The nominees for this year's GLAAD Media Awards are out, and The Bold and the Beautiful and Days of our Lives have received nominations. The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor news and entertainment media for their fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has announced the nominees for its 24th Annual Media Awards. This year, the organization has nominated two soap operas for the Outstanding Daily Drama award. The nominees are The Bold and the Beautiful and Days of our Lives.

Days of our Lives was nominated for the coming out of Will Horton, and the story of the romance between Will and Sonny Kiriakis.

B&B's nomination stemmed from its storyline involving "Caroline's two mommies." Karen Spencer (played by original cast member and writer/director/producer Joanna Johnson) had been keeping a secret from her family, specifically her brother, Bill Spencer: she is a lesbian. Karen's life partner, Danielle (portrayed by Crystal Chappell), and the couple's daughter, Caroline (portrayed by Linsey Godfrey), stand by her side when she decides to come clean and come out to Bill.

"This marks the first GLAAD Media Award nomination for the The Bold and the Beautiful. It also marks a monumental moment in the history of the show, as it portrays the first gay characters in the show's 25 year history," a spokesperson for The Bold and the Beautiful said in a statement.

Prior to the fictional storyline airing, Joanna Johnson publicly announced that she is also gay.

The GLAAD Media Awards will be handed out in three ceremonies: New York on March 16, in Los Angeles on April 20, and in San Francisco on May 11.
