Brief Character History

Thorne Forrester is the youngest son of Eric and Stephanie Forrester. Thorne was raised in Beverly Hills with his siblings, Ridge, Kristen, and Felicia Forrester. Thorne had a crush on Caroline Spencer, even though she was engaged to Ridge. When Caroline dumped Ridge for having a one-night stand before their wedding, Thorne befriended Caroline, and the friendship turned to romance. But Thorne knew Caroline still loved Ridge, so he convinced Ridge's new girlfriend, Brooke Logan, to hide a letter in which Ridge professed his devotion to Caroline. Thorne and Caroline married soon after, although Caroline was furious when she learned of Thorne's part in hiding the letter.

Thorne became frustrated by Caroline's hesitancy to be intimate with him; while recovering from an appendectomy, Thorne overheard Eric and Stephanie discussing a prank in which Ridge had slipped into a drunken Caroline's bed. Hopped up on alcohol and painkillers, Thorne reacted to the news of Caroline mistakenly making love to Ridge by grabbing Stephanie's gun and shooting Ridge in the head. Thorne passed out; when he woke up, he was told that Stephanie had shot Ridge, thinking he was a prowler.

Thorne agreed to marriage counseling with Caroline, who wanted to reunite with Ridge; Thorne soon granted her a divorce. Before long, Thorne learned not only about Ridge's prank, but that he himself had shot Ridge, with Stephanie wiping Thorne's fingerprints from the gun and claiming responsibility. Thorne cut both Ridge and Caroline out of his life and turned his attentions toward Brooke's sister, Donna Logan.

Thorne met burn victim Deveney Dickson and offered to get her restorative plastic surgery. One night, finding himself under the influence, Thorne was handed a gun by Deveney and told to shoot Ridge. After Ridge talked Thorne down, he explained that Deveney was really an actress hired to impersonate their long-lost comatose sister Angela and bilk Stephanie out of money intended to treat her; "Angela"ť had been burned in a car wreck trying to escape and hoped to avenge herself by having Thorne shoot Ridge, even though she had fallen for Thorne. "Angela"ť got away with the money Thorne had given her for the surgery and was never heard from again.

Thorne met Macy Alexander when her mother, Sally Spectra, tried to play matchmaker by locking Macy and Ridge in a room on the Queen Mary during a fashion show. Thorne briefly dated Macy and Donna at the same time, but ultimately chose Macy. The Forresters and Spectras were fashion rivals, and neither family approved of Thorne and Macy's relationship; Thorne and Macy married anyway, but separated when the strain of the families' battle became too much.

During the separation, Thorne got close to Karen Spencer, Caroline's long-lost identical twin sister. Just as Thorne asked Karen to move in with him, Macy asked for a reconciliation, and the three ended up living under the same roof. Macy and Karen got into a food fight over Thorne, who couldn't choose between them. Thorne finally decided on Macy, but misinterpreted Macy hugging former suitor Jake MacLaine, prompting Thorne to settle for Karen. Thorne and Macy's attempts at communication were thwarted by Karen and her father, Bill Spencer, Sr.

Karen left Thorne after she realized that Thorne still loved Macy, who developed a drinking problem. Thorne found Macy passed out in an alley, after which they cleared up their misunderstandings and reconciled. But one night Thorne came home and caught Spectra designer Anthony Armando putting a drunken Macy to bed; Thorne and Macy never knew that Eric's new wife Sheila Carter, of whom Thorne disapproved, had spiked Macy's orange juice. Thorne left Macy again and punched Ridge to replace him on an overseas trip with Brooke, who was interfering with Ridge's marriage to Taylor Hayes.

Thorne returned for Taylor's funeral, and re-established a friendship with Macy, though he briefly dated Forrester model Ivana Vanderveld. Thorne and Macy began singing together and were signed by Decadent Records, making Ivana jealous when they performed in Rotterdam, Holland. Macy collapsed after the show and was diagnosed with throat cancer; Thorne gave up singing and proposed to Macy after she recovered from surgery. Discovering that Ivana had written Macy a nasty fan letter, Thorne confronted Ivana, who was murdered with Thorne's letter opener. Thorne was arrested during his wedding to Macy, though he soon learned that Anthony had stationery like Ivana's. Playing a hunch, Thorne broke out of jail and extracted a confession from Anthony, who wanted Macy for himself and killed Ivana to frame Thorne. Though Sally was shot as Macy failed to get Anthony's confession on tape, Anthony was apprehended, and Thorne and Macy finally married.

Thorne performed Grease on Broadway for four months. Upon his return, Thorne befriended Claudia Cortez, who had come to the U.S. for political asylum but was in the country illegally. Thorne gave Claudia a job at Forrester; when Macy caught Claudia giving Thorne a massage, Macy reported Claudia to immigration, which drove a wedge between Macy and Thorne. Soon, Thorne began to see back-from-the-dead Taylor in a new light. After Macy divorced Thorne, Claudia shied away from making love to Thorne when she realized the depth of his feelings for Taylor.

Thorne saved Taylor, who was despondent over Ridge and drunkenly set her nightgown on fire with a lantern. Thorne stood by Taylor as she recovered from her burns. While Ridge was in jail for shooting Grant Chambers, Thorne convinced Taylor to lie that Ridge's baby was Thorne's and even proposed to Taylor in Hawaii. But soon Taylor wanted to tell Ridge the truth, so Thorne again worked with Brooke to prevent it; Thorne even sedated Taylor with a drugged protein shake when Ridge came to visit. Finally, Thorne relented and agreed to help Taylor stop Ridge and Brooke's wedding, but Taylor went into labor in Thorne's car, forcing Thorne to deliver baby Thomas himself.

Thorne was left in the cold when Ridge found out he was Thomas' father and took Taylor back, while Macy moved on with Grant. Thorne moved in next door, and Macy was jealous when she saw her best friend, Darla Einstein, making a move on Thorne. Grant was diagnosed with untreatable testicular cancer and wanted Thorne to fulfill Macy's desire for a family. Thorne shocked Macy by kissing her as Grant lay dying in his hospital bed. After Grant died, Thorne was disappointed when Macy would only accept Thorne's friendship. Thorne, who had quit Forrester Creations over Stephanie's preferential treatment of Ridge, stepped in and saved Spectra Fashions from bankruptcy.

Thorne made a romantic connection with Brooke; after Macy spied Brooke under Thorne's bed and told Stephanie, Thorne had to stop his mother from terrorizing Brooke at the Big Bear cabin. Thorne and Brooke kept their relationship a secret after Stephanie had a stroke and didn't remember finding them together. To throw a suspicious Stephanie off the scent, Thorne reconciled with Macy and narrowly avoided a surprise wedding Stephanie had arranged. In Venice, Italy, Thorne caught Brooke kissing Ridge, unaware that Ridge, Taylor, and Eric had manipulated the situation to separate Thorne from Brooke. Thorne followed Macy to Amsterdam and married her, though he still thought of Brooke.

When Thorne wanted a divorce, Macy asked him for a last dance at the Big Bear cabin. Thorne then came upon Macy's burning car -- Macy had tried to drive away from a confrontation with Brooke, but crashed when Brooke jumped in the car with her. Thorne saved Brooke but was thrown back by a violent explosion, which killed Macy. At Macy's funeral, Sally exposed Thorne's continuing relationship with Brooke, causing Stephanie to have another stroke. Stephanie forced Thorne to choose between Brooke and his family, so Thorne chose Brooke, and Stephanie disowned him.

Thorne faced further opposition from Brooke's children, Rick and Bridget Forrester, and Macy's half-sister, Kimberly Fairchild. Kimberly kissed Thorne backstage at a fashion show, and Bridget raised the curtain so the public would see. Brooke broke things off, and Kimberly took advantage of an inebriated Thorne by lying that they'd had sex. Kimberly also tried to kill Brooke by rigging a heavy photographer's light to fall on her, almost hitting Thorne instead. Thorne and Brooke reconciled and married at the Forrester mansion, even getting last-minute support from the family. But Thorne's happiness was short-lived when he overheard Brooke admitting that Ridge would always be her soul mate; Thorne had a vision of Macy and asked Brooke for an annulment. Later, Thorne shared a few kisses with grief counselor Tricia Quick.

In Portofino, Italy for a fashion showdown, Thorne chased Lena, a woman that reminded him of Macy. But "Lena" really was Macy: Macy's father, Adam Alexander, had saved Macy before her car exploded, though his connections to the mob made it necessary to take Macy on the run. Thorne was dismayed when Macy insisted on staying in Italy and marrying Lorenzo Barelli. But Sally had a heart attack, so Macy came home, where Thorne informed Macy that her marriage to Lorenzo was invalid because she had never signed Thorne's divorce papers. Thorne and Macy reconciled, but he misread Macy's goodbye to Lorenzo, got drunk, and slept with Darla, thinking she was Macy.

Thorne squared things with Macy, but Darla was pregnant with Thorne's child. After Macy's returning cancer required her to have a hysterectomy, Thorne asked Darla to let him and Macy raise Darla's child. But Thorne lost Macy after she found out about his one-nighter with Darla. Thorne gratefully accepted Macy's eventual forgiveness, but watched in horror as a chandelier crashed down on her as she headlined a new club. After Sally pulled the plug on the comatose Macy, Thorne and Darla named their child Alexandria in Macy's memory, then got married.

Thorne was awarded the presidency of Forrester Creations, but faced constant challenges from Ridge, who insulted Darla to the point Thorne punched Ridge. Thorne forgave Darla for accidentally handing Sally some photos from Forrester's upcoming Ingenue line, but when Ridge banned Darla from the building, Thorne and Ridge demanded that Eric decide who should leave. After Eric sided with Ridge, the embittered Thorne raged that he was the only true Forrester son, as it had been revealed that Massimo Marone was really Ridge's father; Thorne threw a chair through a window and left in disgust.

Thorne became acting president of Spectra and used his client list from Forrester to gain support, even stealing Forrester designs to use in a Spectra fashion show. Soon Thorne had original couture created by Spectra mainstay Clarke Garrison, former designer Amber Moore, and Thorne's sister, Felicia Forrester, challenging Forrester to a fashion showdown; Thorne lost the competition but gained Eric's respect. Thorne sold his Forrester shares and invested in Spectra, losing his money when Spectra failed to win a new fashion showdown featuring Thomas' designs. But when Stephanie discovered she was the sole owner of Forrester, she offered Thorne his presidency back. Sally lied that she was going on a cruise when she was really moving to a retirement home, so Thorne and Darla moved Sally in with them and gave Sally a job at Forrester, since Spectra was now owned by Marone Industries.

Thorne was devastated when Darla left to help Taylor's daughter, Phoebe Forrester, change a tire on a foggy night and died falling into the path of an oncoming car. Thorne needed Taylor's psychiatric expertise to explain things to Alexandria, and soon Thorne and Taylor resumed their romantic relationship. However, when Thorne proposed to Taylor, she answered with a confession: she had driven drunk while also coming to help Phoebe and had been the one to hit Darla. Thorne felt betrayed by Taylor, Stephanie, and Phoebe for keeping the truth about Darla's death from him, but during Taylor's trial, Thorne encouraged Taylor to plead not guilty, and she was released.

Thorne wanted to marry Taylor, but became alarmed when Alexandria blacked out Taylor's pictures with a crayon and shredded Taylor's wedding dress. Despondent from calling off his engagement, Thorne drunkenly made love to Donna, seeing Darla's face. Thorne decided to make Donna his bride until her sister, Katie Logan, took Thorne aside and revealed that Donna didn't love Thorne and was only trying to make Stephanie pay for hurting Brooke. Thorne cancelled the ceremony and briefly bonded with Katie, though no romance developed.

Nick Marone temporarily took control of Forrester Creations, during which time Thorne and Ridge pulled together to help Eric create a new company, Forrester Originals. Thorne disapproved of Eric's relationship with Donna and helped Felicia lock Donna in the Forrester steam room to keep her from hitting the runway; Thorne also objected when Eric gave Donna a position in the company. Thorne found himself fired when Eric lapsed into a coma and Donna lowered the boom on Thorne and his siblings. Thorne knew that Donna was spending time with Owen Knight, so when Eric recovered, Thorne hired Donna and Owen lookalikes to kiss for a hidden camera so Eric would divorce Donna. Thorne's scheme failed.

Thorne was suspected of giving Forrester designs to Jackie M after he made noise about Rick and Ridge getting too much attention at Forrester, but the real culprit was Rick. Thorne expected to take the president position when Rick left the company, but felt even more unappreciated when Brooke made Rick president instead. Thorne and Felicia, deeming Forrester overrun with Logans, resigned when Brooke, Donna, and Katie became models for the Royalty line.

Thorne eventually returned, but soon Bill Spencer, Jr. took control of Forrester and installed his new wife, Katie, as CEO. Katie offered Thorne the vice presidency, but Thorne refused, and Donna was given the position. Thorne joined his family in creating the ugly Dare line in an unsuccessful attempt to sabotage Bill. Thorne was upset when his niece, Steffy Forrester, got the company back from Bill and divided the stock between Ridge, Eric, Stephanie, and Taylor, while Thorne received none.

Thorne submitted to a DNA test after he realized that a long-ago fling with Kelly Cooper may have produced newcomer Liam Cooper; it turned out Bill was Liam's father. Thorne wondered if his unlucky-in-love nephew Thomas might be gay; when it turned out Stephanie had put Thomas up to lying about sleeping with Brooke to gain Stephanie's 25% share in Forrester and split Ridge and Brooke, Thorne grumbled that he was all right being "banished"ť to the basement with no stock because he "didn't want to have to spend that much time around you people." Thorne later pointed out to Taylor that she and her children now controlled 55% of Forrester since Stephanie had made Taylor the trustee of Thomas' stock; Thorne reignited his romance with Taylor and made a power play at Forrester, but lost Taylor's support when she realized a takeover would pit her children against their father.

Thorne and Taylor's continuing romance happened primarily off-screen; Thorne was delighted when Taylor revealed she was finally over Ridge, but months later Taylor appeared solo and stated she and Thorne had broken up. When Stephanie, who had been battling cancer, received a terminal diagnosis, Thorne tearfully mended fences with his mother after having always felt she'd played favorites with Ridge. After Stephanie died and named Eric permanent CEO, Rick and Thomas jockeyed for the president position, which Thorne turned down, feeling he was satisfied in Shipping. Thorne gave Taylor and Eric his blessing when they began pursuing a relationship.

Thorne changed his mind about the presidency when sales slipped under Rick's leadership and worked with Thomas to talk Eric out of the CEO chair, but Eric affirmed Rick's position after a successful showing, forcing Thorne to work with Rick for the good of the company. Later, when a grown-up Aly returned from college, Thorne put her to work at Forrester and moved them into the mansion after selling the beach house where Thorne had raised Aly. Soon Thorne accepted a position running Forrester International in Paris, where a visiting Aly had an intensely negative reaction to Wyatt Fuller, the boyfriend of Brooke's daughter, Hope Logan. Thorne knew that Aly had issues from being bullied in school, but also that his daughter had never recovered from Darla's death; it disturbed Thorne to learn that Aly had made a shrine to Hope and was having conversations with the deceased Darla, including directives to stop Thorne's wedding to Taylor years before.

Thorne and Taylor reunited, but when Aly found out and threatened Taylor with an axe, Thorne broke off his engagement at Aly's request. Thorne had Aly's boyfriend, Oliver Jones, to thank when Aly resolved things with Taylor and gave Thorne and Taylor her approval to get married. Thorne returned to Paris with Taylor, then traveled to Abu Dhabi, where Ridge had gone missing after falling out of a helicopter and into the Persian Gulf. Once Ridge was located, Thorne accompanied his brother home and told Aly he would stick around Los Angeles a while. Later, Thorne and Taylor again broke up off-screen.

Thorne came home for a fashion show and learned that Aly had regressed, becoming particularly vocal about Ridge's California Freedom line, which featured lingerie and transgender models. Knowing that Aly created perfect worlds in her head and railed against anything that ran contrary, Thorne opted to get Aly help in Paris -- but before he could, Aly died in a violent confrontation with Steffy. The inconsolable Thorne cried in Eric and Brooke's arms, but Thorne was angry when Ridge referred to Aly's mental illness in his eulogy. Thorne never got the answers he demanded from Steffy for her involvement; Thorne went back to Paris and was later told by the Los Angeles police that the investigation into Aly's death had been closed.
