Brief Character History

Lucky was born in Texas to Luke and Laura Spencer. He spent the first ten years of his life, moving from place to place with his parents to get away from mobster Frank Smith, his father's enemy and former boss. While living in Canada, the threat to their family began again, so Luke and Laura told Lucky to head to Port Charles on his own; they would meet up with him later. Lucky made it to Port Charles safely, and Aunt Ruby hid him at Kelly's. However, Frank Smith's men found him there.

Lucky befriended a boy named Sly Eckert, who hid him in the city's catacombs. Luke and Laura found him there with his cousin, after Sly's father, Bill Eckert -- a dead ringer for Luke -- was mistaken for Luke and shot by Frank's men. A few months later, Lucky got shot when he followed his dad to a meeting with a henchman. Fortunately, Lucky made a full recovery. The Spencer family settled in Port Charles, and Lucky was quite happy with his life. He was thrilled when his new baby sister, Lulu, was born.

Lucky's happiness soon ended when he found out his mother had given birth to a son by Stavros Cassadine while the Cassadines had held her hostage before Lucky was born. Laura's other son, Nikolas, arrived in Port Charles with his Uncle Stefan and became the anonymous bone marrow donor for their baby sister, Lulu, saving her life. Lucky instantly disliked Nikolas, who was a rival for their mother's love and attention. This rivalry continued on another level, when Lucky had a crush on Sarah Webber, who was more interested in Nikolas.

Things changed for Lucky when he found Elizabeth Webber, Sarah's sister, in the park one night. Elizabeth was badly bruised, and her dress was ripped. Lucky rushed to her aid and called his Aunt Bobbie for help. Elizabeth told them that an unknown man had raped her in the park. Lucky started to feel protective of Elizabeth and promised to keep her safe. Lucky and Elizabeth worked together to try to find her rapist.

Lucky's world was rocked again when Nikolas blurted out during a fight with Lucky that Luke had raped Laura years earlier, before Luke and Laura were married. Lucky thought that Nikolas was lying but was shaken by the information. He confronted his father. Luke didn't deny that he had raped Laura and confessed to Lucky what had happened that night at the disco. Lucky was disgusted with his father and left the house. He refused to have anything to do with Luke and was angry with his mother for allowing his father to get away with it. Laura returned home and tried to explain her reasoning, but Lucky refused to accept it.

Lucky found a room above Jason Morgan's bike shop to rent in exchange for helping Jason at his shop. Lucky grew closer to Elizabeth during her ordeal, and they fell in love. Elizabeth helped Lucky to understand and forgive his parents for not being perfect. Lucky eventually forgave them but wanted to live on his own. Lucky and Liz made plans for the future. However, their plans were cut short when a fire broke out at Jason's bike shop one night. A body was found in Lucky's room upstairs with the necklace Lucky had given to Liz, leading everyone to believe that the body was Lucky. Actually, Lucky was alive and being held captive by Cesar Faison, who was an employee of Helena Cassadine.

For a year, everyone believed Lucky was dead. However, before Faison died in a boat explosion, he revealed to Luke that Lucky was alive. Luke investigated this and started finding clues to Lucky's true whereabouts. Helena led Luke and Laura down memory lane as she traveled with Lucky to the Haunted Star, Ice Princess Island, and Texas. Their last destination was in Canada: the Triple L Diner, where Luke, Laura, and Lucky had lived before returning to Port Charles. While there, Helena gave Lucky bus fare and turned him loose.

When Luke and Laura had figured out the last clues and arrived to get Lucky, he slugged Luke in the face and ran off. It turned out that during the time Lucky was held captive by Faison, Faison had started to program Lucky through mind control. Lucky was instructed under hypnosis to forget about his last days in Port Charles and focus on the disgust he felt for his parents, especially for Luke raping Laura. Lucky returned to Port Charles, but he was under Helena's control. Helena instructed him to push Elizabeth away and encourage her to be with Nikolas, because Nikolas was the one that loved her.

Elizabeth was suspicious of Lucky's behavior and did not believe him. So she continued to have contact with Lucky. Meanwhile, Helena continued to use Lucky to do things for her. Lucky's love for Elizabeth kept him from falling deeper under Helena's control and also kept Lucky from pushing Elizabeth totally away. During a conversation between Lucky and his friend, Emily Quartermaine, Emily accidentally spoke Helena's catch phrase for Lucky's programming, "protect your queen," and became the first person to actually witness Lucky's transformation.

Emily literally shook him out of the trance but told Lucky what happened to him every time she said that phrase. Finally, he realized that he was not himself and that Faison and Helena had programmed him. After Lucky had some initial reluctance, Elizabeth was able to convince him to see Dr. Kevin Collins. Dr. Kevin helped to break down the lower levels of the programming, which helped Lucky lose the anger towards his parents. He was able to admit he loved them and advised them that he was under Helena's control. Lucky then continued to fight Helena's control and rebel against her.

When Helena realized that the lower level of control had been broken, she resorted to a higher level involving the use of the Ice Princess diamond. She used the Ice Princess to hypnotize Lucky and instructed him to attack Jason Morgan, who Lucky felt was after Elizabeth romantically. Lucky attacked Jason with a knife on the docks, forcing Jason to defend himself by hitting Lucky several times to get the knife out of his hands. Elizabeth thought that Jason had attacked Lucky without cause. Lucky emerged from his trance and didn't remember attacking Jason or why he had done it. However, he told Liz that Jason had started beating on him for no reason.

Lucky had some more run-ins with Jason over Elizabeth. Helena gave Lucky a diamond ring -- the same ring that Stavros had given to Laura when she and Stavros were married -- to give to Elizabeth and instructed him to propose to her. Lucky complied. Later, Lucky had a run-in with Nikolas at General Hospital. They started fighting in the stairwell when Nikolas tried to persuade his brother to get help from Kevin again. Stefan interceded to protect Nikolas from Lucky. Instead, Lucky hit Stefan in the face and knocked him down a flight of stairs. Nikolas broke up the fight and tried to keep the two apart. Stefan pressed charges and had Lucky arrested for assault at the Port Charles Grill during Lucky's engagement party.

Realizing that Lucky was under Helena's control again, Luke and Laura tried to help Lucky by getting him to see Dr. Kevin once more. Kevin went to see Lucky in jail and tried to deprogram him but wasn't successful. Helena, dressed as a cleaning lady at the jail, put Lucky under her spell and instructed him to start a fire in his cell and escape. Lucky did what Helena asked and managed to escape but later didn't realize how or why. Elizabeth found him and convinced him to get help, telling him what he had done.

Helena later instructed Lucky to pour a vial of mysterious liquid in his cousin Lucas' drink at the Brownstone. Lucky did what she asked but then didn't remember doing it later on. After he learned that Lucas had been rushed to GH and was in a coma, Lucky felt uneasy and started to feel that he'd had something to do with it. He agreed to listen to Nikolas and Elizabeth. Lucky and Liz moved into Nikolas' house so that Nikolas and Liz could keep a better eye on him and keep him from being alone with Helena.

Lucky learned that he had a talent for photography. His cousin Carly recognized his talent and hired him to take pictures of Gia, his brother's girlfriend. Laura realized that Lucky's photos of Gia were very good and hired him to take pictures of Liz, who was offered a job at Deception as a model as well. However, Lucky was not immune to Helena. She managed to get him alone and put him under her control. He was told that he was one day going to have to get rid of his father and the rest of his family. Lucky resisted her control as much as he could, but it was too hard. After Lucky denied making a pass at Gia, Nikolas kicked him out of the cottage. Later on, Lucky spotted Nikolas and Elizabeth in conference several times. He told Elizabeth that she was better off with Nikolas.

Helena gave Lucky instructions, which led him to her secret lab underneath General Hospital. He found his father, Luke, there fighting with Stavros and Helena's men. Helena forced Lucky to inject Luke with a virus that would make Luke go crazy and render him useless as an opponent to the Cassadines. Lucky tried to resist and pleaded with Luke to forgive him then he injected his father with the virus. Later, Lucky went to Luke's apartment above the club and wallowed in the feeling that he had done something to hurt Luke. Liz showed up and immediately realized that Helena had gotten to him again.

Lucky realized that he couldn't control himself and broke the engagement off with Elizabeth. He told her to go to Nikolas and be with him. Liz left reluctantly. When Luke showed up alive at the apartment, Lucky asked Luke to help him fight Helena. But it had been days since Luke had been injected with the virus, so he was too out of it to be helpful to Lucky.

Suddenly, two goons broke into the apartment and took Lucky away, kicking and screaming. He recovered and found himself tied up in a chair in a strange room. As Elizabeth emerged, he told her to get out of there, but then he realized that she was the one who had orchestrated his kidnapping to keep him safe from Helena. Lucky was impressed by her and realized just how much she loved him. They kissed and made up, and Lucky agreed to stay put.

Still in the dark about how to trigger Lucky's programming, Nikolas took Helena to where "he" had stashed Lucky and told her to erase Lucky's memories of love for Elizabeth. While Elizabeth hid in a closet, Helena pulled out the Ice Princess and told Lucky to forget his love for Elizabeth. It worked, and Lucky pushed Elizabeth away. He behaved erratically in the weeks afterward and even pulled Gia into a kiss. Even though he couldn't remember the things Helena had made him do, Lucky still knew Helena and Stavros were his enemies.

Stavros, using the alias Lucien Kane, began sniffing around the newly single Gia. Lucky warned her to stay away from him, but she didn't listen. When she overheard Nikolas tell Helena that he would kill Elizabeth to prove himself to her, Gia tried to get Lucky to help her protect Elizabeth, but he refused. However, Lucky later showed up on the Cassadine yacht to accuse Helena of killing Chloe, Luke, and Elizabeth.

When Helena took several Port Charles residents hostage in her underground lab, she gathered all of the captives and revealed her secret weapon: Lucky. She told Lucky the secret trigger phrase, but nothing happened. So she pulled out the Ice Princess to get him to focus. But Helena didn't know that Lucky had managed to break through his programming by focusing on his love for Elizabeth. Fists started flying, and people started running. Lucky helped Stefan destroy the massive computer system before they fled from the lab. Everyone made it out of lab, and Helena was arrested. Lucky went to visit Helena in her cell to gloat over being free from her control and her new status as a jailbird. However the Spencers were flabbergasted to learn weeks later that there was barely any physical evidence to prove that her lab had ever existed.

Finally free of Helena, Lucky and Liz reunited. However, Helena's memory wipe of Lucky's love for Elizabeth was harder to shake than Lucky had anticipated. Feeling like he owed it to Elizabeth to make her happy, Lucky ignored his lack of love for Elizabeth and proposed to her. They planned a New Year's Eve wedding, but Gia told Liz that Lucky didn't love her anymore and the wedding never took place. They tried to start over and fall in love again, but it was slow going.

When Gia and Elizabeth were injured in a car wreck, Lucky stayed by Elizabeth's side at the hospital. Nikolas invited them to move into Wyndemere with Gia and him, and they agreed. Elizabeth's newly returned sister, Sarah, also moved in with them, and the sexual tension between Lucky and Sarah began to grow. Lucky was temporarily distracted by the fact that Nikolas secretly helped Helena escape to protect Gia's secret guilt in the car accident. Lucky declared a new Cassadine/Spencer war but agreed not to tell Elizabeth the truth regarding the accident. When she finally remembered what had happened, she severed her friendship with Nikolas and Gia and broke up with Lucky.

When the brothers briefly reunited to search for a presumed dead Carly, Nikolas tried to explain why he had helped Helena. But Lucky didn't want to hear it. Still wrapped up in his feelings for Sarah, Lucky was shocked to discover that Maxie wanted to take him to bed. He tried to let her down gently, but she felt humiliated despite his efforts. In retaliation, Maxie told Elizabeth that she had seen Sarah and Lucky headed towards his room. Elizabeth found them there in bed together and told them off for sneaking around behind her back. Lucky and Sarah tried to have a relationship in the open, but Sarah was jealous of Lucky's concern for Liz's safety. The last straw was when Lucky ran to Liz's side after she was involved in an explosion while being rescued from a crypt. Sarah broke up with Lucky and left town not long after.

Lucky went back to being a photographer for Deception. His parents had reunited and planned to have a wedding in late summer. As Laura planned the wedding, she began to have flashbacks of a night in the attic of her childhood home. Luke then poked around in the attic for clues and discovered an old camera with film still in it. He took it to his son, and Lucky was able to develop it. The first picture he developed was of a young Scott Baldwin covered in blood. While Luke pursued the new lead, Lucky managed to get another picture to develop. Before Lucky could discern what was in the photo, Luke realized what it was and took off in search of Laura.

When Luke and Laura didn't show up for their wedding, Lucky and Nikolas grew worried and went to the attic to search for clues. Instead, they found Rick Webber, Laura's stepfather, dead on the floor. Worried that Luke had killed him, they put Rick's body in his car, covered him in booze, and then pushed the car off a cliff to make it look like a drunk-driving accident. But Scott and Mac knew right away that it had been staged. Lucky was also haunted by what he had done to Rick's body. While the boys evaded being arrested, they worried about their mother and speculated about what had happened in the attic.

Lucky was relieved when Luke finally called, but Nikolas was worried for Laura's safety. Against Lucky's wishes, Nikolas told Scott the couple's whereabouts, but the couple had already left by the time police got there. Mac and Scott finally caught up to the couple when they returned to the attic. Lucky and Nikolas were devastated to learn that their mother had suffered a severe mental breakdown. They went to see her in the hospital, but she had retreated so far into herself that she believed she was still a teenager and didn't recognize them as her children. The boys said a tearful goodbye to Laura before she was committed to a mental institution.

Scott arrested Luke for Rick's death, and Lucky tried to get Luke to let Lucky break his father out of jail. However, Luke refused and had Nikolas help him instead. Lucky worried when his father disappeared for a while, especially when a copy of Luke's will arrived on his doorstep. Elizabeth and Lucky managed to find Luke working on a chain gang in the South and took him home, kicking and screaming. Lucky did his best to keep Luke out of trouble, but Luke was determined to punish himself for Laura's condition. Luke set fire to the police station and would have died if Lucky had not run in and saved him. Luke began seeing a therapist on Scott's order, and Lucky tried to get on with his life.

Luke met a beautiful blonde named Laura while enrolling in some college courses. They met on various occasions, and a friendship grew between them. He learned that she was a former high-priced call girl trying to make a fresh start. But a powerful former client wouldn't let go. He beat her and had her arrested. So Lucky blackmailed Scott into helping her dispose of the man.

After the incident, Lucky and Laura's friendship blossomed into something more, although it took her awhile to get used to being with a guy who didn't pay her. One day, Lucky saw Luke and "Laura" together. In turned out that Laura, whose professional name was Summer, was Luke's mystery blonde. Lucky got upset and believed that she'd been playing them both for suckers, hoping to gain financially from them. But they decided to keep Luke in the dark about knowing each other. When Scott discovered the truth, he gleefully told a shocked Luke.

Luke tried to get Lucky and Summer back together. However, they still had problems, and Summer returned to being a call girl. Lucky later discovered that Nikolas had hired Summer to distract Luke from trying to find their mother. Lucky told Luke and confronted Nikolas. Summer told Luke that Nikolas had blackmailed her into portraying a look-alike Laura, but she had met Lucky by mistake. Lucky, Luke, and Summer then embarked on an adventure to locate Summer's brother, Matt. When they found him, he revealed he wasn't Summer's brother, before dying from a stab wound.

Summer confirmed that she was only looking for Matt, her ex-boyfriend, so that he would tell her where the money he had stolen from the Cassadines was hidden. They got arrested for Matt's murder, and Nikolas showed up to bail them out, although Luke refused to leave with them. Their adventure ended in a tunnel underneath an old Cassadine estate in Russia, where the money was supposed to be buried. But the money had been replaced by worthless coins, so they returned to Port Charles empty-handed.

Back in Port Charles, Summer finally admitted she loved Lucky, and she became a waitress at Kelly's so she could move into the room across from his. When Lucky went to see his mother at the mental institution, Summer went with him. Luke blamed Lucky for giving Nikolas complete control over Laura's medical treatment and got into a physical fight with Lucky over it. Summer knocked Luke out to end the altercation, but Luke later showed up at Lucky's after being given drugs at the hospital. He was delusional and believed Summer was Laura. She went along with it, but when Lucky showed up, Luke ran away. Later Summer helped Lucky trick Luke into being committed to a mental hospital.

At Nikolas and Emily's engagement party at Wyndemere, Summer was walking out on the bluffs in the heavy fog when she was pushed from behind. Nikolas and Lucky rushed to the bottom and discovered that the fall had killed her. Lucky was devastated and vowed to find the person responsible. When Luke showed up at the party, Lucky attacked a shocked Luke and accused him of being responsible for Summer's death. Alexis theorized that Luke hadn't done it and that Emily was the intended victim, since she had also been out there that evening. However, no one else believed that Luke was innocent. Lucky later learned that one of the servants on the island that night had since disappeared, and he believed that servant was the one who had pushed Summer off the cliff.

Believing Stefan was responsible for Summer's death, Lucky tried to urge Mac to work harder in finding evidence to arrest him. But Mac told Lucky to back off or become a cop and look into the case himself. So Lucky went to the academy and became a cop. He worked with Nikolas' new bride, Lydia, to secretly tape Stefan discussing how he had hired Darius to push Emily off the cliff, but Darius had pushed the wrong girl. The tape got Stefan arrested, but it didn't keep him in jail.

Luke returned to town, extremely unhappy to hear that Lucky had become a cop. Luke then served his own brand of justice to Stefan by kidnapping him and holding a mock trial that he broadcasted on television. Lucky was later forced to arrest Luke after Luke fought with Stefan and Stefan wound up with a knife in the chest. Luke managed to escape, and Lucky tracked him to Skye's lake house. Skye knocked Lucky out to keep Luke hidden. The charges against Luke were later dropped when Nikolas discovered a suicide note left behind by Stefan. Luke was free, but the rift between father and son still existed. They had a brief moment of closeness around the holidays, but Luke continued to live his life apart from his son.

Lucky had a hard time adjusting to being a cop. He was investigated and later cleared after he shot Dillon Quartermaine following an altercation between Sage and Alexis. When Sonny barricaded himself in the penthouse after trying to kill Alcazar in front of several witnesses, Lucky tried to behave like a cop but ended up helping a wounded Sonny and a hysterical Carly out of the building. When the body of Cody McCall was found in the tunnels of Wyndemere, Ric had Nikolas arrested for murder. Lucky pushed hard to get Ric to find the real killer, even when Ric pulled him off the case. Lucky suspected Ric of having an ulterior motive for getting Nikolas convicted, and after he realized that Zander was actually pulling Ric's strings, Lucky conferred with Nikolas on how to go after Zander and Ric for trying to frame Nikolas. Nikolas was later cleared of all charges, and Lucky became involved in the hunt for Zander, who was named as the one who had shot Detective Beck during a shootout with mob members.

The Quartermaines and Cassadines auctioned off the treasure from the sunken ship, and Lucky showed up as extra security during the event. But the treasure was stolen anyways. While Lucky detained all the patrons for questioning, news reached the room that a fire had broken out in the basement of the hotel. Lucky then helped coordinate the rescue efforts. While trying to find a way out with Luke, Lucky was nearly killed by a falling beam. But Cameron Lewis, Luke's therapist, pushed Lucky out of the way and died instead.

Nearly everyone was evacuated, but others were missing, including Nikolas. Lucky and Emily feared the worst, but Nikolas showed up alive a few days later. A body found in the room where the fire had broken out was identified as Zander, but the autopsy showed he had been dead before the fire consumed his body. Elizabeth finally admitted to a confrontation with Zander that had ended in her knocking him out, making her the murderer. As Lucky, Emily, Nikolas, and Ric vowed to cover up Elizabeth's involvement, evidence began to surface that Zander was really alive. Zander emerged from hiding and took Emily hostage in an effort to force her to love him again. Lucky tried to negotiate with Zander to release Emily, and Zander eventually agreed.

As Emily and Zander walked out of the cottage, Zander made a threatening move, and the cops opened fire on him. Zander died in Emily's arms. Nikolas, who was on the way home from a cancelled business trip, ran his car off the road after hearing that Zander had taken Emily hostage. Lucky and Emily worked hard to search for him. But after a few weeks, they were forced to conclude that Nikolas had drowned in a nearby river. Lucky tried to comfort Emily and supported her while she grieved and planned a memorial. At the memorial, Lucky watched as Helena cursed everyone in the room for Nikolas's death and then Luke got up to stop her. Lucky and Emily began to grow close again as Emily leaned on him during her grief for Nikolas and for a sick Michael.

Emily took Lucky on a trip to Los Rocas that she and Nikolas had planned to take. Emily and Lucky shared a kiss, but they each pulled away and their relationship remained platonic. Emily discovered Nikolas had survived the car accident but had suffered memory loss. A woman named Mary Bishop had found Nikolas and convinced him he was her husband Connor. When Nikolas started to bond with Emily, his grandmother Helena had gotten him committed to Shadybrook to keep Emily and Nikolas apart. Lucky and Emily worked together to rescue Nikolas. Then Helena and Tracy Quartermaine framed Emily for the murder of Mary Bishop. Lucky stood by Emily and helped prove her innocence.

Emily and Nikolas reunited and were married. Helena framed Nikolas for her murder, and Nikolas was sent to prison. Lucky devised a plan to lure Helena out of hiding to prove she was alive. Helena did return to town, and she went after Emily and shot at her. Lucky jumped in front of Emily and took the bullet instead. Lucky suffered a stroke and was placed on life support. Both Emily and Liz remained by his side.

Against the wishes of Lucky's family and friends, Luke went to court and obtained legal permission to remove Lucky from life support. Luke turned off the machine, and Lucky began breathing on his own. When Lucky awoke, Emily was by his side. Lucky was angry at Luke for giving up on him. Lucky moved into Wyndemere with Emily to recover from his injuries.

Liz and Lucky reunited and moved back in together. They faced financial struggles, which prompted Lucky to steal money from Sonny Corinthos. Liz convinced him to turn the money in to the police department anonymously before anyone found out. Liz found a different way to deal with their financial difficulties. She agreed to carry a child for Jax and Courtney despite Lucky's protests. Since Courtney's eggs were not viable, Liz had to use her own egg.

Lucky and Liz became engaged, although Jax was not pleased with their announcement. Jax was concerned Lucky would have a legal claim to the child if he were married to Liz when the baby was born. Lucky was bothered by Jax's interference in Lucky's relationship with Liz and by Jax's displays of wealth. Liz and Lucky fought often about Jax and the pregnancy until Lucky moved out.

A fire broke out in Liz's apartment shortly after Lucky moved out. Jax rescued Liz and Cameron, and they moved in with Jax and Courtney. When the affair between Courtney and Nikolas was revealed, Liz and Jax decided to share custody of the child. Lucky was uncomfortable with the permanent connection forming between Liz and Jax, but the custody arrangement did not matter in the end. Liz suffered a miscarriage.

Even though Lucky was furious with Nikolas for hurting Emily by having an affair, Lucky and Liz allowed Emily and Nikolas to plan their wedding. Liz and Lucky hoped the time together would reunite Nikolas and Emily. Liz and Lucky were married at Wyndemere and then boarded a train. They planned to honeymoon in New York. Tragedy struck when two train cars collided, and part of the tunnel collapsed. Lucky was severely injured and was in critical condition when Luke, Nikolas, and Jax rescued him. Lucky recovered, but the cost of his medical care caused Lucky and Liz to begin their married life together with financial difficulties. Although Nikolas offered to pay Lucky's bills, Lucky refused the help. Lucky wanted to provide for Liz and Cameron on his own.

A criminal named Manny Ruiz took Liz hostage soon after Lucky returned to work. Lucky tried to rescue Liz from Manny and injured his back. Lucky became addicted to pain medication, which caused personality changes. Lucky became argumentative and paranoid. He accused Liz of cheating on him with Patrick Drake. When Lucky was no longer able to renew his prescription, Maxie Jones stole a doctor's prescription pad to provide Lucky with more pills. Lucky became more convinced than ever that Liz was sleeping with Patrick.

Lucky's dependency on drugs became more serious. Lucky arrested someone with painkillers and kept the drugs instead of turning them in. He also kissed Maxie. When pills went missing at the hospital, Patrick suspected Lucky was involved, but Liz defended him. Lucky was on drugs during a confrontation with Manny Ruiz. Lucky was credited with shooting Manny and named a hero, but Jason had actually killed Manny.

When Lucky discovered Jason was the real hero, he increased his drug use and had sex with Maxie. Lucky regretted what he had done and decided to make his marriage work. He went to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting. Unbeknownst to him, Liz slept with Jason after she saw Lucky and Maxie together.

Lucky refused to do inpatient treatment and chose to fight the addiction on his own. When Lucky found out his sister Lulu was pregnant and planned to have an abortion, he used it as a reason to return to pills. Lucky promised Maxie he would leave Liz soon as long as Maxie continued to supply him with pills. Liz decided to leave Lucky. When Lucky returned home and found Liz packing, he grabbed her and shoved her to the floor.

Maxie pretended to overdose to get Lucky's attention. He took her for medical treatment and then ended things with her. Maxie told her father, the police commissioner, about their affair, and Lucky was fired. In an attempt to save his job, Lucky tried to frame Jason. Lucky's plan went wrong, and Liz was almost hurt. Liz screamed at Lucky for his carelessness and announced that she was pregnant.

The news of his impending fatherhood prompted Lucky to check into rehab. Despite his sobriety, Liz still planned to divorce him. Lucky tried to convince her to give him another chance. Liz pulled farther away from Lucky when Maxie told Lucky she was also pregnant with his child.

Lucky was able to receive support and encouragement to battle his addiction from his mother. Luke allowed Laura to be given an experimental drug, and she temporarily emerged from her catatonic state. Lucky's time with his mother was brief, but Laura told Lucky she was proud of him for facing his addiction. Lucky celebrated an early Christmas with his family before Laura returned to Shadybrook.

Liz's ex-husband, Ric Lansing, was the District Attorney, and he helped Lucky be reinstated at the police force. Shortly after his reinstatement, drugs were found in Lucky's desk drawer. Lucky swore they were not his, but Liz doubted him. Later, Ric admitted that he had planted the drugs to break Liz and Lucky apart. Ric hoped Liz would give him another chance at a relationship, but she refused.

Liz began to doubt Maxie's pregnancy claim, and Lucky questioned why Maxie had not been keeping her prenatal appointments. Maxie and Lucky argued about the pregnancy, and during the argument, Maxie fell and suffered a miscarriage. Lucky and Maxie grew closer as they bonded over the loss. Lucky later learned Maxie had never been pregnant.

Lucky and Liz spent more time together as Lucky remained sober. Lucky proposed to Liz, and she agreed to think about it. Liz was a hostage when the Metro Court Hotel was taken over by Mr. Craig, who was later revealed to be Jerry Jacks. Lucky was trapped outside and frantically tried to get inside to rescue Liz. He risked his life, trying to save her and their unborn child. Liz survived the ordeal, and she agreed to marry Lucky. They moved into Lucky's childhood home, and they were married shortly after. They did not consummate their marriage, which Liz said was due to her pregnancy.

During a storm when the phone lines were down and the power was out, Liz went into labor alone at home. Jason rescued her and took her to the hospital. Liz wanted to name the child Jacob Martin after her grandfather, and Lucky agreed. Jason checked on Liz and Jake often while they were in the hospital. At first Lucky was grateful to Jason for taking Liz to the hospital in time. Soon after Liz and Jake were released from the hospital, Lucky was forced to arrest Jason for the murder of Lorenzo Alcazar. Liz defended Jason and was upset with Lucky for arresting him. Lucky told Liz he did not want Jason around their child.

Jake was kidnapped when he was at the park with Liz and Cameron. Lucky blamed Liz for not watching Jake closely, and Liz turned to Jason for emotional support. Jason rescued Jake, which made Lucky jealous, so Lucky had Jason arrested for jumping bail. Liz was angry at Lucky and used his police badge to visit Jason in jail. Lucky confronted Liz and asked if she was in love with Jason.

Liz was called to testify at Jason's trial, and under oath she admitted that she and Jason had slept together once. When asked about Jake's paternity, she stated that Lucky was Jake's father. Lucky was torn apart over Liz's admission in court, and Jason's ex-girlfriend Sam McCall led Lucky to believe Jason and Liz had carried on an affair beyond one night. Sam hired Lucky to be her bodyguard. Lucky tried to work things out with Liz, but when Liz refused to be intimate with him, he turned to Sam.

Lucky and Liz decided to divorce, and Liz moved out. Lucky hired Alexis Davis to be his lawyer and he planned to go after full custody of the boys. Lucky learned he was not Jake's father at the black and white ball Nikolas hosted, but he agreed to remain Jake's legal father to protect him from the danger associated with Jason's life. Liz and Lucky set aside their custody disagreements when the Text Message Killer strangled Emily at the ball. They grieved for Emily and took care of Nikolas.

Even though their relationship had begun as a means to hurt their ex-lovers, Lucky and Sam continued to see one another. Lucky moved in with Sam when the Text Message Killer targeted her. Lucky broke up with Sam when he learned she had been behind Jake's kidnapping. Sam wanted to punish Jason and Liz for lying about Jake's paternity. Lucky reunited with Sam when a car struck her while Diego Alcazar, the Text Message Killer, was chasing her.

Sam recovered, and Lucky worked with her to investigate the counterfeit drugs that were appearing in Port Charles. Sam worked for Andrei Karpov, a dangerous Russian drug smuggler, but it did not lead to any answers. Against Lucky's wishes, Sam seduced Jerry Jacks in an attempt to get information from him, but she was arrested instead. Lucky arranged for Nikolas to bail her out, and then Lucky went away to reconsider his relationship with Sam.

The couple reconciled, but Lucky was frustrated with Sam's continued pursuit of danger. Sam was injured during an altercation with one of Karpov's associates and trapped in a mineshaft. Jason rescued Sam and she was taken to the hospital. Lucky heard Sam call out for Jason as she awakened, but Lucky remained with Sam. He did not like Sam's decision to become a private investigator. He wanted her to pursue a less dangerous career. Lucky and Sam ended their relationship as friends when Liz was trapped in the hospital during the release of a deadly bio-toxin. Almost losing Liz helped Lucky realize how much he still loved her.

During the hospital bio-toxin crisis, Nikolas met a woman that looked like Emily. She was Emily's twin sister, although they had been separated at birth. Her name was Rebecca Shaw, and Lucky became friends with her. He went on a few dates with Rebecca even though it upset Nikolas. Rebecca and Lucky almost slept together, but he could not go through with it. Liz was jealous of Lucky's relationship with Rebecca, and Liz realized she still cared for Lucky. Liz and Lucky began to date again.

Luke hired a con man named Ethan Lovett to work at the Haunted Star. Lucky despised Ethan and was jealous of the closeness and similarities between Luke and Ethan. Lucky felt Ethan had replaced him in Luke's life. These feelings became stronger when Ethan was revealed to be Luke's son with Holly Sutton. Liz helped Lucky adjust to his new sibling.

Ethan and Lucky bonded over their agreement that Lulu should not date Dominic, a man that worked for Sonny. When Liz and Lucky became suspicious of Rebecca's intentions toward Nikolas, Ethan shared his connection to Rebecca. Ethan admitted to Lucky that he and Rebecca were working together to con Nikolas and the Quartermaine family by using Rebecca's connection to Emily. When Rebecca's intentions toward Nikolas were revealed, Rebecca tried to lean on Lucky, but he wanted nothing to do with her.

Lucky proposed to Liz when Jake suffered minor injuries at the hospital carnival. Andrea Floyd had spiked Edward Quartermaine's drink with digitalis, which caused Edward to crash his car through the carnival. Liz accepted the proposal, although she pulled away from intimacy and seemed distant. Lucky assumed she was not ready to get married. Luke warned Lucky to reconsider marrying Liz again.

The warning Luke gave Lucky made sense when Lucky overhead Nikolas profess his love to Liz. Lucky assumed Liz did not feel the same way until Lucky spied on Liz and discovered that she and Nikolas were sleeping together. Lucky turned to alcohol and announced her affair to hospital staff. Lucky found Liz collapsed at the church where they had exchanged their vows as teenagers. Lucky took her to the hospital, where it was revealed that Liz was pregnant. Lucky sobered up and stopped drinking. Liz was not sure if Lucky or Nik was the father of her child until a paternity test declared it was Nikolas. Two paternity tests were run in case Helena interfered.

Maxie helped Lucky deal with the disappointment of the paternity news. Liz pushed Nikolas away and regretted hurting Lucky. Throughout the pregnancy, Liz wished Lucky was the baby's father, and Liz tried to make amends to Lucky. She delivered a baby boy and she named him Aiden. Shortly after he was born, deranged artist named Franco kidnapped Aiden from the hospital. Lucky rescued the baby and felt a strong connection to the child.

Lucky felt he needed a change, so he went undercover working for a European mobster named the Balkan. Lucky posed as a man named Ronan O'Reilly, and he met a woman named Siobhan McKenna in Ireland. She doubted Lucky was Ronan, and she learned she was correct when she overheard Lulu and Dante talking to Lucky. He worried Siobhan would blow his cover. Luke visited Lucky in an Irish prison when Lucky was accused of killing two of the Balkan's men. Lucky took Luke's advice, which was to seduce Siobhan into keeping his identity secret. When Lucky left Ireland, Siobhan joined him in Port Charles.

Jason and Lucky teamed up when they realized they were both after the Balkan. Jason's ex-wife, Brenda Barrett, was the Balkan's target because she had killed the Balkan's son. The Balkan discovered Ronan was Lucky, and Siobhan was kidnapped. When she was released, Lucky admitted he had real feelings for her. Jason found discrepancies in Siobhan's retelling of her kidnapping and questioned Lucky regarding Siobhan's involvement in finding the Balkan. Lucky noticed Siobhan received mysterious phone calls and set a trap for her. Siobhan fell for it, and Lucky realized she worked for the Balkan.

When Siobhan explained she had been forced to work for the Balkan after her sister was kidnapped, Lucky decided to trust her. She claimed she did really care for lucky. They went to Ireland to rescue her sister and walked right into a trap. Siobhan, her sister, and Lucky escaped. Lucky convinced Siobhan to return to the United States with him. Upon Siobhan's return to Port Charles, she faced immigration problems.

Lucky decided to marry Siobhan so she could remain in the country. They went to a justice of the peace to be married and had planned for Luke to be their witness. The ceremony was interrupted before the exchange of vows. Liz called to tell Lucky that Jake had been hit by a car and was in serious condition. Jake died, and his kidneys were donated to Josslyn Jacks, Carly's daughter.

Luke had been the driver of the car that killed Jake. Lucky confronted Luke about his drinking. Lucky believed if Luke had been sober, he would have seen Jake and reacted in time. Luke disagreed and continued to drink while Lucky grieved. Ethan and Lucky held an intervention for Luke, but Luke refused to admit his drinking was a problem.

A justice of the peace married Siobhan and Lucky while Luke checked into rehab briefly. Luke used the cover of rehab to skip out of town. Siobhan and Lucky found Luke at the brothel in Florida where he had grown up. Luke pushed Lucky away again, and Lucky lashed out by setting fire to the Spencer house. Siobhan went in to rescue Lucky when she saw the house on fire. Lucky and his partner Dante heard her screaming and pulled her out.

While Siobhan recovered from surgery, Lucky went to the Haunted Star and poured a drink. Elizabeth stopped him from drinking when she told Lucky he was Aiden's father. Elizabeth explained she had ordered another paternity test on Aiden because he looked more like Lucky each day. When Siobhan woke up from her surgery, Lucky broke the news he had a son. Siobhan admitted to Lucky that she already knew he was Aiden's father. Siobhan had seen the paternity test results at Elizabeth's house but had not shared Elizabeth's secret.

Although Siobhan made a full recovery after her surgery, it was revealed that Elizabeth had given her the wrong medication in the operating room. Siobhan filed a lawsuit against Elizabeth and informed Lucky that his ex-wife had tried to kill her. Lucky defended Elizabeth and explained that Jake's death had distracted her. He convinced Siobhan to drop the lawsuit but he was not able to convince her that Elizabeth was not trying to break apart their marriage.

Lucky's marriage remained strained as he spent more time at Elizabeth's home getting to know Aiden. He also took on a new case at work which involved an investigation into the hospital's missing prescription drugs. Siobhan begged Lucky not to take the case because she believed the close proximity to the drugs would threaten Lucky's sobriety. He viewed Siobhan's concern as a lack of trust in him. Lucky ignored Siobhan's wishes and accepted the case. He asked Elizabeth to aid him with his investigation.

Lucky remained sober until a drug dealer injected him with drugs that caused him to hallucinate. While under the influence of the drugs, Lucky relived his times with Elizabeth, including the vows they said years ago in the abandoned church. He made his way to the church and Elizabeth found him and cared for him.

After Lucky recovered, Elizabeth gave him the news that Siobhan had been hospitalized and required surgery. She explained that she and Siobhan had argued and Siobhan had fallen down a flight of stairs. Elizabeth had convinced Siobhan to visit the hospital as a precaution. As they drove, Siobhan passed out and Elizabeth took her eyes off the road. They were involved an accident and Siobhan was thrown from the car. Lucky played a voicemail Siobhan had left him in which she told Lucky she had a lead on his drug investigation and that she loved him. Lucky raced to the hospital and visited his unconscious wife. He left to investigate a lead on his case and was not present when Siobhan briefly regained consciousness. She died shortly after.

The circumstances surrounding Siobhan's death were suspicious and an autopsy was ordered. It revealed she had not died of natural causes. Lucky found a pillow in Siobhan's hospital room that had the start of a message written on it. The police believed someone had murdered Siobhan to keep her from revealing what she knew about the drug ring. Lucky vowed to bring Siobhan's killer to justice and he turned to pills to deal with the pain of losing his wife so soon after losing Jake. His pain and guilt were enhanced when Siobhan's sister arrived to claim the body and blamed Lucky for Siobhan's death.

Although Lucky wanted to be a part of the investigation into the drug ring, his addiction forced him to make a different choice. He turned in his badge and took a leave of absence from the police department. Lucky intended to use the time to grieve for his wife and for Jake and to regain control of his addiction. He went through Siobhan's things and found a letter that she had written to him. The letter instructed Lucky to head to a church in Ireland and to look for signs. He decided to follow the instructions Siobhan had left him.

Before Lucky left for Ireland, he visited his sons and informed Elizabeth that they would be no reunion between them. Elizabeth insisted they could be a family once again but Lucky did not agree. He told Elizabeth they were a dangerous addiction for one another and could never be truly happy together.

In Ireland, Lucky found the inn and the church that Siobhan had described and he received mysterious messages written in rocks and heard a voice telling him to return home. Lucky believed he was hearing Jake's voice and wondered why Jake was instructing him to go home. He remained confused until he was visited by Siobhan's ghost. She explained that Lucky needed to return home because Aiden was sick. Lucky boarded a plane for Port Charles and instructed his father to take Aiden to the hospital immediately.

When Lucky arrived at the hospital, he learned that Aiden had been in need of immediate medical attention and had received treatment that saved his life. Elizabeth was grateful Lucky had saved Aiden and again asked him to give their family and their relationship another chance. He declined again and informed Elizabeth that he would be returning to Ireland soon. Elizabeth was frustrated with Lucky's rejection and she checked herself into Shadybrook. Lucky visited her there and urged Elizabeth to return home so they could celebrate Christmas as a family.

Elizabeth and Lucky spent time with their children but Lucky continually reminded Elizabeth they were not going to be together. He made plans to return to Ireland and said goodbye to his sons. In Ireland, he returned to the church and questioned why Aiden was able to be saved but Jake was not. He spoke to someone and asked if they were going to help him restore his faith or destroy it.
