Former One Life to Live star James DePaiva (ex-Max Holden) is scheduled to hit the General Hospital canvas next month, but fans shouldn't expect him to resurrect his first Port Charles alter ego, Eddie Holton. It turns out the actor will be playing a brand new doctor in town.
GH co-head writer Shelly Altman told Soap Opera Digest, “We are introducing Jimmy DePaiva as a new doctor in the hospital -- well, new to us, anyway! And we are very happy to have him.”
DePaiva's GH co-star, Wally Kurth (Ned Ashton; Justin Kiriakis, Days of our Lives), is also quite happy to have the actor on board at the ABC soap as a medical man.
“I was shocked when I saw him walking around in a doctor's coat [at the studio], but it was great to see him,” Kurth says. “I told him, ‘It's General Hospital -- we need some doctors. I hope you stay!”
As fans may recall, news first broke that DePaiva had joined GH in a "top secret" role earlier this month when executive producer Frank Valentini released a video of the actor hanging out at the soap's fictional hospital. At the time, rumors buzzed that he was either going to resume the role of Llanview's Max now that ABC has the rights to OLTL again, or he would be resurrecting his 1985 GH role as Greenhouse waiter Eddie Holton.
What do you think about DePaiva's role on GH? Do you hope he'll be resurrecting OLTL's Max? Do you think GH needs a new doctor? How would you like to see DePaiva incorporated onto the canvas? We want to hear from you -- and there are many ways you can share your thoughts.
