General Hospital's Réal Andrews (Marcus Taggert) exits the canvas, thanks viewers for their support during his "great run" on the ABC soap opera.

General Hospital fans were ecstatic to finally have Réal Andrews back in Port Charles as Marcus Taggert, so the character's death during the March 2 episode was a total surprise. As fans began wondering if the longtime detective had really kicked the bucket, Andrews took to social media with his goodbye to the ABC soap opera.

"RIP Taggert. Thanks, everyone, for all your support. I appreciate you all," he posted. "It was a great run and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity. Although I appreciate your support more than you know, I am great. God's got me."

In a series of photos attached to the Instagram post, the actor shared a few screenshots from his death episode and some photos of his dog, Diamond, along with the joke, "It's Diamond I am worried about. When she heard the news about her Daddy being dead, she went into a depression so pray for her, please."

Andrews began playing troubled-kid-turned-policeman Taggert back in 1997 and appeared on occasion until 2003. He made a big return to GH in January of this year with lots of major connections to the canvas, including heavy involvement in the show's current mob war started by Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober), having a history with Jordan (Briana Nicole Henry), and the big reveal that he's the father of Trina Robinson (Sydney Mikayla). With all the signs of a long-term stint in place, fans were understandably shocked when the powers that be decided to kill him off just over a month after he returned to the canvas.

Though Andrews has shared an official goodbye online -- even giving shout-outs to costars like Mikayla, Henry, Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos), Steve Burton (Jason Morgan), Donnell Turner (Curtis Ashford), Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth Webber-Baldwin), Roger Howarth (Franco Baldwin), Max Gail (Mike Corbin), and Genie Francis (Laura Webber) -- some fans believe that Taggert's death is a fake, which leaves him free to take Cyrus by surprise and end the mob war once and for all. So, is his death is really a covert police operation, or have fans actually seen the last of Taggert? Let us know what you think in the Comments section below!

How do you feel about the death of Marcus Taggert? Do you think it's a big fake out, or do you think the character really became one of Cyrus' victims?
