Miles opened a letter from Spencer, and Spencer appeared next to an understandably startled Miles. The late doctor gave Miles a pep talk about going after Marty, adding that Marty's rejection was only "a minor setback." Spencer reminded him that he had encouraged him to lead an "extraordinary life." Miles thanked Spencer for "everything you've done for me," but wasn't sure he wanted to get involved with something that had anything to do with Todd. Spencer asked Miles to read the letter he left for Todd and vanished.

Nash and Jessica ran into each other, yet again. They squabbled (to put it mildly). Nash made it clear he didn't think that Jessica adopting Jamie was such a good idea. Jessica said her only mistake was letting herself feel anything for Nash.

Antonio and Talia discovered the arsonist was involved with a white supremacist group. Antonio asked her if she'd been the victim of a hate crime. "My family has had some problems, yeah," she said. "Especially after 9/11." Antonio looked out the window and saw Nash and Jessica in a rather heated discussion. Jessica came home and Talia left. Antonio asked about Nash, saying he had seen them outside. Jessica explained that Nash was upset about the news about Jamie's adoption. Jessica tried to explain things as best she could but she wasn't making much sense (as she had to lie). "He makes problems where there are none," she said, clearly flustered. Antonio went to bed. Jessica looked out of the window and saw Nash sitting there.

At the police station, Starr said she'd avoid Cole if Todd promised to leave him alone and Marty wouldn't send him to military school. Todd didn't think that would work. Starr told Cole that he'd have to lose her or others would be hurt. Marty thought Starr was doing the right thing. Todd wasn't sure he could trust Starr. "Look into my eyes," Starr begged her dad. Cole agreed to go along with Starr's suggestion, but wasn't happy about it. Todd told his daughter he was proud of her. "Someone has to be grown up around here," she growled. Cole wanted a moment alone with Starr to say goodbye. Once alone, Cole told Starr "that was genius," but Starr reiterated it was really goodbye. Starr said she was doing it for Cole, "for me," for Langston, for Jack. "Anything else is impossible," she said. Starr said they couldn't even text each other; their relationship was over. Starr and Cole kissed goodbye. Todd and Marty went back into the squad room and took their respective kids home.

John found a teary Natalie by the docks. John yelled at her for giving Todd the heads up about Starr and Cole. "Getting married is not going to solve any of our problems," he yelled. "Is this relationship dead in the water?" Natalie countered. John said he didn't like the fact that Natalie always seems to know what is best for him and worse, acts on it. Both agreed that though they loved each other, "that isn't enough," sobbed Natalie. "Maybe we're too much alike," she added. John said that they had been friends before. "My best friend," Natalie wept. Natalie went home, packed her bags and started to leave, but John stopped her and they began to have break-up sex.

Tate flirted with Adriana, much to Rex's irritation. Tate bragged that he's sure she is interested in him. Adriana made it clear that she's in love with Rex. "Nothing is going to happen with you," she stated. "A guy can dream, can't he?" he countered. Tate drew quite a crowd at his first appearance as the spokesmodel for Exposed. Rex was jealous. Rex asked if Adriana would hire a hot celebrity babe to model the bras. No way, Adriana replied. Despite her claims to the contrary, Adriana appeared to be jealous herself when she saw Tate and Layla kiss. (The kiss was just an act to make it appear that Tate was taken; the women in the crowd kept flirting with him anyway.) Adriana was also relieved to learn it was an act. Hmmm.

Sex or no sex, John and Natalie broke up anyway. The bittersweet parting was interrupted by Roxy who immediately sucker-punched John when she realized they had broken up. John and Natalie explained the reasons for the split. Natalie went home and told Viki, "John and I are over," and broke down in her mother's arms.

Todd visited his big sister and she told him about her conversation/recent humiliation with Clint. Todd said that Clint and Dorian deserved each other. Viki said she wasn't going to throw herself at someone who didn't want her. Then she wondered why Todd was so happy. Todd gleefully shared that Cristian and Blair had "kept each other warm at Llantano Mountain." Todd and Viki headed to their board meeting. Douglas Kline was introduced as the new board chairman, replacing Spencer Truman. Moments later he asked Viki out to dinner. Todd replied on Viki's behalf. "She'd love to," he said. Todd pointed out to Viki that Douglas was "ruggedly handsome" and wasn't wearing a wedding ring.

Bo gave Nora the 411 on what they had learned about the arsonist and his beliefs. Nora was, again, rude to Talia. Nora told Bo the police weren't working hard enough. "I want this bastard caught," she snarled and stormed out. Evangeline tried to calm Nora down. Todd showed up and asked Evangeline out.

Clint told Dorian he chooses her. Dorian asked Clint if he was sure. Clint showered Dorian with compliments (and some criticisms). "We have a lot in common," Dorian said. Clint asked Dorian for a second chance and Dorian said, "No," but said she'd love to give them a fresh start.

Evangeline declines Todd's offer to go to dinner with him, so he suggests that he cook something for her. She accepts. Todd wants to know what she'd like him to cook. Vangie tells him that anything will be fine because it means more when someone cooks a meal than when someone just buys a meal. Todd then asks her what her fantasy meal would be. She remembers the first time she went to a Creole restaurant and explains how much that meal meant to her. He's inspired to cook that for her, even though she tells him he doesn't have to. She gives him a small peck on the cheek and then leaves.

Langston and Starr are walking around the high school. Langston is chatting with Starr, but Starr is hardly paying attention to her. To get Starr's attention, Langston pretends to see Cole. Starr gets mad that Langston tricked her, and they have a fight. Langston thinks that Starr is being ungrateful for all the help that she provided when Starr and Cole were going to run away together. Langston takes off and Cole walks by. He wants to talk to Starr, but she doesn't want to. He wants them to resume their relationship, but she is adamant about staying apart. Cole doesn't believe that Starr's feeling for him have changed, and tells her that he'll walk away from her if she tells him that she doesn't love him. She meekly says that she doesn't love him, which proves to Cole that she's lying. He tells her that he's going to fight for her because he doesn't want to lie about his feelings, and walks away. Langston comes back to comfort Starr.

Langston gives Starr a tissue to wipe her eyes. Starr wonders if she's always going to have this much trouble with her parents whenever she has a boyfriend. She also wonders if she did the right thing where Cole is concerned. Langston reassures her that it will all turn out okay if Cole keeps his distance. Starr really wants to see Cole, so Langston asks if Starr is going to break her promise to her parents. Starr says that she can't, but is still worried about how Cole will handle their breakup.

Miles brings Marty a bunch of white roses as a way to make peace after forcing her to kiss him. She tells him that that won't work with her. However, she still invites Miles into her office. He apologizes again, and tells her that he knows what happened to her in college. Marty is surprised that he knows something, but doesn't want to talk about the rape. Miles compares his years in the sanitarium with Marty's rape, in that they're both trying to work out their feelings about them. He worries about losing Marty as a friend, but she assures him that that won't happen. Miles then tells Marty that he understands now why Spencer hated Todd so much, which confuses Marty.

Marty then explains that Spencer hated Todd because Blair loved Todd, not because Todd raped Marty. She goes on to give Miles a brief history of Todd to help explain why Todd became the man he is, and how Todd needs to control women. Miles says that that explanation makes sense given what Spencer told him. She thinks that Spencer talked to Miles about Todd while Spencer was treating Miles, but Miles explains that Spencer sent him a letter posthumously. Marty tells Miles that he could tell her what the letter said if he wants to. He decides not to, but needs to take some time to work out what to do with the information Spencer gave him.

Adriana is shocked that Rex thinks that she's jealous of Tate and Layla. They have a little quarrel because she thinks that he thinks that she's shallow. He disagrees, but he thinks that she likes the looks of him. She insists that she's only exploiting Tate's look for ExPosed, but Rex isn't as convinced. Rex asks her if she likes Tate. She responds that the only reason she likes Tate is because he's making money for their company. Rex then asks her if his jealousy is a turn-off. Actually she thinks it's a turn-on because it shows that he cares about her. Rex tells her that he knows Tate has a thing for her. She mentions that Tate said he'd ask her out if she weren't taken, but she insists that the Tate situation has been handled. Rex then mentions that if another girl were interested in him, he'd feel a bit of a rush, and he thinks that Adriana might be feeling the same way. Adriana is shocked, but Rex calms her by telling her that he definitely wouldn't go out with this other girl. Adriana prematurely accepts Rex's apology for accusing her of wanting Tate.

Meanwhile, Layla asks Tate if he's going to leave Adriana alone. Tate cryptically tells Layla that he plans to fight for Adriana. Layla is convinced that Adriana and Rex will have a long-term relationship. Tate begs to differ. She warns him not to touch Adriana. Evangeline stops by and Layla reintroduces her to Tate. Tate greets Vangie and assures Layla that he won't do anything to jeopardize ExPosed. He then jealously looks on as Adriana and Rex make out, and excuses himself from Evangeline and Layla. Vangie thinks Tate is full of hot air, but Layla doesn't think that Tate is bluffing about his interest in Adriana.

John is punching a bag at the gym as a guy walks by reminding him that there are others that want to use it. John turns to yell at the guy, but finds Michael standing behind him instead. He tells Mike that he and Natalie broke up, and that Natalie initiated it. Mike is curious if their breakup will result in them remaining friendly. John doesn't think that will happen. He then asks Mike if Mike thinks they're parents would still be together if their dad hadn't died. Mike is sure they would, but warns him not to compare their parents to his relationship with Nat. Mike remembers their mom telling him that she and their dad would talk all the time, even if they'd only been apart for a short time. John asks Mike if that's what his relationship with Marcie is like. Mike says that that is exactly what their relationship is like, and that Tommy completed their circle. He starts to say something about the truth about Tommy, but stops. John wants to know more. Mike covers by saying that he's worried that Tommy's biological parents will want him back in the future. John assures Michael that that won't happen.

Cole walks into the gym, prompting John to tell Mike about what happened at the bus station. Mike is impressed that John was able to stop Todd from killing Cole. John is amazed that Todd and Marty didn't have a major blowup at the bus station. Mike tells him that parents can set aside anger to do whatever it takes to protect their children. Michael says that Cole reminds him of John, and tells John to not overextend himself, even if he thinks that he's keeping his cool. He then asks John if John is sure he did the right thing with Natalie. John's convinced that he did do the right thing because he and Nat were fighting so much. John compares his situation with Cole and Starr, and thinks Cole did the wrong thing for the right reasons. Mike understands, and they head off to the locker room.

The manager tries to give Cole a hand, but Cole says he doesn't need any help. Cole then challenges the manager to a fight.

Meanwhile, at Llanfair, Viki comforts Natalie over her breakup with John after Nat tells Viki that she initiated the breakup. Viki tells her that it will take time for her to get over their breakup. She then tells Nat that she and Clint won't be getting back together. They comfort each other.

Natalie tells Viki that she thought everything would be okay between her and John because John told her he loves her. She then explains how she jumped to the wrong conclusion regarding the ring John was carrying. Nat wonders aloud if she and John would be married by now if he had never been in that accident. Viki tells her that she can't change the past and that she should just be concerned with taking care of herself. Viki says that Natalie can stay at Llanfair as long as she needs, and that they can keep each other occupied. Natalie asks that they not get too busy because she enjoys the peace and quiet.

Todd then barges into Llanfair looking for pots, pans, cookbooks, and Viki's help. Viki helps him find the recipes he needs to cook for Evangeline, but she refuses to help him cook so she can take care of Natalie. Nat then comes back from upstairs and wonders what Todd is planning. He tells her that he's trying to recreate Evangeline's favorite childhood memory. Natalie thinks that's sweet and offers to help him with his preparations. Todd's ecstatic about getting her help.

As Todd grabs some ingredients from Viki's fridge, Miles calls Todd to give him information about him missing son.

Jess pays her dad a visit and wants to know how he's going to make things up to Viki. She's totally not acting herself. Clint wants to prevent Viki from making a mistake and believes her actions mostly revolved around stopping him from being with Dorian, not pursuing him herself. She spoke out in public about a private matter and in fact, since it is private, he doesn't want to discuss it. Jess just remembers how wonderful things were when she was a kid though it didn't last. She and Antonio will have to make it last, Clint tells her. She mentions the adoption of Jamie who has finally had a stable life, but she feels like she's fighting it. What is wrong with her, that she has serious doubts? she asks. Clint reassures her and advises that it's a major decision but everyone screws up their kids. He suggests she talk to Antonio if she's afraid of failing. Jess changes her mind about her parents; she agrees that Viki was wrong in what she did.

Antonio has the adoption papers ready for Jess' signature but seems pre-occupied as he and Talia wait for Vincent at the station. He confides that his blended family will be a little more complicated than most. Vincent learns that he's no longer a suspect in the arsons and it turns out that Sean is familiar with the group attached to the medallion. He remembers his grandfather talking of them back in Chicago. The cops will call him. Vincent vows to find the white trash if Antonio doesn't. He also wants Sean's involvement kept quiet, which Antonio promises to do. Jess arrives to pick Antonio up for their date but since he'll be delayed, she agrees to meet with him at Capricorn. She can't sign the papers, she confesses, quickly noting that they need to have a celebration to go along with it. She can sign them at the club later then, Antonio agrees.

At the coffee shop, Marty tries to chat with Starr who really wants no part of her now that she and Cole have broken up. Marty assures her that she's not happy that they're miserable and she's sorry that things turned out as they did. Cole came to life with Starr and she is very grateful but they have no future. Starr tells her to shove it, that she and Cole are not like Todd and Marty. In fact, she continues, if she were Cole she'd wire her jaws shut. Nat saunters over and thinks there's a problem, telling Marty to leave Starr alone, that she loves her son and is trying to do the right thing. Evangeline is there too and stands up for Todd. He's only sorry that he got caught, Marty retorts. Todd is too protective of his children. Evangeline feels that both Todd and Marty are responsible for what happened. Marty feels it necessary to share some of the details of her rape. Evangeline insists that Todd is a changed man but Marty sees him as someone who always hurts the people who care about him. She warns Evangeline that she'll find out herself. Starr learns that Nat and John have broken up as well and that sometimes the problems are too big even if a couple is in love. She and Cole got along fine, Starr insists. It was her father who was the problem. Vincent and Sean come into the shop. Jones expresses sadness over Nat's breakup.

Curiosity has Todd showing up at Miles' suite for news of his son. Miles insists his letter from Spencer is real and that the boy is alive. The death certificate that Todd has could have been easily forged as well. He can provide Todd with a clue as to his whereabouts but he has to make sure that Todd is deserving; he doesn't want to see an innocent child hurt. Todd maintains that he's a good father and loves his children. Miles is trying to accept the fact that Spencer was not the person that he thought. After some back and forth over whether Todd is a good father or not, Miles finally hands over the part of the letter that he copied for Todd. The contents turn out to be disappointing but it might be enough.

Just as Cole is about to take a beating from his sparring partner, John steps in and breaks them apart. It appears that Cole might have a concussion but he doesn't want his mother to know; she's already freaking out over everything else, the boy confides. Do you have a death wish? John asks. He's at the boxing ring to prove he can handle Todd, Cole explains. Sometimes you can't do enough, John counters, agreeing to keep this incident a secret from Marty. They have a nice conversation; Cole explains that he can't do sports and will need several recommendations to play again. He also plays baseball. He only has school and his feelings as he must speak to a therapist as well. John offers to write one of the recommendations and suggests that Cole stop by the station to talk.

Nash drinks alone at Capricorn as Cris tends bar. He suggests that Nash go elsewhere since Jess isn't around. He's there for a paycheck, Nash replies. Cris is pretty rude and tells him that he doesn't want him around. He gets the check and warns him to watch his step. As Blair gets ready to perform, she's harassed by a drunk and things get rather loud. Cris steps in to help but Blair is already retrieving a glass to crack on the man's head. Unfortunately, the timing is off and Cris is the one to get clunked instead. Nash goes behind the bar to get some ice and towels and Jess is now there. She accidentally knocks a drink over onto the adoption papers. Nash looks it over and wonders why her signature isn't there.

Evangeline arrives at Todd's but there's no answer to her knock on the door. She remembers Marty's earlier words of advice and figures she should have listened. She turns around and leaves.

Dorian and Clint and Viki and Douglas played dueling daters at the Palace. Dorian was convinced that Douglas was a slimeball and after one thing — sex with Viki. Clint wanted Dorian to keep the focus on their date. Clint interrupted Viki's kissing session with Douglas and accused her of having had too much champagne. Viki was annoyed at everyone and went home.

Antonio, Talia and Nora heard about another house fire in Llanview, this time at 4910 King Street. "Our arsonist struck again," Antonio said. Fortunately, the fire was put out before anyone was killed. Moments later they learned that Sean's grandparents' house had burned to the ground. Vincent offered to help pay their doctor's bills and find them a place to live. A grateful Sean gave Vincent a big hug.

Evngeline walked in on Blair tending to Cris's bruised head. Bickering followed. Todd arrived with news that Todd Jr. might be alive. Blair thought Todd shouldn't believe what Spencer's letter to Miles said. Todd and Evangeline figured out that the baby might be in Chicago. Todd refused to take the letter to the police. Evangeline offered to accompany Todd to Chicago for the great baby hunt. Blair watched wistfully as the two left Capricorn.

Jessica told Nash that whether or not she adopts Jamie has nothing to do with him. "But it has everything to do with us," Nash replied. Nash declared his love for Jessica again, but she wouldn't budge. She was staying with Antonio. Cris demanded that Nash leave. Jessica told Cris to calm down and butt out. "I'm watching you," Cris said. Jessica and Nash went on to argue and argue. Jessica ended the argument by signing the adoption papers right in front of Nash. "There," she said, "that should prove I'm with Antonio."

While talking with Bo, Rex put Tate's photo up on a dart board and took aim, letting out his frustrations about the Tate-is-after-Adriana situation. Bo found a photo of Rex modeling ExPosed underwear. "Something you'd like to tell me, Balsom?" he asked.
