Fans have mixed reactions over Doechii's MET gala look.
The Swamp Princess has the internet in bits over her look for the annual fashion celebration, the MET gala. The theme this year is "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" and it represents the
12 "characteristic of dandy style: Ownership, Presence, Distinction, Disguise, Freedom, Champion, Respectability, Jook (defined in Zora Neale Hurston’s “Characteristics of Negro Expression”—an important reference for the exhibiton—as a space for dancing, drinking, and other leisure activities), Heritage, Beauty, Cool, and Cosmopolitanism."
And Doechii did just that, dressed in a custom Louis Vuitton ensemble. The look was an amalgamation of an ivory long-tailed blazer and wide shorts in two of the house’s iconic prints. Chunky T-bar shoes, tube socks, and a pussy bow, all in burgundy, topped off (literally) with the singer's hair styled in an afro, a proud representation of the theme. She completed the look with a little bit of quirk with an LV print on her face and a cigar in her hand.
But that's not all, as the Nissan Altima singer has been serving looks all weekend. On Sunday, the singer was spotted in a white bra, Tanner Fletcher Winnie Stripe Taffeta Boxer Shorts, and a multicolored jacket, along with her accessories, adding a plaid newsboy cap, chunky gold jewelry, and a nod to 90s African Dandy culture.
While on Friday, she gave us not one but two looks. She hit the streets with a brown Louis Vuitton suit featuring a cropped jacket and pleated skirt and carried a Louis Vuitton handbag filled with sunflowers. This look now can be considered a sneak peek of her official carpet look. She was also seen leaving the Mark Hotel in white track pants and a red sweatshirt. Doechii was decked out in Louis Vuitton accessories, including a tennis racket case, an ode to the late fashion legend André Leon Talley in the form of a recreation.
Fans give mixed reactions to Doechii's look
Though the Grammy winner hit the mark on the theme, some people were left unimpressed.
One user commented, "are all the stylists on strike this year?"
While another stated, "should’ve stayed home."
However, most fans appreciated her on-theme look and the homage it gave.
One fan exclaimed, "She’s literally the best dressed tonight idc. She embodies this theme from the hair to the outfit to the accessories. Stop playing with her!"
Another agreed, "she is EXTREMELY on theme"
While one user reasoned, "Not much liked the style but she's understood the concept very well"
Her look can be construed as another subtle nod to a younger André Leon Talley, showcasing how much research Doechii put into her look.
