GH alum Rick Springfield joins Supernatural in truly devilish role

General Hospital alum Rick Springfield (ex-Noah Drake) is heading to Supernatural in the role of a lifetime -- or rather after lifetime.

General Hospital alum Rick Springfield (ex-Noah Drake) is pure heaven when he's singing, but he'll be the exact opposite in his new gig.

The New Jersey native tweeted that he has joined season 12 of the hit primetime series Supernatural as Lucifer -- the devil himself.

And he's not the only one quick to announce the exciting news.

"Rick Springfield is going to be the new Satan," series star Richard Speight Jr. (Gabriel) divulged during the show's CW Comic-Con panel on Sunday, with co-executive producer Robert Singer adding that the character will immediately be searching for a new soul to take on during the first few episodes of the season. "The fist vessel that [Lucifer] feels comfortable with is a rock star who's a little bit on the down side who's trying to come back," he teased.

As for why Singer and co-executive producer Andrew Dabb chose Springfield for the role, they explained they wanted a rock star who could act. And anyone who's seen Springfield on GH or in Ricki and the Flash, True Detective, Californication, or the countless other projects he's been in knows that the singer definitely fits the bill.

Watch for Springfield's debut and the season 12 premiere of the CW's Supernatural on Thursday, October 13, at 9PM.
