Days of our Lives' Melissa Archer (Serena Mason; ex-Natalie Buchanan, One Life to Live) is set to exit Salem next week, and she's sharing some surprising details about how she was let go from the NBC soap.
"I completely understood and somewhere, expected it," the actress told Soap Opera Digest. "It was a very positive experience. I joke about it like, 'Getting fired, it didn't really feel like it.' It was the most pleasant 'getting fired' conversation I've ever had. There was laughter. It was great, actually."
Archer took on the role of Serena in December of last year, and much to fans' dismay, her storyline wasn't strong enough to hold viewers' attention. News of her upcoming departure from the soap broke earlier this spring.
In addition to her DAYS role, the actress was known as OLTL's Natalie, a role she played from 2001 to 2013. Fans can also catch Archer in a funny and embarrassing viral video here.
Are you sad to see Archer depart from Salem? Do you blame the actress or the writing -- or both -- for what some fans have described as Serena's "lackluster" existence? Share your thoughts in the Comments section below, on our message boards, or by submitting Feedback.
