Emmy Predictions

LISA SVENSON

Unlike in previous years when Lisa would catch a glimpse of a soap in someone's home or in a waiting room (albeit not enough to base any predictions on), she did not even see snippets of any soaps this year. Her predictions are based solely on her overall feelings about the characters based on reading recaps, not anything related to their performances. She did not watch any of the reels so as not to confuse her predictions with facts. Her predictions are based on her feelings, not any evidence of what the voting body might choose.

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES

Days of our Lives

For some reason, I've enjoyed reading about DAYS this year more than about the other soaps. It seems more dramatic, with serial killers and major characters' deaths and all. It was very dramatic.

Justin Hartley
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR
Justin Hartley
Adam Newman

As far as reading about characters goes, I like the changes in Adam this time around, and I know that some of the way characters change is based on the nuances of the actor who is in the role. He feels less malicious and more victim in this version (at least in the recaps I read), and not victim as in everyone is being mean to him now, but victim in that his actions are ways to protect himself from being hurt again.

Kassie DePaiva
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS
Kassie DePaiva
Eve Donovan

I like the upbeat attitude the actress brings to the world of soaps. (I want them to continue; I don't not watch soaps because I hate them; I don't even own a television so it's not like I'm watching anything.) I would be fine with Mary Beth Evans winning, also. I think these are actresses who have put in their time and have done good quality work for a long time (otherwise, they wouldn't still be employed and beloved in the soap world), so they deserve to be rewarded. However, I think Kassie was given difficult material, and she was written out of the show when she clearly had more work she could have done (and maybe she'll return from that trip to New York and cause trouble again in the not-so-distant future).

Bryton James
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR
Bryton James
Devon Winters

I have no particular reason for choosing this actor. I was not wowed by the stories any of these characters had this year, but his was by far the strangest. Having your semi-dad hide away your wife, who should not be alive due to the quality of amateur medical care she received and the probably dank conditions in which she was housed before a doctor got involved, was definitely strange. Worrying about his wife while being considered a suspect in her "murder" was strange, and that's what got him my pick (I'm not sure any of this was in his reel, but I don't pretend to look at those).

Linsey Godfrey
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Linsey Godfrey
Anna Devane

I picked Linsey because I admire her for working through what was probably a fair amount of pain when she returned from her accident (and let's be real, being hit while walking on a sidewalk is a horrible accident -- not that any accident is good, of course). That she posted videos of her first steps makes her all the more endearing. She's battled a lot to return to work, and I admire and respect that. Also, I think her character had some powerful material this year.

Nicolas Bechtel
OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTOR

Nicolas Bechtel
Spencer Cassadine

I picked him because he's youngest. At moments, I don't much care for the character, but then I realize that with as little time as his father spends with him (and without a mother), his behavior might just be a cry for attention, or at the very least, it shows dad could be teaching him a thing or two about things.

Brooklyn Rae Silzer
OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTRESS

Brooklyn Rae Silzer
Emma Drake

I chose her because she's adorable. That's the whole reason. There was nothing I could think of that was bad about the character, either. When I read about her, it mostly feels like she is a good and cute kid. It's nice when there's a child actor who isn't some weird demonic, evil, possessed monster.

Dee Wallace
OUTSTANDING GUEST PERFORMER

Dee Wallace
Patricia Spencer

I'm surprised I picked so many General Hospital characters because I don't remember much about the show this past year. I think Dee was given an interesting role, and it really was a guest appearance (she's dead; she won't be back). Some of the others (like the people who play the Avants on The Bold and the Beautiful) feel like regular cast members, so I don't view them as guests anymore.
