Bridget watches Deacon sleep after having spent the night in his hospital room. She discusses having to tell Deacon that he may permanently paralyzed with Deacon's doctor, Mark, and they both agree that he'll have to be told as soon as he wakes up.

Oscar shows up at the hospital and finds Bridget outside of Deacon's room. He tells her that he read about the shooting in the newspaper. Bridget is infuriated that the press has already gotten a hold of the story. Oscar asks her what she had been doing at Deacon Sharpe's house. She tells him what happened, but leaves out any mention of the kiss that Eric had walked in on. Crying, Bridget tells Oscar that it's because of her that Deacon may never walk again.

At the Forrester offices, the family lawyer, Jonathon, meets with Eric, Thorne, and Rick about the escalating press coverage of the story. Eric angrily dismisses that he has done anything wrong and that he and Deacon had been destined for a showdown. Jonathon begs Eric never to say anything like that in public, pointing out that things are not looking good for Eric, especially with the past animosity and the recent business dealings between the two men. He points out that Deacon could decide not to back up Eric's story. Before Bridget has a chance to tell Deacon about his condition, Little D slips away from Stephanie, who is watching over him, and runs into Deacons room. Deacon explains to his son that he will be good as new in no time and that he'll still be able to coach his soccer team like he promised. Little D gets excited and jumps on Deacon's legs.

Suddenly Deacon becomes aware that he has no feeling in his legs and a look of shock comes over him. Stephanie takes the child out of the room and Deacon demands that Bridget tell him what is going on. Bridget finally tells Deacon that the bullet caused damage to his spinal cord and that he may be paralyzed for life. They both break down into tears, Bridget sobbing on Deacon's chest.

Meagan enters Eric's office and tells Eric, Jonathon, Thorne, and Rick that the press is gathering outside the building. Shortly after, she returns and this time the police follow her in. Eric is place under arrest for the attempted murder of Deacon Sharpe. Eric is vocal in protest and Jonathon advises him once again not to say anything. Eric asks Thorne to help protect the family from the press. Eric is led out in handcuffs only to encounter the waiting press and photographers, who have made their way into the lobby.

At home, Stephanie told Samantha that Brooke was not thinking when she slept with Nick. Stephanie asked Samantha to stand by Ridge if Nick turns out to be the father of Brooke's child. Stephanie realized that Samantha is still in love with Ridge after all these years. Stephanie appealed to Samantha to advise Ridge that he is married to the wrong person-Brooke.

At the Café Rouse, Brooke informed Nick that Ridge has forgiven her. She tried to convince Nick to be a part of their lives. She tried to make him understand that Ridge is his brother and he will forgive him. Nick wanted no part of what Brooke wanted. Jackie walked in to witness Brooke embracing Nick.

At Marone Industries, Jackie met with Ridge. He thought it was about business. Jackie explained that she wanted to know what will happen if Nick is the father of Brooke's child. Ridge denied that Nick could be the father of Brooke's child. Jackie asked Ridge to step aside and allow Nick to raise the child if it is his. Ridge believed that the child would be just as happy with him and Brooke.

Samantha went to Ridge's office as Stephanie requested. When she arrived she told Ridge she could not tell him why she was there. When Ridge asked her about ideas for a nursery, she became upset and let Ridge know about her feelings. Samantha told Ridge that she thought what happened between Nick and Brooke was wrong. She reiterated what Stephanie had said about Brooke being the wrong woman for Ridge.

At Stephanie's, Eric hopes that the lawyers can convince the jury that Deacon's gunshot wound was an accident. Eric speculates that Bridget could convince Deacon to sign an affidavit saying it was an accident. Bridget enters, having overheard their conversation. She is upset that Eric is only worried about himself while Deacon is facing more surgery, physical therapy, and possible never walking again. Stephanie tells Bridget that she is concerned about Bridget's feelings for Deacon. Bridget defends Deacon, reminding them of how hard Deacon has worked to turn his life around. She storms out.

Oz comes to see Deacon at the hospital. Deacon is down, wanting to give up. Oz tries to convince him to be a fighter. He reminds Deacon that Little Eric needs him. He wants Deacon to remember all the good parts of his life. Deacon thinks about Bridget and decides he does have something to live for. Oz leaves. Bridget enters. Deacon tells her that he is going to walk out of the hospital when he leaves. Bridget tells him that she believes in him. Deacon tells her not to pity him because it is not her fault. Bridget kisses him. Oz walks in and interrupts.

Massimo wishes his sons had both picked good women to love instead of Brooke. Jacquie tries to defend Brooke, saying that Brooke reminds her of herself. She gently reminds Massimo that whoever is the father of Brooke's baby, the baby will still be Massimo's grandchild. Massimo accuses Brooke of having Ridge, Nick and Jacquie all twisted around her finger. Jacquie wishes Brooke were married to Nick and is afraid that Brooke will miss out on the real love of her life, just as Jacquie did. Massimo warns Jacquie not to put ideas into Nick's head, but Jacquie is sure that Nick will be the father of Brooke's baby.

Stephanie and Ridge talk. Stephanie tells Ridge that Eric is settled down for the night in the guesthouse where the media won't bother him. She tells Ridge that Ridge must face what's happening in his life. Ridge asks her to support his marriage and stop bashing Brooke. He insists that Brooke was grieving and Nick took advantage of her. Ridge is sure the baby is his and asks his mother to go back to the good feelings she had for Brooke. He asks her to forgive Brooke. Stephanie agrees by saying that she'll do anything for Ridge.

Nick tells Massimo that what he and Brooke had wasn't an affair. Nick doesn't like the comments Massimo is making about the woman who could be the mother of his child. Massimo can tell that Nick is still in love with Brooke. Nick finally admits that he'd be thrilled to have a child with Brooke, but because of what it means to Brooke, he hopes Ridge is the father of her baby. Sally is shocked that Stephanie seems to be willing to overlook Brooke cheating on Ridge. Stephanie insists that there's nothing she can do about it, and she doesn't want her bitterness to drive a wedge between her family and her again. Sally thinks Stephanie needs to get Brooke out of Ridge's life. She tells herself that if Stephanie can't get rid of Brooke, Sally will do it for her. Oscar asks Bridget what he walked in on. He points out that Deacon needs support, not pity. Oscar admits to Bridget that he's crazy about her, and he doesn't like the idea of sharing her. Deacon realizes that Oscar is angry because he saw Deacon and Bridget kissing. He promises that he'll be out of bed soon to give Oscar a run for his money. Ridge notes that Brooke seems tense, but Brooke insists that she's not worried about tomorrow's test.
