Sami asked Rafe how he felt about her, but before Rafe could answer, E.J. spoiled the moment and asked Rafe about Nicole's baby. E.J told Sami that he had romantic feelings for her and that he wanted their relationship to move forward. E.J. contacted Justin for advice on how to gain custody of Nicole's baby. Melanie was shocked when she bumped into Nick at the Kiriakis mansion while there to visit Maggie. Melanie left before she could ask Maggie for advice. Later, she said yes to Chad's proposal. Daniel and Maggie were not thrilled at Melanie's sudden engagement to Chad. Nick found a job thanks to Caroline's good nature and kind spirit. Abigail and Jennifer had a fight when Jennifer tried to give Abigail advice about her love life. Later, Cameron broke it off with Abigail. Daniel was excited for Nicole when she let him feel her baby kick. E.J. prepared for his big date with Sami. Nicole confided to Rafe about her feelings for Daniel, and then she told Rafe that he was still in love with Sami. Rafe had a confrontation with Sami, warning her about having a relationship with E.J. As Rafe was about to leave, he surprised himself and Sami and kissed her passionately. Rafe tried to sort out his true feelings for Sami after the kiss. Sami felt conflicted about her feelings for E.J. and newfound feelings for Rafe. Sonny questioned Adrienne about why she didn't want him to get involved in a relationship with Will. Will and Sonny bonded. Chad told Will and Sonny about his engagement to Melanie and asked them to be in the wedding. Chad tried to force Gabi to find a way out of being a bridesmaid at his wedding, but Gabi held her ground and refused to submit to Chad's threats. Jennifer returned to her job at the hospital. Jennifer and Daniel seemed at odds with each other, mostly due to Nicole's meddling. Nicole tried to keep Daniel and Jennifer from working together and tried to get Maggie on her side. Jennifer decided to clear the air with Daniel, but before she could talk to him, Nicole played Daniel and told him that she planned to name her son after him.
The crisis in Port Charles reached an explosive end when Jerry's boat blew up, and Jerry was presumed killed. John managed to disarm the briefcase in time for Dante and Lulu to race the life-saving antiserum to the hospital. The counteragent was distributed throughout Port Charles, but not without a casualty. The Quartermaines' beloved Cook succumbed to the fever. Jax cautioned Carly not to trust Todd and Johnny, because they were lying to her. Sam confessed to Kristina that she felt more than friendship for John. However, Sam was ready to forgive Jason, so she went to the penthouse to talk to him. Elizabeth confessed to Jason that she had strong feelings for him. Sam was stunned when she witnessed Jason and Elizabeth kissing. Jason found several discrepancies with Sam's baby's medical records, so he asked Spinelli to check into the possibility that Sam's baby might have been switched with a baby that had died. Spinelli persuaded a lab technician to run some tests, which confirmed that Sam was not the mother of the child who had died. Heather introduced herself as Susan Moore, and then quickly ingratiated herself with Téa. Téa agreed to hire the woman she knew as Susan Moore to help care for Victor. Sonny and Kate decided to move up their wedding. Kate was shocked when she saw Trey wearing a pendant similar to the one that Joe had worn the night that Joe had raped her. Tracy was eager to explore a relationship with Joe, but first she wanted to know his last name.

What happened during the week of September 10, 2012
Michael didn't believe that Phyllis and Ronan had been having an affair. Despite all Michael's efforts, Ronan, Phyllis, and Kevin stuck with their cover-up story. Ronan arranged for Beth to go on vacation so Michael could not depose her. Phyllis refused Avery's advice, even though her sister was right about Nick's negative reaction to Phyllis' lies. Ronan stunned Nick by revealing he was lying for Phyllis because he was in love with her. Summer learned about Ronan and Phyllis from Fen. Unable to tell Summer the truth, Nick and Phyllis lied about the affair and Summer rebelled by buying vodka. Ronan caught Summer and Fen with the bottle and saved them from being arrested. Paul discovered a flash drive with a video hidden in Ricky's snow globe. In the video, Ricky claimed that if something happened to him, Paul had done it. Lauren was determined to protect Paul by revealing the truth about the gun, but Michael begged her to remain silent. Nick moved back to the ranch. Chelsea and Adam agreed to keep her pregnancy a secret, but then Jeffrey and Gloria overheard Chloe telling Kevin about the baby. Chloe surprised Kevin with a shelter dog. Kevin confessed to Chloe that he was involved with Phyllis' cover-up. Chloe was furious with Kevin. In Los Angeles, Victor stood up for the dockworkers and, in retaliation, was seriously injured on the job. Despite the danger, Victor would not stop fighting for the workers. Genevieve feared that Victor would be seriously hurt. Tucker insisted that Genevieve keep Victor away from Genoa City. Jack told Katherine and Nikki that Victor might have run off with Genevieve. Victoria rehired Nick and ensured that neither of them could be fired without approval from the Newman board. Sharon was stunned to discover Daisy was hiding at Fairview to avoid Ricky's murderous rage. Sharon informed Daisy that Ricky had been killed. Dr. Laurents released Sharon from Fairview, and she immediately returned to Newman Enterprises. Daisy took an overdose of pills to get transferred to Genoa City Memorial Hospital, where she hoped to escape. Jack warned Victoria that Tucker might be plotting a hostile takeover of Newman Enterprises, but Victoria was worried about Jack's five percent acquisition of Newman stock.

Anna sneaked around David's hotel room, and the two ended up sharing an unexpected kiss.

Katie left Simon at the airport. Jen slept with Billy and confided in Emily. Hal and Emily's second date went great until Paul and Carly showed up and ruined it. Carly and Paul compared notes on Emily to realize she had lied. Lily and Holden heard of a car accident and found out Luke was dead, but they did not believe it. Lily found a message on the death certificate that could be a clue to the lie. Nick helped Adam and Abigail with a school project that made Molly nervous.

Ross met one of his new students who was enamored with his style and knowledge. Tony took the heat off Josh, but Sam got all the credit. Alan kept taunting Olivia, and Sam's conscience was heavy with guilt for lying to Marah and Josh to protect Olivia. Buzz and Holly mocked Edmund when they found him playing piano for his supper in a Chicago bar. Reva just couldn't prove to Josh that Olivia was the real culprit, and Reva decided to leave town for some rest and relaxation. Colonel Dax arranged for Mrs. Mayhew to encourage Richard and Cassie to adopt Alonzo's child as their own so that the birth heir to the San Cristobel throne could eventually take his rightful place. Cassie was distraught and reluctant to consider adoption, even in the midst of Richard's victory on winning the presidency. Claire hired Gus to find out Olivia's connection to Alan. Claire's baby shower for Michelle turned ugly when Maria and Carmen were the only guests. Carlos delivered an ultimatum to Danny from the mob's highest echelon. Reva felt Sara's presence, and Edmund couldn't believe his eyes when he met Lorelei, a very familiar stranger who saved his life.

A look at what was happening the week of September 16, 2001
The warlocks caused an earthquake when the kids refused to turn over "the one" they wanted. Tabitha, Timmy, and the kids got trapped in the cave. Sam took care of Ivy, who was close to death after getting hit by lightning and falling off the side of the lighthouse. At the hospital, Ivy refused to have surgery until she talked to Sam. While trapped in the shed, Grace got to know David better. Sam arrived and found Grace asleep in David's arms. Several angry Harmony residents searched the entire Bermuda resort for Julian and Theresa. Whitney helped Julian avoid getting caught with her sedated friend. Luis waited anxiously when he heard a woman had been found at sea and was being taken to shore.
