A lot of exciting things happened during this year's Super Bowl, but the one that has soap opera fans buzzing is a surprise appearance by General Hospital star Kathleen Gati (Liesl Obrecht).
Eagle-eyed viewers who tuned in to the advertisements during the super popular sports program may have spotted the Canadian actress in a Toyota commercial. The ad features several religious leaders putting aside their differences, hopping into a Toyota truck and cruising to a football game, where the slogan "We're all one team" tops off a scene of the spiritual enthusiasts cheering in the crowd. Gati is seen as one of the nuns who the Toyota group joins at the game.
"So excited that my #Toyota spot ran during #SuperBowl," Gati wrote on Facebook, confirming her appearance.
Devout GH fans likely recognize the irony of Gati playing a nun. Her Port Charles alter ego isn't exactly saintly; Dr. Obrecht's list of atrocities includes kidnapping, poisoning, impersonation, and attempted murder -- just to name a few!
Gati joined GH as devious Dr. Obrecht in 2012. In between major Port Charles stories, she has kept herself busy with acting jobs on shows like Arrow, Fear of the Walking Dead: Flight 462, and Being Mary Jane.
Gati is the second soap opera star to appear in a Super Bowl commercial in recent years. In 2011, Max Page (ex-Reed Hellstron, The Young and the Restless) stole the show when he played a pint-sized Darth Vader in a Volkswagen commercial.
