Sami turned to Marlena for advice about how to deal with Rafe being the father of Nicole's baby. Rafe and Sami went out on a date and tried to figure out where they stood with each other. Sami kept thinking about Rafe and found it difficult to concentrate on work. E.J. reminded Sami that Rafe would probably never forgive her for cheating on him with E.J. Sami confided to Will that she thought things might not work out with Rafe, but Will urged her to talk to him again. E.J. met with his associate, Howard, to discuss how to discredit Rafe and break up his relationship with Sami. Chad believed that Nick had hurt Melanie and nearly beat him to death. Gabi came clean to Melanie about her deal with Andrew and admitted that she had planned to steal Chad from Melanie. Melanie confronted Gabi and Chad about how they had hurt and betrayed her. Later, Melanie apologized to Nick for Chad's actions, and wished him well. Melanie told Chad that she was leaving Salem to spend time with her mother because she needed time to decide about her future. Maggie and Daniel supported Melanie's decision to leave town and then said their tearful goodbyes. Chad told Brady that the wedding was off. Brady and Melanie talked and promised to always be there for each other. A brokenhearted Chad asked E.J. to help him stop Melanie from leaving town, but E.J. was too late. Gabi confessed her crimes to Rafe. Justin explained to Gabi that she might face serious prison time, but Rafe reassured Gabi that he would find a way to make things work out. E.J. blackmailed Rafe to give up his relationship with Sami in exchange for Gabi's freedom. Sami asked Rafe if they had a future, but he was too preoccupied with Gabi's situation and E.J.'s threats to give her an honest answer. Jennifer told Nicole to move out of the house after the baby was born. Lucas talked to Sami about how he had felt seeing Will and Sonny kissing in the middle of Horton Square. Later, Lucas admitted to Adrienne that he realized how difficult it was for him to accept Will's open and gay lifestyle. Will told Lucas that he felt sad that his dad couldn't accept his choices.
Britt was not pleased when her date with Patrick was cut short because Sabrina had called to report that Emma had locked herself in a closet. Britt suspected that Sabrina had a crush on Patrick. Joe took advantage of Tracy's decision to drop off his pendant by reminding her of the strong connection that they shared. Tracy tried to deny that she was still attracted to Joe but ended up throwing herself into his arms. Todd made it clear that he would not help Johnny with Connie unless Johnny located Heather. Sonny and others remained oblivious to Connie's return, despite her outrageous wedding plans and demands for a wild bachelorette party. Desperate to impress Kate, Maxie enlisted Lulu's help to persuade Milo to strip at Kate's party. Connie was impressed with Milo's performance, so she followed him to a back room and cornered him for a kiss. Trey confessed to Starr that he'd had an encounter with his mother, but he refused to elaborate beyond that. Sonny confronted Trey with the pendant bearing the initials JMS. Trey confessed that he was Joe's son, but he refused to tell Sonny where Joe was. Jason was stunned when the DNA sample that John had obtained from Victor was not a match to Sam. Elizabeth appeared to have tampered with the results of the DNA test. Sam was hopeful that she and Jason might be able to work things out after a chance encounter at the Noodle Buddha on their one-year wedding anniversary. Sam overheard Elizabeth talking to Lulu about Jason, so Sam decided to drop off the signed divorce papers so that Jason could be free to pursue Elizabeth. Maxie was crushed when she heard Spinelli and Ellie finalize plans for a first date.

What happened during the week of September 24, 2012
Billy believed Victor had died in the explosion in Los Angeles and told the family. At Sharon's press conference, the news arrived that Victor had died. The Newmans were devastated, but Sharon seemed unfazed. When asked to identify the body, she knew it wasn't Victor but said it was. She had the body cremated and then planned a quickie funeral service. Sharon arrived at the chapel in white because she was going to marry Tucker after Victor's service. Jack was forced to sell Beauty of Nature to Tucker when Victor's death resulted in a margin call on the Newman stock. Chelsea suggested to Adam that they name their baby for Victor. Billy was wracked with guilt because he hadn't taken Victor back home as soon as he'd found him. Kevin urged Billy to tell Victoria the truth. Sister Celeste led Genevieve to an injured Victor. Genevieve nursed Victor as he struggled with a concussion. At the cemetery, Sharon ended the service quickly, not allowing the family to speak. Nikki mourned for Victor at the graveside. She was stunned when Victor suddenly appeared. Victor stopped Sharon's wedding by declaring that she was still his wife. Tucker turned his back on Sharon. Nikki and Kay were unforgiving of Genevieve for having worked for Tucker to keep Victor away from them. Victor ordered Sharon to leave his house. Victor held a press conference, announcing that he was taking charge of Newman Enterprises and that he would right the wrongs done in his absence. Victor and Nikki made love. Katherine disowned Tucker. Jack told Traci he was going to try to get the Beauty of Nature sale nullified. Tucker dared Jack to report him to the SEC. Genevieve offered to testify against Tucker to help Jack with the SEC. Phyllis was stunned to see Danny in town and refused to discuss what had happened 18 years before with Christine and Paul. Danny apologized to Paul for the past. Christine was happy to see Danny again. At Fairview, the security cameras didn't reveal the identity of the woman who'd discharged Daisy. Victor assured Billy that he wouldn't reveal to Victoria what Billy had done in Los Angeles. Patty knew more about what had happened with Daisy than she told Paul. Sharon filed a lawsuit against Victor for abandonment, prompting him to have Michael press charges against Sharon.

Judith left town for six months without telling Kevin. Jason wanted Kevin to visit him in jail. Tim fervently opposed Trevor's decision to date Janet. Brooke was finally able to come to terms with her feelings of guilt over the crash of Flight 149. Miles grounded all TransGlobal flights. An employee blamed Adam for TransGlobal's problems, and later Adam felt he was responsible for the deaths on Flight 149. As he battled his conscience, he learned that Liza was aboard a TransGlobal flight that had to make an emergency landing.

Ben decided to protect Camille by staying away from her, but they still received a threatening package. Nikki and Terri learned more about David's parents, but Emily threw an obstacle in their way. David and Emily shared a tender moment. John threw Barbara an engagement party. Carly told Molly about her past and used her wiles to gain the assistance of a lab tech who delivered some disturbing news to Lily.

A look at what was happening the week of September 29, 1997
Alan and Josh had a confrontation. They put two and two together and raced after Reva who, along with Blake, had taken Annie to Cross Creek. While there, the tag team paraded in Fran, who told Annie that Alan had paid her to testify against Annie in court. Alan and Josh arrived to free Annie. Everyone left except Annie, who was basically coming unhinged. She began drinking and wrecked the cabin, all the while carrying around an "Annie gets even" list. Jesse discovered he had Maureen's heart. Ed returned home and told Rick the story behind why Jesse had gotten Maureen's heart. None of the three wanted Michelle to find out the truth. Good things happened between Harley and Phillip. Buzz followed Nola to the cabin. Nola was very lonely. Buzz offered to help her and ended up falling down the stairs.

Dorian's phone bill proved she had called David. Addie provided a clue to Dorian's past. Dorothy told Mel the real reason her mother had visited just before her death. The charity auction began.
