"Definitely the hardest thing I've ever done -- I won't lie -- it hurt a lot!" Tom shared via Twitter.
Zane arrived, weighing in at eight pounds and one ounce. The new mommy revealed that Zane had been born with some fluid in his lungs, and the doctors have been monitoring him. Otherwise, the newborn is strong and healthy, and Tom can't wait to get home to start her new role as a mom -- unlike her on-screen alter ego, Katie, a new mom who literally ran away from her maternal responsibilities.
Katie began suffering from severe postpartum depression after having a near-death experience in the delivery room. Taking to Twitter about the storyline, Tom said she liked the way the writers were telling the story; she just hoped that art wouldn't imitate life when it was her turn at real-life motherhood.
Tom revealed that she'd witnessed her friends go through everything from a little baby blues to full-blown depression. "I expect to have some baby blues. I had a lot of prego happy hormones, so when those are gone, I imagine there might be an emotional letdown," Tom wrote to fans a few days before the birth.
While anxiously awaiting her hospital discharge, she also wrote that her acting experience with the syndrome has at least taught her what to be aware of.
Tom assumed the role of Katie Logan on The Bold and the Beautiful in 2007. Before that, she played One Life to Live's Kelly Cramer from 2003 to 2006. She is perhaps best known for her portrayal of The Young and the Restless' Victoria Newman. Tom played Victoria from 1991 through 2003.
