Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith celebrated its 20th anniversary with a re-release, and it was massive as it opened in 2,800 theaters. With that, it added $52 million to its tally, taking the lifetime earnings to $902 million. Sadly, the film had to wait for that $1 billion mark until the next time it was re-released.

The prequel trilogy concludes with the film, preceded by Attack of the Clones (2002) and The Phantom Menace (1999). The latter remains the only one crossing the $1 billion mark in it, while the former earned $653 million at the box office. All in all, the prequel trilogy has earned $2.5 billion to date.

We first got to see Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) becoming the infamous Darth Vader after his faith in the Jedi diminished. The Supreme Chancellor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid), too, is revealed to be a Sith Lord who is responsible for the Clone Wars.

We have nine films in the primary storyline, beginning in 1977 with A New Hope, with a couple of standalone films including Rogue One (2016) and Solo (2018). As of this writing, Star Wars stands as the fourth-highest-grossing media franchise, having earned $46.7 billion, though it includes video games, home video, merchandise, and more.

Feature films contribute around $10 billion to it. We have mentioned the breakdown below.

Standalone films - $1.4 billion

Five more films are already in the works, with two of them, The Mandalorian and Grogu and Star Wars: Starfighter, scheduled for 2026 and 2027, respectively. There's a James Mangold-directed Dawn of the Jedi film, which will explore the origins of the Force.

While The Phantom Menace might have performed the best commercially, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith remains the best film in the trilogy. As of this writing, the film currently holds 79% critics' approval at Rotten Tomatoes. The other two, The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, hold 54% and 61%, respectively.

However, all the films have an A-rating at CinemaScore, and Solo: A Star Wars Story holds the same rating there. The recent box office explosion, Thunderbolts, which garnered $162 million globally on its opening, met with an A- too.

If we put Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith with all the films in the franchise to compare here, then it sits at number seven on Rotten Tomatoes. A New Hope holds the crown here with a 94% score. It is followed by The Empire Strikes Back and The Force Awakens, both having 93% at the moment.
