What happened during the week of December 31, 2012
Bill accused Caroline of being disloyal to him and the family by getting herself involved in Rick and Hope's issues. Caroline, however, tried to plead with him to see that Liam and Hope deserved to know the truth. Bill jerked himself away from Caroline, who then tripped and fell off the balcony where they'd been talking. While recovering in the hospital, Caroline claimed that it had been an accident; however, Rick suspected there was more to it. Alison capped Bill's coffee off with liquor. Katie caught a whiff of it and chastised Bill for the inappropriateness. Karen was fed up with Bill's cruelty and out-of-hand drinking, and she asked for Katie's help in dealing with it. In his own living room, Bill found himself surrounded by Brooke, Katie, Taylor, Dani, and Karen. As Rick vowed to care for Caroline and remain by her side during her recovery, Hope went to tell Liam about the fall and to plead her lovelorn case again. Liam said too much had happened, and he and Steffy were closer. Steffy confronted Hope and again warned her to stay away from Liam. Hope, however, said that a reunion was just a matter of time. Liam charged into Caroline's hospital and socked Rick in the face.

What happened during the week of December 31, 2012
Marlena felt guilty after she sent John to Brady's office, aware that he would find Kristen and Brady together. John tried to tell Brady the truth about Kristen's motives, but harsh words turned into a terrible fistfight. Though both men required medical treatment at the hospital, they decided not to report the incident to the police. Kristen and John fought about their past, her claim that he still loved her, and her belief that he was jealous of her affair with Brady. John felt like a fool because he had believed Kristen had changed for the better, but he was outraged to learn that she had manipulated everyone from day one. Marlena, Eric, and Sami tried to convince Brady to end his affair with Kristen for fear that she would destroy his life. Brady didn't believe them, and he was convinced that Kristen was sincere and loved him. John told Marlena that he was sorry that he hadn't believed her about Kristen. Gabi was ready to tell Father Eric the truth about the baby, but Will's last-minute text message changed her mind. Will confronted Nick about his "gay boy" comment about him, and he told Nick that he would not allow his child to live with a homophobic parent. Nick apologized to Will but seemed unaffected about Will's warning and threats. Nick told Will that he and Gabi were moving on with their lives. New Year's Eve marked a new beginning for some Salem couples. Sami and Rafe couldn't stop thinking about each other, even though their dates for the evening were with other people. Will and Sonny moved on in their relationship while Chad and Abigail decided to start out the New Year as friends. Daniel and Jennifer were excited to have a second chance at happiness and planned to spend a romantic night together. Adrienne apologized to Sonny about doubting that Will was a good match for him. E.J. made a move on Sami to jump-start their relationship, but Kristen's scheming pushed her right into Rafe's arms. Rafe challenged Sami to tell E.J. about her change of heart. Chloe showed up on Daniel's doorstep just as he was preparing for his big date with Jennifer.

General Hospital
What happened during the week of December 31, 2012
Patrick and Sabrina nearly kissed on New Year's Eve, but Britt called to apologize to Patrick for not making it to the
Haunted Star for their date. Britt was not pleased when she showed up on Patrick's doorstep and discovered that Sabrina was still there. Olivia continued to have visions about the puppy. Britt confirmed that Maxie had miscarried Lulu and Dante's baby, but Maxie decided not to tell anyone. Spinelli was heartbroken when Ellie failed to show for their New Year's Eve rendezvous on the hospital's rooftop, so he got drunk and went home with Maxie. Michael, Starr, Trey, and Kristina gave chase when they realized that Connie had kidnapped Johnny and had stashed him in the trunk of her car. The cars skidded off the road, leaving two people in critical condition. Connie's car struck Ellie after Ellie's own car had broken down. Trey collapsed shortly after the accident due to injuries that he had sustained when Michael swerved to avoid a collision with Connie's car. Connie clung to the edge of a cliff and begged for help, but Starr refused pull Connie to safety because Starr believed that Connie had been responsible for Hope and Cole's deaths. Starr was stunned when Johnny confessed that he had been the one who had shot out Anthony's tires. Later, Dante arrested Johnny for shooting out Anthony's tires, so Johnny decided to take Todd down with him. Todd and Carly rang in the new year by making love in his hotel suite. Olivia accepted Steve's proposal of marriage.

Adam and Chelsea reunited once he agreed that they'd leave town after he got the right people in place at Newman Enterprises. Jack spent New Year's Eve with Stephanie, a call girl Victor had hired to set Jack up. Jack passed out and found Stephanie dead on his floor the next morning. Adam helped Jack stage a heart attack and dispose of the body. Jack agreed to seek private counseling for his addiction. Phyllis chose to stay with Jack rather than help Daniel relocate to Savannah. Billy told Victoria that Jack wanted him to take over Newman Enterprises. Nick searched online for information on Dylan McAvoy, Avery's mystery man from the past. Nick and Avery celebrated New Year's Eve at the unopened Underground. Nick prepared to spend Cassie's birthday with Faith and Sharon. Noah confided in Nick about Adriana and why Alex was questioning him. Kevin and Chloe decided to keep the stolen cash. A jealous Fen told Jamie that Summer sent the messages from "Brittni," and Jamie disappeared. Michael turned to Paul for help dealing with Fen's troublesome behavior. Michael flipped out when he saw Fen manhandling Summer. Victor's investigator uncovered the fact that Stephanie had died of a drug overdose. The investigator reported to Victor that Stephanie was the daughter of Congressman Wheeler. Sharon told Adam that Cane had not offered her the Jabot spokeswoman job and wondered if he'd hire her at Newman Enterprises. Neil and Leslie made love.

Aidan told Maria that he had found Fiona shot to death with a note warning, "You're next." Aidan's hiding spot in the stable was nearly uncovered several times, but he managed to avoid capture. Aidan sneaked into the main house at Wildwind and sent an email to someone, which read, "Come and get me." Reggie, a young man at the Front Street Clinic, held Anna at scissor-point. Luis, another young man who made Reggie nervous, threatened Janelle. Greenlee, Kendall, Simone, Mia, Maggie, Joni, Laurie, and Liza had a New Year's Eve meeting to devise a launch plan for their company, which they named Fusion. Erica had a meeting with Jordan Roberts, a man from her past. Bianca and Chris worried that Erica might be flirting with him.

Craig rushed to Rosanna's side after Carly told him about her surgery. Lucy was crushed to learn that her recovery would be delayed because of unanticipated nerve damage; she pleaded with Sierra to allow her to stay in Oakdale. Lily apologized to Aaron and welcomed him to the family. Alison told Craig that Aaron and Lucy had made love in Tennessee. Hal dropped charges against Alison, Aaron, and Lucy, and declared Aaron a hero, and laid some ground rules for Barbara, who was livid when she learned about Will's mandatory psychiatric evaluation. Marshall bonded with his father after surgery. Per Jack's request, Margo made inquiries about missing babies. Molly was shocked to learn that Rosanna had purchased the penthouse; she expressed her feelings about Rosanna to Emma.

Tony and Ray learned that Eden was responsible for their father's death. Father Ray was overjoyed that Tony was able to let go of his anger and had decided to find a way to lead a normal and peaceful life with Marah. Carmen caused her final reign of terror as she escaped from prison and attempted to kidnap Robby at all costs. Bill saved the day by rescuing Michelle and Robby and removing Carmen from their lives forever. Danny was determined to win back Michelle's love and reunite his family. Bill ended his relationship with Beth when he admitted that he had gone to see Michelle to tell her that he was in love with her. Beth urged Phillip to follow his heart and never regret love, even though they might not agree with each other's choices. Alan exercised his prenuptial agreement with Olivia, leaving her virtually penniless but still married to the "almighty Spaulding king." Ready to invoke the same punishment on Phillip, Alexandra threatened Alan to stop his actions or else she would tell Olivia and Phillip that Alan had faked his heart attack and used their guilt to manipulate their lives and feelings for each other. Harley was forced to reveal to a devastated Gus that his father might have been on the take for the Santos family. However, Gus agreed to help her uncover a truth that could change his entire life.

Gabrielle finally admitted that they loved each other. Blair tried to convince Sam that she and Todd were over for good. Todd was livid after learning of the things that Mitch Laurence had done. Jessica went to see Mitch and told him that she would not have any contact with him, despite the fact that he was her biological father. When Troy went to tell Lindsay about his engagement to Nora, Lindsay threatened him again. In an attempt to keep her quiet, he had sex with her.

Miguel promised Kay he'd take responsibility for his child but made it clear his heart remained with Charity. Kay worked to keep Charity and Miguel from connecting. Ethan was impressed with Theresa at work but was concerned about her growing bond with Fox. Sheridan and Luis reunited and made plans to elope. Beth was pushed to the edge when she caught them making love. Thanks to Beth's machinations, Luis and Sheridan had a misunderstanding and were left believing the other didn't want to elope after all. Tabitha learned she was pregnant.
