General Hospital fans can look forward to kicking off 2017 with a bang because actress Tonja Walker is returning to Port Charles. The ABC soap has confirmed that the West Virginia native is heading back to the canvas early next year but remains tightlipped as to which character she'll play.
While fans debate whether she'll be stepping back into the role of her former PC alter ego, Olivia Jerome, playing a brand new character, or perhaps even reprising her former One Life to Live character, Alex Olanov, now that ABC has regained the rights to OLTL and its sister soap, All My Children, Walker opened up about what it means to return to the soap she called home from 1988 to 1990.
"I am so moved and quite frankly amazed, at the fans for keeping hope alive for the characters I've played for all of these years. It means so much to me, their desire to see these characters again, and of course I loved these characters, too," Walker told Soap Hub. "I am feeling over the moon -- to be working again with this all-star cast, crew and production team."
As for what the powers that be have in store for Walker, the actress admits she doesn't know much more than the fans. And she's also keeping mum about what character she'll be playing once she debuts in early 2017.
"Honestly, I only know part of the story at the present time. But from what I have seen, it's going to be fantastic," she teases. "I am honored and grateful to [executive producer] Frank Valentini and his writers, Jean Passanante and Shelley Altman, for the chance to be in front of an audience. And I do love this audience!"
