Finally the rumors can be put to rest: A spokesperson for The Young and the Restless has confirmed that Shemar Moore (Malcolm Winters) will return to the show this fall.
"We are thrilled to have Shemar back with us," said co-executive producer/head writer Jack Smith. "His story will be something very unexpected, off the page, and exciting. The man is going to have impact."
Moore was signed to appear as The Young and the Restless' Malcolm in 1994 after a Y&R casting director spotted Moore in a commercial for a men's shaving product. In 2000, Moore was awarded a Daytime Emmy in the Outstanding Supporting Actor category. Moore exited The Young and the Restless in February 2002, though his exit had appeared imminent long before he actually appeared in his then-final episode. At the time, Moore said that his agents were trying to convince him to cut ties with Y&R as soon as possible so that he could pursue additional film and television projects.

During his time away from The Young and the Restless, Moore appeared as host of the long-running television dance show Soul Train. He also appeared in the short-lived primetime series Birds of Prey on The WB. On the silver screen, Moore has appeared in Butter and The Brothers and will be seen in the upcoming flicks The Seat Filler and Diary of a Mad Black Woman.
Moore will first appear on November 1st, 2004. His return will coincide with the 8,000th episode of The Young and the Restless.
