a message saying that he needs to talk about his wife. Meanwhile, at Crimson Lights, Nick tells Cody that he's switching inventory to the next night. He asks Cody to keep Sharon occupied because he has a surprise planned for her. Cody agrees, and Nick leaves. Later, Carter comes in just as Sharon and Cody are standing at the bar. Sharon says she needs to talk to him. She apologizes for getting drunk. Carter says that he shouldn't have let her take the second drink and that Nick must be upset with him. She tells him that Nick is actually upset with her. Carter then has a flashback to Sharon lying on the sofa. Sharon asks if she "did anything" last night. Carter tells her that she has nothing to worry about, then he says he has to go. She goes over to Cody and tells him that she's leaving and asks if he's noticed "that look" in Carter's eyes. Cody says no. Sharon leaves and looks at Carter just as he looks at her out of the corner of his eyes. "It won't be long, now, Sharon."

In Victor's office, Victor and Nikki are still discussing the news of the paternity test coming back negative. Nikki tries to reinforce the "guardian angel" theory. After saying that he's in no rush to tell Diane but that he'll tell her that night, Victor tells Nikki that he thought she'd be more curious. She says she doesn't care how it happened. It's just a blessing. Connie calls in and tells Victor that Justin Johns of Robertson Lab is there. Victor asks Nikki to stay, as she might be interested in what he has to say. Johns thinks he's answering question about the problem of Victor's sperm traveling, but Victor tells him of the birth of Diane's baby and the results of the paternity test. John's asks if Victor is sure, and Victor tells him that he had the test done twice. He asks Johns if perhaps there was a switch before the sample made it's way back to the lab or somewhere in the lab. Johns says there was a DNA test done and the only switch could've been in the delivery of the sperm to Diane's clinic. John's doesn't really have an answer and leaves. Nikki invites Victor to the ranch for a celebratory dinner, but he still has to tell Diane. He tells Nikki that he's still amazed at how curious she isn't. She says she's just counting their blessings and is happy she can still amaze him. She leaves and pauses outside of his door with a smirk on her face.

Nina is upset that Tomas was going to leave her without telling her. He tells her that their relationship is no longer healthy. She says that their problems don't apply to their personal lives and they can work through them. They love each other. She says she won't go to L.A. if it'll break them up. He says this is the chance of a lifetime and couldn't live with himself if she didn't go. She reminds him of a remark he made about them being together forever. He says that perhaps their paths may cross again. He doesn't promise her that he'll be there when she returns. Knowing that she's succeeded will make him very happy. She realizes she can't change his mind and gives up. She gets her coat and walks out. She breaks into tears in the hallway just as Tomas does. She gathers herself and then walks out.

Paul has a flashback to Nina telling him that Chris was gonna talk to him about getting pregnant while in Hong Kong. He says something to himself about why she didn't say anything to him. Just then, Jill appears in the doorway and asked if she can join in his conversation. She tells him that she doesn't think it's a good idea that Philip stay with him for part of the time while Nina is gone. He says that those weren't his plans and that spending time with Philip will be good for both her and Philip. She says that her time with Philip is like getting a second chance especially since she's made mistakes with her own son. He tells her that Philip'll get better food with her since Christine is away in Hong Kong on a case. She says that's a true test of their commitment to marriage and tells Paul not to pass on the opportunity to have a baby. She thanks him and leaves. Paul looks at a picture of Chris and sighs.

Jack goes to Ashley's office where Abby lay asleep in her playpen. He picks her up and takes stuffed animals out of a bag that he brought for her. He tells Ashley about the "amazing night" he had at Nikki's. She tells him that not only is he a good uncle but that he'd make a good father, too. Jack says women aren't lining up to be the mother of his child. Ashley tells him that she'll take care of that by setting him up with someone she knows. Jack tells her that he's seeing someone, and Ashley hopes it's not Phyllis. Jack tells her that this "relationship" is rewarding in another way and that he can't afford to see anyone else while he is seeing her. Meanwhile, at The Lodge, Michael declines Phyllis' offer of desert and a dance. He says that something must be going wrong for her to be out with him. She tells Michael that Jack is resisting because of her recent employment at Brash and Sassy Michael suggests ending it with Jack and becoming involved with him no strings attached. Phyllis says only under the condition that she knows it's really Christine that he wants. Michael says she just had to say that. Phyllis' cell phone rings, and it's Jack. He asks her to dinner but she tells him she's already eaten. Then he asks her to come over to his place to talk, as soon as she can. She hangs up and prepares to leave. Michael says he's changed his mind about the desert.

John Silva told Victor about his legal options with Diane.

Brad was surprised to learn Victor isn't the father of Diane's child. He was sure that the news should bode well for Nikki's future with Victor.

Sharon returned home and was surprised to see that Nick had divided up the living room in to four themed sections, each displaying an option for a romantic getaway.

Diane told Michael that she plans to threaten to leave town to maintain her connection to Victor.

Tricia feared that she needs to leave Genoa City before things take a bad turn.

Victoria admitted to Ryan that she overstepped by contacting Keith. Ryan worried about Tricia's strange behavior after he learned that she had cut off his communication with her therapist.

At the coffeehouse, Matt placed the planted drugs and gave Jordan instructions on how to make the deal. Matt freaked out when Cody said that Nick postponed the inventory.

Phyllis was thrown when Jack suggested they break up. They both played a masquerade, until their chemistry prevailed and they were in each other's arms.

Diane's confidence turned to utter disbelief when Victor handed over the results of the paternity test, which show he's not the father of her child.
