It's been only about two months since Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) returned to General Hospital, but the actor has already decided to leave the show.
As previously reported by Soap Central, Burton had always planned to take leave from General Hospital to work on a pilot for the fall television season. Apparently, that series fell by the wayside, but Burton did land a role in a major motion picture.
Burton will appear in a psychological thriller called, The Castle. Through his work in this film, Burton will be flanked on-screen by Robert and James Gandolfini of The Sopranos.
Burton has already finished taping his final scenes at General Hospital. According to set-side sources, he exited the studio for the last time on March 9th. Since Burton was expected to leave in March to film his pilot, his exit was already worked into the show's scripts. But because the role in The Castle came up earlier than expected, Burton and others rushed to pre-tape some scenes that would have ordinarily been filmed later in the month.
Burton's final airdate will be April 23rd. The role will not be recast.
