AMC alum Carrie Genzel dishes on her new film, Hearts of Spring

All My Children alum Carrie Genzel (ex-Skye Chandler) talks with Soap Central about her new project, Hallmark's new romantic comedy, Hearts of Spring.

All My Children alum Carrie Genzel (ex-Skye Chandler) has been one busy actress. Hot on the heels of the news that she's one of the leads in the upcoming comical horror film, They're Watching, comes news that she will also be appearing in Hallmark's upcoming romantic comedy, Hearts of Spring.

Starring Lisa Whelchel (The Facts of Life, Survivor: Philippines) and her real-life daughter, Clancy Cauble, the story follows a blogger mom named Carly who faces an empty nest as her daughter prepares to go away to college. When she turns to her blog for advice, she finds herself on the attack by a reader who has conflicting opinions. While she deals with him online, offline she finally meets a great single dad and sparks start to fly. What she doesn't know is that the confrontational reader and the adorable single dad are, in fact, the same person.

Smack in the middle of that drama comes Tracy Rhodes (Genzel), whom the actress describes as "a recent divorcee [who] has a 5 year old son whom she thinks walks on water but is actually the biggest brat on earth!"

Genzel teases that Tracy falls for Andy (Michael Shanks), but things don't exactly run smooth -- both because he's the same man Carly has fallen for and because of her misbehaving son. "She definitely has a thing for Andy and is always lying in wait for him, trying to hook him as a new husband. She's pushy and determined but Andy... just isn't interested in the least," she shares. "It was so much fun playing this character. She really becomes the comic relief in the movie; she and her bratty son keep popping up and running into Andy, and she works so hard to convince him that her son ‘just loves him,' and tries to weasel in for date, which she eventually does get, and her son pretty much steals all the attention with is bratty behavior."

In addition to falling in love with her character, the daytime alum admits that it was quite special to see the mother/daughter duo of Whelchel and Cauble at work. "It was great to see Lisa and Clancy working together," she says. "They have a really close relationship, and it was fun watching Lisa show Clancy the ropes."

To catch Hearts of Spring, be sure to in to the film's premiere on Hallmark on Saturday, April 9, at 9/8c.

Meanwhile, be sure to check back to Soap Central later this month for an in-depth interview with Genzel about her experience filming the horror flick They're Watching, which took her to Transylvania with the cast and crew, and memories of her time working with AMC's David Canary (ex-Adam Chandler), who passed away in November.
