The soap opera community has been buzzing about the list of actors pre-nominated for the 44th Annual Daytime Emmy race, and as it tends to do during big soap opera moments lately, The Young and the Restless star Justin Hartley's (ex-Adam Newman) name made its way into the discussion.
The popular actor left the CBS soap last fall to join the cast of the hit prime time series This Is Us, but before departing Genoa City, he delivered some of the most memorable performances of the year. Therefore, Y&R fans were a bit confused to not see Hartley's name included on the pre-nom list. However, there's a very simple reason why.
After releasing the list of pre-nominated actors, The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences sent out a tweet via its official Daytime Emmy account to calm upset fans.
"Justin Hartley chose not to enter the competition this year," the organization clarifies. "He was not overlooked."

Had those fans checked in with soapcentral.com's coverage of the pre-nominations, they'd have saved themselves quite a bit of stress. We exclusively reported that Hartley hadn't submitted himself -- as well as reporting on several other stars who chose not to enter the Emmy race.
Though he's now a majorly successful star and has had an extensive daytime career, Hartley has received just one Daytime Emmy nomination: he was nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actor category last year.
What do you think about Hartley leaving himself out of the Daytime Emmy race? We want to hear from you -- and there are many ways you can share your thoughts.
