Salem is about to get some serious Latin machismo with the reentrance of Dario, a member of the Hernandez clan that will now be played by daytime star Jordi Vilasuso, starting this Friday, February 19.
The former All My Children and Guiding Light star (ex-Griffin Castillo and ex-Tony Santos, respectively) revealed to Soap Opera Digest that he decided to take on the character, last played by Francisco San Martin in 2011, after realizing what a smart cookie the fictional alter ego is -- despite having a tendency to flare up on a frequent basis.
In addition to being intelligent, says Vilasuso, "Dario is also very passionate and outspoken. He has a short fuse. I was so ready and wanting to play this guy. When the meeting [with executive producer Ken Corday, co-executive producer Albert Alaar and co-head writer Josh Griffith] ended, they said, 'Okay, great!' It just worked out beautifully. It was probably the easiest, greatest way to get a role in our TV landscape that I've ever dealt with."
As for what fans can expect from Vilasuso's first scenes, the actor teases they take place alongside Eric Martsolf, whose character, Brady Black, has been on the hunt for Marie Wilson's new alter ego, Summer. "Brady is in California and he spots Dario working as a bartender," Vilasuso reveals, adding that it was a great experience reuniting with both Martsolf, whom he met at the Daytime Emmys several years ago, and Vincent Irizarry (Deimos), whom he worked with on All My Children. "I'm so happy that Vincent is on the show. I have a lot of respect for him as a person and as an actor."
In addition to his soap opera roles, Vilasuso has appeared on The Glades and Graceland. He also starred in the Hulu series South Beach, alongside Stephanie MacInnes Wood (Steffy Forrester, The Bold and the Beautiful).
