Fans who devoured Showtime's special run of the first two original seasons of the cult classic Twin Peaks over the holiday break will be happy to know they won't have to wait much longer for the network's much-anticipated spin-off of the classic series.
The remake of David Lynch's 1990's crime-drama will premiere on Showtime on Sunday, May 21, at 9PM with a special two-hour episode. Immediately following the premiere, Showtime subscribers will have access to the third and fourth hours of the show on Showtime streaming service and Showtime On Demand. Twin Peaks will then air the third and fourth hours back-to-back on Showtime at 9PM on Sunday, May 28, followed by one-hour episodes the following weeks until the end of the 18-hour limited series.
Both Ray Wise (ex-Ian Ward, The Young and the Restless; ex-Hal Rumley, Days of our Lives) and Ian Buchanan (ex-Duke Lavery, General Hospital; ex-Ian McAllister, DAYS; ex-Dr. James Warwick, The Bold and the Beautiful; ex-Dr. Greg Madden, All My Children) played important roles in the original series, which ran from 1990 to 1991.
The spin-off features Wise as his former character, Leland Palmer, and All My Children and As the World Turns alum Amanda Seyfried (ex-Joni Stafford; ex-Lucinda Montgomery, respectively) as Becky Briggs, the daughter of Bobby Briggs and Shelly Johnson, played by original cast Dana Ashbrook and Madchen Amick, who are reprising their roles from the original series. The story picks up twenty-five years after the inhabitants of a quaint northwestern town were stunned when their homecoming queen, Laura Palmer, was shockingly murdered.
