Rafe and Sami discussed their relationship. Sami was heartbroken when Rafe told her that they could never be together. E.J. couldn't wait to comfort Sami after he orchestrated her breakup with Rafe. Nicole tried to help Rafe with his romance problems. Rafe walked in on a tender moment between Sami and E.J. An elated Gabi told Rafe that Nick had strong-armed Chad to give a deposition that would clear her from all charges. Sami learned about E.J.'s scheme to blackmail Rafe to keep Gabi out of prison if Rafe agreed to give up Sami. Chad was furious that E.J. had used him to win back Sami. Sami and Rafe reunited with a passionate kiss. E.J. couldn't bear losing Sami to Rafe. Daniel told Jennifer to stay out of Nicole and her baby's paternity issues. Jennifer and Nicole went at it in the middle of Horton Square, but Brady and Caroline stepped in to break up the fight before things got out of hand. Brady told Daniel to be wary of Nicole's affection for him. Later, Daniel admitted to Brady and Maggie that he still loved Jennifer. Maggie told Jennifer that Daniel still needed her friendship, regardless of his actions toward her. Rafe thanked Nick for helping Gabi win her freedom. Nicole asked Daniel to move to Utah with her and adopt her baby. Jennifer tried to reach out to Daniel again, but he continued to push her away. Nicole was devastated and heartbroken at the news that her baby had died. To make matters worse, she saw Daniel tending to Jennifer in a loving way. Gabi noticed that Caroline seemed forgetful and confused at times. Billie told Bo to follow his dreams. Bo told Caroline that he had an idea that might be the answer to his future. After Hope and Kayla told Bo that there would be more layoffs, Bo resigned from the Salem Police Department.
The wedding guests were shocked when Connie announced that she couldn't marry Sonny, because she had already married Johnny. Connie also revealed that she was Connie, not Kate. Sonny wanted to have Connie committed to Shadybrook for treatment, but Connie threatened to expose Johnny's secret if Johnny went along with Sonny's plans. Sonny appealed to Alexis to find a way to circumvent Johnny's refusal to commit Connie to Shadybrook. Carly ended things with Johnny for good, even though she suspected that Connie had blackmailed Johnny into marriage. Carly ended up crying on Todd's shoulder. Elizabeth confessed to Jason that she had lied to make Sam think that Jason and Elizabeth had a future together. Elizabeth admitted that she had also changed the results of the DNA test on Sam's baby. Afterwards, Elizabeth paid Sam a visit to tell Sam what she had done, but she kept quiet about the baby so that Jason could tell Sam that Sam's baby was alive. John went to Llanview to break the news to Téa that the baby wasn't hers, but he didn't get a chance, because Téa discovered that Heather had disappeared with Victor. Joe kidnapped Kristina with the intention of murdering her in Sonny's warehouse to make Sonny suffer and to allow Trey to inherit Kristina's estate. Trey intervened before Joe could carry out his deadly plan, but Joe was shot in the process. Joe turned to Tracy for help. Tracy initially agreed to hide Joe but changed her mind when Dante revealed the details of how Joe had been shot. Joe slipped out of the Quartermaine mansion before Dante could apprehend him.

What happened during the week of October 1, 2012
Phyllis was upset that Daniel seemed to be dating Heather, even though he denied it. Daniel and Heather convinced Chloe and Kevin to keep secret that they were indeed having a romance. Ronan tried to tell Phyllis that he loved her and was on her side, but she said she was committed to reuniting with Nick. Lauren advised Phyllis to keep her distance from Danny and Christine, but Phyllis was too irate to stay away. When Danny told Phyllis that he knew she had run down Christine and Paul years before, Phyllis revealed that she'd seen him kissing Christine the night of the hit-and-run. Christine overheard and told Michael that Phyllis had admitted to having a motive for attempted murder. Nina was furious when she learned that Phyllis was having an affair with Ronan. Phyllis and Nina threw insults at each other. Noah blasted Sharon for the way she was handling things and the effect on their family. Sharon was arrested and jailed. When Sharon attempted to broker a peace with Victor, he said that he was through with her. Avery and Nick celebrated Faith's birthday, but Avery wouldn't betray Phyllis' trust by responding to Nick's leaning in for a kiss. Victor and Nikki decided to take their renewed relationship slowly. Jack gave Tucker 48 hours to get things in order before he would called the SEC on Tucker...or take Beauty of Nature back from him. Tucker fumed at Genevieve for betraying him, but she was unapologetic. Sarge confided in Jack about his brother. Harmony didn't seem to remember Sarge's brother, but he recalled that she'd had a part in his brother's death. Devon rejected Tucker as a father. Eden tried hypnosis again to remember the night Ricky had died. Eden could only recall a few words that made Paul look guilty. Kyle encouraged Eden to tell the police or Paul what she remembered. In the alley outside the Athletic Club, Paul found Ricky's knife in a sewer grate. At the police station, everyone was shocked when there were no fingerprints on the knife. Later, a mysterious person walked past the alley. Lily and Cane had a romantic night together at the Athletic Club. Ronan went to see Phyllis again; she succumbed to his advances, and they made love. Kay disowned Tucker and announced that she would give Tucker's inheritance to Devon.

Bianca decided that she wanted to drop out of school and get a full-time job. At the community center, Bianca became chummy with a runaway named Rain. Adam agreed to let Hayley and Mateo adopt Arlene's baby, but Arlene wasn't as obliging. Gillian told Ryan that she needed more time with Jake. Hank Collins lost custody of his son, Ricky, and later learned Eliot's true identity from one of his cop buddies. Eliot revealed his past to Brooke after Hank broke into Brooke's home and started spilling the beans. Arlene developed cramping. Wade held Greenlee at gunpoint and forced her to end her relationship with Leo. Leo stubbornly refused to cut Greenlee off and ended up at the loft with her when shots rang out.

Alan hired press photographers at James's christening, identifying Phillip as the father and embarrassing Harley, Beth, and Jim. Danny granted Michelle the divorce, Michelle left Springfield, and May moved in on Danny. Noah and Woody both begged Reva to drop the investigation. Rick tried to convince Harley to tough out her marriage to Phillip. Edmund overheard Cassie and Richard's news of a possible pregnancy. Most of Springfield suffered through the Spaulding cocktail reception for Cassie and Richard. Buzz nailed Tony for trying to cheat Sam at dice. Susan and Sam tried to find a way to get the gang tickets to the concert. Beth wanted Lillian to find romance in her life. Reva's game of strip poker ended in tragedy.

Viki offered to let Todd move into Llanfair. Colin was arrested. With Melanie, Nora reminisced about her relationship with Bo. Roseanne accused Antonio of using her. Cris was arrested for punching Max. Sam learned Todd had held Nora for a month before taking her back. Todd paid Nora a visit. Blair convinced Max to drop the charges against Cris. Nora remembered being in the convent. Todd told Bo that Nora had been at Colin's house. Lindsay lied that she had been seen with Colin because they were having an affair. Kelly crashed Kevin's meeting with the mob boss. R.J. threatened Colin to keep quiet about Lindsay. Todd said that because everyone thought he was bad, he would be bad.

A look at what was happening the week of October 2, 2000
Theresa was devastated when she heard Ethan pledge his love to Gwen. Luis and Sheridan bonded over the birth of Pat's baby. Tabitha was face-to-face with the spirits of the ancestors of Grace, Sam, Julian, and Ivy. Rebecca told Theresa that Ethan was playing her for a fool. Charity had visions of Tabitha as the witch that was burned at the stake. Theresa was shattered when she overheard Ethan confide to Chad he was glad Theresa was not around to see the charade he was putting on. Reese saw Timmy alive. Luis told Pat's kids a fairy tale based on Sheridan and Luis. Theresa learned that Ethan was really Sam's son and vowed to stop the wedding by telling everyone that Ethan wasn't a Crane. Kay kissed Miguel. Ivy, Julian, and Alistair learned that Ethan was planning to call off the wedding.
