Port Charles Online News | Recasner, Ellen Being Written Out

It's official: Marie-Alise Recasner, who portrays Ellen Burgess, has been let go.

For several weeks, Internet rumors have been flying about Mitch Longley's (Matt Harmon) status with the show. The rumors had indicated that he was going to be let go.

Recasner took over the role of Ellen Burgess in December after soap vet Debbi Morgan (ex-Angie, AMC, The City, Loving) left the soap to pursue other film projects. After Morgan left, the writers decided that they didn't want Ellen to be a lead character and once Mary-Alise took over the role, the role of Ellen was changed to a recurring role.

Now, apparently, the writers want to take the character of Ellen out of the picture completely. A week back, Ellen got a job offer from another hospital. It looks like she might take that offer and leave Port Charles. The firing of Ellen was mainly "storyline-dictated," according to an inside source---although Ellen hasn't had a storyline for quite sometime.

Rumors have been swirling that Recasner's firing was due to the signing of former CBS soap vet Kimberlin Brown. Brown joined the show in July and presumably came with a hefty price tag. A similar rumor made the rounds with Finola Hughes joined the cast of All My Children.

Recasner's last air date is August 26th.
