Garner, who was born and raised with his younger sister, Kaylan, in Versailles, Kentucky, was intent on pursuing a basketball career when an agent discovered him and suggested he try acting. Hesitant at first, Garner went to Los Angeles and fell in love with dramatics. He has since appeared on television in series such as Boy Meets World, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, The Secret World of Alex Mack, Promised Land and Seventh Heaven. He was also featured as the lead in the Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, The Great Mom Swap. His film credits include Disko Boyz and Summer Camp.
Off-screen, Garner is still an avid basketball player and also enjoys skiing, jet skiing and fishing.
