Kristen Alderson returns to General Hospital, but only for a visit

Fans were super excited to see photos of Kristen Alderson back at the General Hospital studios, but the actress says she (sadly) wasn't filming scenes.

Legions of daytime fans would love -- we repeat love -- to see Kristen Alderson return to soap operas. So when the actress recently posted photos of herself back at General Hospital, where she used to play Kiki Jerome as well as her former One Life to Live character Starr Manning, excitement went through the roof. Could she actually be coming back to Port Charles as one of those characters?!

Looking a little closer at the caption of Alderson's Instagram post, it turns out that the fan-favorite actress was just back to GH for a little friendly visit. "Throwback to last week when I made a super quick trip to visit @britt_underwood [ex-Langston Wilde, OLTL] in LA. Got to visit my old job & catch up with Frank ([Valentini] my boss of many many years)," she wrote.

Knowing that a post like the one she shared would get major attention from soap fans, Alderson had the foresight to add an aside about her status with the ABC soap: "No, I didn't film anything," she wrote with a winky face emoji. (Editor's note: We would have used a crying emoji because that news is just sad, sad, sad.)

In addition to a photo of her back at the GH studios, Alderson's Instagram post included lots of love for Brittany Underwood, who starred on OLTL from 2006 to 2012. "I'm so grateful to have @britt_underwood in my life," she shared. "We managed to squeeze in 4 days of laughter & good times."

Alderson stepped into the role of One Life to Live character Starr Manning in 1998, when she was just six years old. After OLTL was canceled in 2011, the actress took the character to its sister soap, GH. However, Alderson's days as Starr were numbered: ABC lost its rights to all OLTL characters in a battle with Prospect Park, prompting the writers to force Starr out of town after the character's lover and daughter were killed in a car accident.

GH kept Alderson on in the newly created role of Kiki Jerome, but the actress chose to leave daytime in 2015, with the soap casting Hayley Erin as her replacement. Erin has since left the daytime series, which leaves the door open for Alderson to make a return as Kiki (if she were to be resurrected from the dead, as the character died when Erin left the role). But then again, ABC has since regained its rights to One Life to Live characters, meaning Alderson could reprise the role of Starr, as well. How can soap fans not dream of an Alderson return when there are so many possibilities?!

As it stands, Alderson hasn't given any indication that she'd like to return to soap operas and has kept herself busy with other projects. Since leaving GH, she has appeared in the Off-Broadway play The Marvelous Wonderettes and the television series Mélange. She was also cast in a major role for the film The Glorious Resurrection of Claire Owens, which co-stars Guiding Light alum Michael O'Leary (ex-Dr. Rick Bauer).
