Michael Easton: 'Real fire' will come from OLTL character flap

Michael Easton has opened up about the dispute that resulted in him having to take on a new alter ego on General Hospital. The actor is also unveiling his newest graphic novel.

In a new interview with TVGuide's Michael Logan, Easton broke his silence about the ongoing dispute between ABC and Prospect Park that effectively forced him out of the role of John McBain. The actor also dismissed claims that he was unwilling to reprise John McBain in the online version of One Life to Live.

"It feels really terrible to be in the middle because the people on OLTL are my friends," Easton stated. "I would love to have worked with them again. It was really hard to have it go down that way. And to not be able to support them and go along on their ride to the Internet made me kind of sad."

Easton added that he thinks "people are being too hard on ABC. They kept OLTL going for over 40 years."

Easton also weighed in on the impact of having three former One Life to Live actors (Easton, along with Kristen Alderson and Roger Howarth) return to GH in new roles and the ensuing storylines.

"It wasn't my first choice, that's for sure," Easton said of Silas. "The three of us were ripped out of our comfort zone and our characters and all their relationships were suddenly out the window. [...] I'm really encouraged by what's coming up. Some real fire will come out of the storytelling."

Easton also gave soap fans a glimpse of a side of him that they might not have seen before: he's the author of graphic novels (formerly known as comic books), including The Green Woman and the Soul Stealer trilogy. He'll be in San Diego for Comic Con from July 18 to July 20 to promote his latest, Credence.

Easton created the role of John McBain on One Life to Live on October 1, 2003. His character was transferred over to General Hospital on March 13, 2012. He made his first appearance as Silas on May 13, 2013.
