Will's anger over Sami and E.J's affair seemed too much for him to bear. Marlena's efforts to help Will cope with his mom's betrayal of Rafe failed, and he was inconsolable. Rather than confront Sami as Marlena suggested, he warned Rafe that his mom would ultimately break Rafe's heart. With Marlena, Bo and Hope discussed their unresolved feelings and hurt about the circumstances related to Zack's death. Brady offered John a father-son partnership to rebuild Basic Black together. Jennifer cautioned Jack not to expect too much from her while on their family vacation in Hawaii. Later, Jack spotted Jennifer and Daniel in an embrace, unaware of Daniel's medical crisis. Jennifer comforted Daniel after she learned that his surgical career might be over for good. Kate forced Sami to break her confidentiality agreement with Mad World Cosmetics and spill all of Madison's product launch and promotional secrets so that Countess W would have the edge in the market. Rafe and Carrie launched their new business venture. Abigail and Chad mutually decided to end their relationship. However, Abigail later learned that both Chad and Melanie had had feelings for each other since Halloween and blasted her friends for betraying her. Austin seemed to be in the right place at the right time, and Abigail found comfort from her problems in his arms. Stefano confided to Kate that he felt guilty lying to E.J., but never disclosed about what. Kate seemed suspicious when John told Stefano that he didn't need any more of Stefano's help. Will demanded that E.J. give him money to leave Salem or else Will would reveal E.J.'s big secret.
Sam realized that her period was late, so she purchased a home pregnancy test. Jax secretly returned to Port Charles. During Carly's New Year's Eve bash at Metro Court, Michael angrily confronted his mother about Jax surviving the plane crash. Alexis, Sonny, and Kate took turns ranting at Carly after Michael stormed off. In his fury, Michael stepped into the path of Jason's motorcycle. Jason managed to avoid a collision, but the accident triggered memories of Jake's tragic death. Sonny refused to give in to Michael's demands to join the Corinthos organization, so Michael turned to Johnny. Anthony made plans to marry Tracy, despite her refusal to accept his proposal. Ethan shared an unexpected New Year's Eve kiss with the lady in white. Later, Spinelli and Ethan were stunned when Ewen revealed that the lady in white was his patient. Maxie asked Matt to move in with her after Lulu officially moved out. Spinelli decided that three was a crowd, so he moved out of the penthouse. Robin made plans to secretly fly to Seattle to meet with a doctor, instead of heading to an AIDS conference in Africa. Robin confessed to Elizabeth that her viral loads were unstable, and that the new drug protocol might not be effective, so she wanted Elizabeth to take care of Patrick and Emma in her place. Jason collapsed at Patrick's feet shortly after arriving at the hospital to talk to Robin.

Allison Perkins arranged for a citywide blackout in Llanview, so that she could escape from Statesville Prison. Several others managed to escape, as well, including Mitch Laurence, Troy MacIver, and Hannah O'Connor. Mitch kidnapped Natalie and threatened her life, in an effort to force Jessica to comply with his demands. Ford was injured during an attempt to save Jessica. John shot Mitch in an effort to save Natalie. Elsewhere, Allison revealed to Viki and Clint that Jessica and Natalie were Clint's daughters. Allison explained that she had lied to Mitch to save herself when Mitch had overheard the doctor confirm that Mitch had not fathered either of Viki's twins. Tragedy struck when Allison shot Viki. Clint raced to call 9-1-1, but clutched his chest, and then collapsed next to Viki's unconscious body before he could complete the call. Meanwhile, Troy kidnapped Nora, and then took her to a secluded cabin. Lindsay Rappaport managed to make her way to Bo, and then helped him find Nora. Bo was gravely injured when Troy and Bo exchanged gunfire. Nora pleaded with Troy to save Bo's life. At LaBoulaie, Cole Thornhart revealed that he had received a letter from his father. Cole intended to join his parents in hiding, rather than return to jail. Hannah showed up on Starr's doorstep with deadly intent, but in the end, Hannah accidentally shot Cole. Cole was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

What happened during the week of
After discovering the positive reaction to her song, Angelina posted a video message on Faceplace. Nikki, Nick, and Victoria all criticized Victor for wanting to marry Sharon. Patty sabotaged Genevieve so Genevieve would tumble down the stairs. Jack caught Genevieve but was afraid for her life and asked her to move in with him. Angry over Kevin, a drunken Chloe kissed Daniel. Nick took Faith from Sharon, rescinding her custody. The results of the DNA test showed that Billy was the father of Chelsea's baby. Eden took a picture of Chloe and Daniel kissing. Billy believed that Victor had arranged for Chelsea to entrap him in Myanmar. When Angelo learned that Kevin was in a motel with Angelina, he put out a hit on Kevin. Thanks to Victor's influence with a judge, Sharon was awarded joint custody of Faith with Nick. Ronan and Paul agreed to work together on Diane's murder and the incidents at Genevieve's house. Phyllis ripped Sharon to shreds in the new issue of
Restless Style over Sharon's engagement to Victor. Devon accepted business advice from Tucker. Adam fumed about Sharon's engagement to Victor, forcing Sharon to have him arrested for violating the restraining order. Impressed by Victor's promise to always protect her, Sharon agreed to marry him.
