It's been a joy to have former primetime star Justin Hartley as The Young and the Restless' Adam Newman, but rumor has it there's a chance he'll be heading back to nighttime TV.
CBS is reportedly rebooting the wildly popular 80s series MacGyver, and they're on the hunt for an actor to take on the title character, formerly played by soap hunk Richard Dean Anderson (ex-Jeff Webber, General Hospital). And according to CBS Los Angeles and thousands of soap fans, Hartley would be perfect in the role.
"CBS -- your new 'MacGyver' is already on the payroll. Look no further than The Young and the Restless. Justin Hartley, who has played nefarious Adam since November 2014, is 'MacGyver' for all the right reasons," states the news outlet.
For those unfamiliar with the former series, which ran on ABC from 1985 to 1992, it followed heartthrob Angus MacGyver, who used his quick wits and common household items (bobby pins and chewing gum, for example) to get out of serious situations like explosions and other dramatic events. CBS Los Angeles is of the opinion that Hartley not only looks a bit like Anderson, but also "he's ridiculously charismatic, and would look believing [defusing] a bomb."
Speaking of explosive situations, an on-screen explosion is set to rock Y&R this November and will reportedly take out four Genoa City characters -- including a contract player. Rumor has it Sean Carrigan (Ben Stitch Rayburn) will be the main guy to go, but there's always a chance it could be Hartley's Adam instead. Looks like fans will have to wait and see...
Prior to joining Y&R, Hartley played the role of Passions' Fox Crane and Smallville's Oliver Queen.
Do you think Hartley would be a great MacGyver? Would you be sad to lose him from Y&R? Share your thoughts in the Comments section below, on our message boards, or by submitting Feedback.
