The exhaustive search for a new JR Chandler is over -- and the actor who landed the role has previously appeared on All My Children.
Ryan Bittle, who appeared in several episodes as Logan in 2010, will take on the role of Dixie Martin and Adam Chandler's son. In a bit of irony (or perhaps fate), All My Children had been using the code name "Logan" during its casting efforts for JR.
News of Bittle's addition to the AMC cast was first reported by Soap Opera Network.
When last seen on-screen, Emmy winner Jacob Young was breathing life into JR. Young joined the show in 2003. While viewers had hoped that Young might reprise the role of JR, the actor is currently under contract at CBS's The Bold and the Beautiful.
Young recently told soapcentral.com that he would have loved to have returned to reprise the role of JR because he'd become very attached to the role.
"Prospect Park did come to me and they said, 'Jacob, obviously you are under contract, but where would we be if we weren't asking you to come over?'" Young explained.
Young also admitted that he'd met with B&B brass to see if there was a way to possibly work on both The Bold and the Beautiful and the All My Children reboot, but "the producer's face pretty much told me his answer." Things could, however, change. "We'll see where we are in six months."
Young also revealed that several of his friends were in the running for the role of JR, and while he declined to mention who those friends were, Young admitted that it would sting less if one of his friends landed the part.
Bittle, meanwhile, joins All My Children with experience in several soapy primetime programs, including Buffy: the Vampire Slayer, Dawson's Creek, 7th Heaven, and Sweet Valley High.
In related news, All My Children has also cast the role of JR's newly aged son, AJ. For more information on that, click here.
