Six years to the day that Days of our Lives announced that it had signed Shirley Jones to a short-term role on the NBC comes words that General Hospital has also snagged thge Oscar Winning actress.
General Hospital has confirmed that Jones, who is best known from the classic television show The Partridge Family, will guest-star on GH in February. No additional details are yet available.
A Twitter post from William de Vry (Julian Jerome) may have let the cat out of the bag a little earlier than the show would have wanted. In the post directed to William Shatner, deVry wrote, "We have Shirley Jones coming onto General Hospital tomorrow. We r still hoping ur agent will let you join us for a few eps."
Jones' acting portfolio is extensive. She started off on Broadway in South Pacific and quickly transitioned to the silver screen. Her first starring role was the 1955 production of Oklahoma. The highlight of her accomplished career came just six years later: an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Elmer Gantry. Despite that high honor, she may forever be best known to the masses as Shirley Partridge on the 1970s television series, The Partridge Family.
During her time on Days of our Lives in 2008, Jones remarked that soaps are "hard work. I didn't want to do it, but they gave me more money than" could be turned down.
For the short-term DAYS role, Jones was required to speak with an Irish brogue. To make sure she sounds authentic, Jones worked with prominent voice coach Robert Easton to perfect the accent.
A first airdate has yet to be announced, nor has a character name been given. Also unclear is whether or not William Shatner will be beamed aboard for another unnamed role.
