Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo will, as previously reported, exit General Hospital in the near future. The actress reprised the role of Brenda in 2010, a role she originated in 1992.
As first reported by Soap Central in March, Emmy winner Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo (Brenda Barrett) will exit General Hospital when her contract with the show expires.
"Thank you GH for a great year. Best cast and crew in the world and in my heart forever," Marcil posted on her Twitter page.
Marcil's return in 2010 ended seven years of rumors about her relationship with the show. During that time, magazine headlines touted her imminent return, and fans took to message boards to make it clear that they wanted Brenda back in Port Charles. However, once fans received their wish, many were left wanting more from Brenda's return.

There was never any doubt in Marcil's mind, though, that she's only be sticking around for a short time.
"I was always 'coming for a visit,'" Marcil told Soaps In Depth. "I never described it as anything other than a visit. And that's what it is. I always hate leaving."
Earlier this year, Marcil hinted during a televised interview that her time on General Hospital was "almost done." Despite the fact that she's leaving, Marcil is already thinking about her next General Hospital return.
"I'll come back and visit for the rest of my life," Marcil offered with a smile.
Marcil will tape her final scenes on June 9, but a final airdate for Marcil was not immediately announced. The actress has promised fans "a twist" in her exit story.
Since our initial post, Soap Central has learned that Marcil will last air on July 21.
