Ava's mother is headed back to General Hospital's storylines. Two-time Daytime Emmy nominee Ilene Kristen is set to reprise the role of Delia later this winter.
Daytime favorite Ilene Kristen is returning to General Hospital. The actress will reprise the role of Ava's mother, Delia, in February.

"Okay tis true I'm going to be shooting General Hospital this week," Kristen confirmed on Twitter. "[T]hank you one and all for your ongoing SUPPORT!"

Kristen first reprised her Ryan's Hope role on GH back in October 2013 -- and Ryan's Hope fans lit up the soapcentral.com message boards with their excitement. It marked the first time that the actress had appeared as Delia since 1989 when the show ended its run on ABC. Kristen had previously appeared in the role on Ryan's Hope from 1975 to 1978, 1982 to 1983, and then again from 1986 through 1989.

"Ilene did a fantastic job and Delia is an important character," General Hospital's executive producer, Frank Valentini, told Soap Opera Digest. "I think her return will show viewers another side to Ava."

Maura West (Ava Jerome), who plays Kristen's on-screen daughter, also admits wanting to see their mother/daughter relationship "fleshed out."

In addition to her work on Ryan's Hope, Ilene Kristen played prominently on another ABC soap -- twice. Kristen appeared as Georgina Whitman on One Life to Live in 1982. 19 years later, she was hired for the role of Roxy Balsom. Kristen remained as OLTL's Roxy from 2001 through the series' cancellation in 2012.

Kristen also appeared as Madeline Thompson on NBC's Another World.

Kristen's return engagement will run from February 25 through February 28.
