The 27th Annual Daytime Emmys

It was a night of firsts. Like last year's memorable Emmy win by Susan Lucci (Erica Kane, All My Children), this year some new faces got to walk home with Emmy gold.

Going into the night, The Young and the Restless had racked up a jaw-dropping 28 nominations. Some insiders feared that there might be backlash against the CBS soap for earning so many nominations. . In 1999, The Young and the Restless, which has spent more than 520 consecutive weeks atop the Nielsen ratings chart, also tallied up the most nominations, but it was nearly shutout of the winners' circle. But that was last year.

Before the show started, the show's writers and producers decided that it might be fun to poke a little fun at Susan Lucci's long overdue win. Talk show host Rosie O'Donnell stood center stage and announced that a camera crew had been following Lucci around since her win and captured some rare footage of how her life had changed since winning the Emmy award. In a series of humorous clips, Lucci was shown weightlifting with the statuette, pushing it around in a shopping cart at the grocery store and even dashing into a limousine to escape from just one of the people who desperately wanted to get to know her now that she was a winner --- President Bill Clinton.

Then, it came time for the awards.
