40th Annual NAACP Image Awards Nominations
Posted Wednesday, January 07, 2009 11:55:23 PM
There are new faces among this year's nominees for the NAACP's Image Awards, though The Young and the Restless continued to dominate. The Image Awards air February 12.
The nominees for the 40th NAACP Image Awards were announced on January 7. Among the dozens of nominees are ten choices for outstanding actor and actress in a daytime drama series. The NAACP Image Awards honors projects and individuals that promote diversity in the arts in television, recording, literature and motion pictures.

As has been the case in recent years, The Young and the Restless earned the lion's share of the nominations. Half of the nominations went to the top-rated CBS soap and four of the five Outstanding Actress nominees were from Y&R. Last year's winner among the actors, Kristoff St. John (Neil Winters, The Young and the Restless), was not nominated this year -- ending a run of consecutive nominations that began back in 1993. Moreover, just two of this year's nominees were on the ballot last year.

Here is the listing of soap-related nominees for this year's NAACP Image Awards. For a complete listing of all nominees, click here.
