Laura always knew she wanted to act and spent many years studying and acting in school, community and semi-professional productions. When she was in high school, her family relocated from Massachusetts to a large farm in Thomaston, Maine. She became involved in community theater and in 1981, decided to compete in The Miss Maine National Teenager Pageant, a scholastic competition where entrants are judged on poise, personality, appearance, and scholastic and leadership qualities. The first year she competed, she came in second and won the congeniality honor. Laura ran again in 1982 and won the state title in addition to winning the awards for "most photogenic," citizenship and again, congeniality.

After high school, Laura attended the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University where she studied acting, voice and movement. During a summer visit to Greece, she fell in love with the country, and following graduation she moved to the island of Rhodes. Her dream was tugging at her, though, and after a year Laura returned to Maine to continue her acting studies at both the International Film and Television Workshops in Rockport and the School for Performance Studies. She quickly landed modeling and acting jobs in commercials and soon made the move to New York City.

Laura studied at the Gately-Poole Studio before winning her role on NBC's Another World. After her run on the soap ended, Koffman tackled the role of Cassie Callison Carpenter on One Life to Live. Despite her success on television, she has not forgotten her theater roots. Laura is a member of the historic Players Club and has spent time in Lenox, Massachusetts, studying the classics at Shakespeare and Company's intensive four-week training course.

A farm girl at heart, Laura misses her life in the country and goes home to visit when she has free time. When she is not working, Laura also enjoys roller-blading, working out and reading.
